Link Removal Services
-
I have seen a number of these services pop up over the past few months.
My question is, has anyone used them, and did you see any results?
Here is a few example of the ones I have seen appear recently
-
First, let me begin with full disclosure. I am Russ Jones, CTO of Angular (formerly Virante) and creator of Remove'em. I will do my best not to make this an advertisement in any way and answer the question more generally about link removal services.
"My question is, has anyone used them, and did you see any results?"
The answer here is a definite yes. We should probably distinguish between link removal tools and link removal services. There are some tools out there that assist with the link removal process (Remove'em, LinkRisk, LinkDetox, and Remove'em etc.) and other tool/service blends that perform a degree of the link removal process (Remove'em Full Service, RMoov, etc.) and finally some service-only models (LinkDelete, etc.). I will say that I am personally unfamiliar with the service-only models so I will refrain from comment on them out of ignorance, not because they couldn't very well be useful and effective.
The blended services, by and large, appear to be effective. We have researched our competitors and I assure you if they were a sham, we would have made that clear in our marketing material by now
These services tend to provide the following improvements upon DIY...
1. Existing relationships with link purveyors to accelerate link removal.
2. Outreach technology that allows them to better find contact info.
3. Existing databases of contact information tailored to this industry.
4. Knowledge of Google expectations for successful reconsiderationHowever, you don't need any of this to run a successful recovery, the question is just a balance of your time and money. If your lost revenue from lack of rankings, cost of time/services (ie: employees or existing SEO firm running removal campaign) are greater than the costs of these services, they are well worth your consideration.
If you have an specific questions about these services beyond their efficacy, feel free to respond here - I would be more than willing to help.

well if you link at some of the websites that Matthew gave as examples, that is exactly what some of them do. I can for a second see how a website can determine instantaneously what back links needs to be removed.
There is no doubt that there are companies out there who would go through the process with a fine comb and get you the results you need.
You just have to be careful with our choice just like you do with choosing an SEO agency.

Hi Duke
I dont think the process is automated in any way.
It seems to be that they have a team that will do all the hard work for you.
This included analysis of the links, and then reaching out to web masters and asking for the low quality links to be removed.

Why do you think this "They are similar to those companies offering you cheap links. The long effect on your website will be painful."
If someone is being paid to remove links and would provide a report as to what links existed prior and an updated list showing links removed how can that be harmful to your site?
-
If you have time , follow below step to remove your bad links
1-Check your backlinks in Webmaster Tools
2-Look for backlinks from outside your country
3-Look for multiple backlinks from same website
4-Check homepage of site linking to you
5-Check most common anchor text used
6-Check pages your links are on
7-Create spreadsheet of all sites linking to you
8-Check Serps results of sites linking to you
9-Find contact details of sites providing bad backlinks
10-Email them and ask for your links to be removed
Hope it will be helped you.

I would suggest you stay well clear of them. They are similar to those companies offering you cheap links. The long effect on your website will be painful. To be honest, I would question anyone who claims can automate link removal. The process of removing links is a long and painful process which requires human to do it. There are bits of the process that can be automated but the final decision on which links to remove can't.

Thanks for the link Rebekah, much appreciated.
Yeah, I'm a bit like you ,very hesitant with these sort of services.
I did have a look at this tool last week and it does look very good and provided some really useful analysis in to each link.

I haven't used any of these services or tools, but I took a look at what you listed.
Removeem is more of a link management tool that lets you note who you've contacted and what the status is. That seems really useful if you don't want to keep track of all this another way, such as Excel.
I am personally a bit hesitant to use "link removal services" but that's just me.
I also haven't had a chance to watch this yet - bookmarked it for when I have time. It is a webinar from SEOGadget about link removal. SEOGadget really knows their stuff so I am sure you will find some valuable advice in here.

Relaunching a site that has had thousands of posts linking to the same 20 articles. How to properly setup internal linking?
I'm in the process of relaunching a music news site (www.prefixmag.com) that once did quite well in search (over a million monthly search visits in its prime). The site got crushed by Panda, etc. and we stopped updating it. I'm starting to do more research but one thing that I noticed was we have modules in the right rail (desktop) that are found on all of our article pages that point to the same posts. (Edit: Added attachment. The links in the right rail under Editor Picks, Features, News, Media, etc. are found on every page of the site). In other words, we have thousands of posts that all link to the same 20 or so articles. Should we not do this if we're not trying to emphasize these posts in Google? Assuming this is the case, what is the proper way to do internal linking? Do we simply setup a sitemap and link to it? I'm hoping to have the thousands of articles we've published over the years have a chance to rank in search again. Also, we have a number of posts that are thin in content should those pages not be submitted in the sitemap? Thanks in advance! 2KmX0

Should harmful links to your own website be removed?
Upon running a link report on a website, there are often multiple links flagged as bad or suspect that come from a blog that is integrated into the website, which means there are links (set up as article tags) in the site that go to other pages in the same site. They have likely been flagged due to their high frequency. A similar problem is occurring where blogs from a connected site (from an offshoot site of a company that is part of the original) are also tagging their blog posts to link into the original website. Should these links be disavowed? Will these links have an effect on the website if they are disavowed or not?

Link Directories
Hi there, We're very shortly launching a new website so as part of our link strategy we will be linking to directories found with the Link Acquisition Assistant for various keyword searches. I was wondering at what point is it not worthwhile submitting to these directories with regards PA and DA? For example if a directory has a domain authority of 69 but the page authority for the keyword in question is only 1, would it be a waste of time? Cheers

Link values
I have an interesting question, it's more to see other peoples opinions than looking for an exact answer, as I know noone can give that. If you had a good link on harvard.edu.. how many very low quality links on low DA domains that are full of junk, would you need to match the harvard link... if all other factors were equal. I'm gonna go for 500.. I've had great results with a few high DA/trust links. I'm not looking for anyone to give me a definative answer, just curious as to the views of other SEOs 😄

So I ran into a site that was not ranking 4 days ago and has over 2 million links to it on some keywords. My guess is this is a link bomb, but the issue is this is pushing one of my sites down. Does anyone know a good way to over come a bomb like this?
So I ran http://www.riogrande.com/ into this site not that long ago and wanted to see if any other SEO's have an opinion on it. I've seen a Google bomb before, but the amount of links going into this URL is insane. The thing is how does one over come a Google Bomb? Do you just wait to see what Google does or do you just hope to rank under that URL? I should also note that it appears that all the keywords to it are relevant to the sites content. Let me know your thoughts. Thanks

Link Directory
I am not an SEO expert by any means, just trying to improve the ranking of my own personal real estate site. Are directory links good for backlinks, or are they a waster of time?

New ways to get links (excluding on site link bait)?
Fellow SEOs, I’m looking for a new way to reach out to bloggers and site owners for links. There are quite a few link bait techniques to lure bloggers thanks to = amazing content, infographics,...but there are not so many articles on ways to contact bloggers/webmasters and ask for links... We all know that contacting site owners directly and politely asking then to place a link on their home page is as useful as a comb in Bruce willis’s hand. Link exchange is as dead as the Dodo and business partner links are usefull and easier to get but opportunities are often limited. I have been organizing contests for bloggers recently and it has been quite successful up to now, but I always like to have a spare trick up my sleeve. So if any of you have a decent method to reach out to bloggers/webmaster and get decent links please let me know, I will be forever thankful ; ) Cheers
