Automatic Directory Submissions
-
I was talking to someone about automatic directory submissions with someone lately, and would love the thoughts of the community here.
Basically, the thought was that automatic directory submissions wouldn't get flagged by Google, because they're directories, not necessarily spam links. Is this still true in a post-penguin world? He hasn't seen any negative effects from it yet, but I'm still cautious.
My thoughts would be not to depend on the automatic submissions, but to use them as a supplement. If a handful (maybe 50/mo) of directory links could be submitted automatically, that could free up more time for content development and promotion, which is where I believe the real value lies. It would also help skeptical clients feel better about having a certain number of links.
So, what have you seen so far? Is this dangerous, safe, or fairly pointless?

Okay, so my caution was well-founded. Thanks for helping me feel sane.
I really appreciate your input on this one guys. Thank you!

Directories ARE spam links for the most part. Directories had a place on the web a long time ago, now they are just places for SEO links because people use search engines to find what they are looking for.
Stay away from directories except for a few of the big guys like Yahoo where you are not guaranteed inclusion - but those cost money. Skeptical clients will think you're a hack if you prepare a report for them with spammy directory links.

Dangerous.
I would read more about Penguin before going further. Also here's another post that may provide insight:

Hope this helps!

Deciding on directories
Hi guys, I've read lots of different opinions on directories and it seems that directories are still a useful part of an SEO strategy. What I'm struggling to understand however is how to know which directories are worth listing with and which may get the company a slapped wrist from Google. Is there an easy way to know such as its domain authority? Cheers in advance for your help! Leo

Why does my aged Yahoo Directory listing not show up as link in OpenSiteExplorer?
A site of my is in the yahoo directory (3dprinter.net). It's been there for a long time. I just went into OpenSiteExplorer to see where the link ranked, and it's not there. Why would not not show up? And if it doesn't show up, is it even worth my money to do for other sites?

Our website has seen a steady decline in rankings over the past few months, is there any merit to paid bulk directory submission? Or could it potentially harm our campaign.
Our website has been experiencing a slow but steady decline in rankings despite our activity on social media platforms, is there any value in paying a large sum for bulk directory submission? Or will this only result in our overall website authority decreasing further due to unnatural links. Would really appreciate any help.

Directories are Paid links right ?
How are directories ok for buying links ? How can the funds be claimed to be used to review your submission when everyone knows you are basically buying a link ? What experiences have you had god and bad with directories ? Is it a free for all any directory will do or should you be more selective in your approach. If so what are the signs to look out for on a top quality directory.

Help me understand the gap between DMOZ and the Google Directory?
I have seen other sites showing up in OSE with backlinks from both DMOZ and Google Directory. We are in DMOZ, and our backling is showing for that in OSE, but i don't understand how to get added to the Google directory? When i go to the appropriate category, and click "submit link" it just takes me back to DMOZ! Is there something i'm doing wrong here? This is the page we are on in DMOZ And this is the page i believe we should be on in the google directory As a side note, i would love to hear your opinions if this really even matters? does google really use it's own directory as part of its search algorithm?

Has anyone seen positive results from using Submiteaze to submit to directories? I know an SEM agency that uses it for clients' link building campaigns, but I don't know if it is worth buying. Are there better alternatives?
I would like to start a link building initiative at my company for a new website, and would like to know if the value of the links built using Submiteaze would be worth the money.
