Better click through rate in 2nd position?
-
I'm digging through my Google Webmaster tools and found something really odd. On one particular keyword phrase Google is reporting a higher CTR on the 2nd position over the first. A lot higher. Per Google the 2nd position is getting a 31% CTR. Has anyone else seen this?

Title & Description really get read?<sarcasm></sarcasm>
I appreciate the feedback. Very insightful. And it is reassuring to know that titles do help CTR.
So I did a little more digging. This is actually a branded term, and it appears that the maps listing is currently in the 2nd position. Which leads to the next potential discovery, ...Does google webmaster tools consider a map listing a rank 1-10? Further investigation of my keywords suggests "Yes". So the map listing is getting a higher CTR than the first position.

I've seen this happen many times, we've had clients who have received the same if not higher traffic in positions 2-4 then they did once we got them into position #1. I think many users are drawn to a clever title and description of the page not necessarily the #1 position. Like IPROdigital said as long as you are visible on page #1, I'd say about the fold, and you have a compelling title and description you are going to get some traffic that is equivalent or sometimes even better then the site in position #1.

I like this question....
Yes, I have seen it.... you can create this condition by smart title tag writing.
-
You are out-ranked by the publisher, who you will probably never beat, but you entice more clicks by shouting a kickass price in your title tag.
-
Your title tag shouts some great value proposition such as FREE Shipping, FAST delivery.
-
Your title tag is simply more sexy by use of the words... "Secret Method..... Kickass Results..... or..... Free BEER
-
-
Perhaps you have a better description or more compelling title based on the searches? Not impossible. That's why I tell clients that even if they don't rank above competitors but are on the visible part of Page 1 with a more compelling title and description that may be enough to get the visitor to click through.

Bounce rates and TOS: Most trustworthy global benchmarks
Hi all, I'm trying to write a blog post about the human attention span and the likelihood of people bouncing on websites. After doing some research I'm surprised about how many 'outdated' numbers are circulating: many articles refer to studies from '12 or '14. Like this:

How can I reduce my high bounce rate?
I've recently upgraded to a WP site but i have a very high bounce rate. It is typically 75-80% and recently I saw a 95% bounce rate. I found part of the issue was I neglected to change the urls for my adwords acct but I did that weeks ago and its still very high. Last week, for 1 day only i had 18% but it shot back up when I made some code changes that didn't pan out as expected. The site is an online store and is www.cheaptubes.com I really need to fix it. my business is severely hurting. Any and all ideas are appreciated.

Bounce Rate Spike Overnight - Did anyone else notice this?
Hello Moz Community, Starting August 12th, 2015, my overall website traffic bounce rate spiked literally over night and I am trying to figure out why? My traffic increase rate remained the same.
Search Behavior | | CamiloSC
My time on page actually nearly doubled.
but my bounce rate shot up from 9% to 82%. This is the same issue for almost every page in my 500+ page website. My bounce rate in every page was always below 14%. And literally over night on August 12th, the bounce rate skyrocketed. Did something roll out around that time?
Does anyone else have this same issue that would be kind enough to share some insight?0 -
Decent Bounce Rate but extremely low visit duration and page depth?
I'm having a bit of difficulty understanding the Bounce Rate, Visit Duration, and Page Depth metrics in Google Analytics. GA is reporting that my site's bounce rate is pretty decent - currently 36%. Yet when I drill down into audience behavior engagement, I am seeing that the vast majority of visit durations are 0-10 seconds, and the page depth is only 1 for a majority of visitors. If this were the case, wouldn't my bounce rate be higher?

My satellite website is ranking better than my actual site. Why and what to do?
This is our website: www.sauspiel.de and this is the satellite website. As the satellite site has a better ranking for the keyword "schafkopf" since two or three weeks we wonder how this could happen and what would be best to change it or improve the situation. Shall we take down the satellite site, redirect to the "real" site or try to downgrade? And what would you consider to be the (strongest) reason? Any suggestions? Thanks a lot for your help and assessment!

Click through rate crashing...
I have been on a pretty big content upgrade on my websites. More content 5 pages to 14 pages 100 words to 500+ words per page More images More alt tags This has increased my traffic & my click through rates due to a massive increase in impressions. But because the impressions have gone up so much further my CTR had crashed. I have gone from : 500--> 50 to 4500 -->70 In one month. (Taken from Google webmaster tools) Will having a much lower CTR hurt my ranking in the long run? In the end I want more phone calls about my service so far I'm not yet seeing that conversion happening.

Better rank VS Better Title Tag
I changed my title tag to encourage a better CTR by looking less keyword stuffed and my rank dropped from #2 to #5. So what do you think is better a title that business name first unlike everyone else who is just keywords first or a more google friendly title that looks like everyone else?
