Does MozAuthority calculates the MozAuthority of each incoming link?
-
Hey Mozzers!
So as I'm checking MozAuthority as a primary parameter to determine if a co-operation with a website is worthwhile, I did notice that it's mainly based on QUANTITY of inbound links.
My question is this: Does my site's MozAuthority calculates The same parameter from each incoming link?
Example:
My site, www.google.com, has 5 incoming links from low MozAuthority domains.
Your site, www.facebook.com, has 5 incoming links from medium MozAuthority domains.
His site, www.yahoo.com has 5 incoming links from high MozAuthority domains.
Will the 3rd case necessarily have a higher MozAuthority than #1 and #2?
-
Joram and Adam are essentially correct. MozRank is built to emulate PageRank, and so it does take into account the MR of the incoming links, not just the total count. It is in essence, though, a measure of quantity - just a complex one. Links from sites with more links count more, so that's a quality signal, in an abstract way, but we don't take into account the relevance of the links or spam factors.
Domain Authority is much more complex and is a machine-learning model based on observed Google rankings. Essentially, it's an attempt to predict the ranking power of a site.
-
Yes it does in the end.
-
Thanks, Adam.
I was looking for a quote at the "Learn SEO" section that you linked to, and there isn't any ;\
-
Thanks, Joram.
So in the bottom line - does Domain Authority also calculates the DA of each inbound link?
-
I think you mean either DomainAuthority or mozRank when you mention MozAuthority. mozRank is similar to Google's PageRank and Domain Authortiy is a metric based on a combination of all domain ranking factors.
As far as I know mozRank is mainly based on the number of inbound links and the populairity of the websites that link to you. So here your assumption will be true.
With Domain Authority a lot of other metric are taken into consideration as well to calculate the final score, such as domain trust metrics, social signals, etc.
-
Moz Authority metrics are based not on the total number of links, but the authority each link passes. A page with links from 5 high authority pages will generally have much higher authority metrics than a page with links from 5 low authority pages.
Will the 3rd case necessarily have a higher MozAuthority than #1 and #2?
Probably, but not necessarily:
- It's possible to get links from low authority pages on high authority domains, which would only pass a small amount of authority.
- A page with a lot of links will pass less authority to each link.
My answer uses some generalizations, here are more details on the specific metrics:

Reclaim lost links to old pages?
We recently moved our site to a new CMS and did a complete redesign, with new content. It's really hit our SEO. Open site explorer is telling me there are lots of 404 web pages which were basically old product pages that no longer exist, since the way we have structured the site has changed. So is it worth trying to reclaim these links? If so, how can I do that without building pages at the URL - will a 301 redirect be enough?

Massive drop in linking domains - please advise!
Hi guys! Our site www.carwow.co.uk appears to have been punched in the face by the latest Moz update. It's claiming our #linking root domains has dropped from 225 to 135 and has subsequently hit our DA from 38 to 35. We haven't disavowed any links and our off-site strategy has been going well the past 2 months. Search performance has increased by around 15% (around 5k sessions) and rankings have improved week on week. Any idea if this is a Moz error? That's almost a 50% drop in linking root domains. Thanks, James

Site Explorer shows links as followable but they have nofollow tags
Hello, I am looking at site explorer and sites linking to my site moneyfact.co.uk. I've got thousands of links showing as 'followable' but when i check them they have rel="nofollow" tags. e.g: http://www.dianomioffers.co.uk/partner/moneyfacts.co.uk/brochures.epl?partner=93&partner_id=93&partner_variant_id=33 Why would they show as followable when the links are nofollowed? Thanks Steve

Competitive Link Analysis Tool?
Hi, I ran a competitive link analysis report today and back came quite a few domains that 2 or more of my 5 main competitors link from. Is it worth me submitting links to these sites? And would i be best served submitting my homepage URL or submitting a brand page such as Creative Recreation Trainers? I want to target that brand but don't want to do it if my main URL is better? Any ideas? See below my report. | Subdomain | Subdomain mR | Subdomain mT | # Competitors | # Linking Pages | Link Acquired |

Seomoz research tools question for inbound links
What is the best seomoz tool and or indicator within a tool for checking on a link (directory or article site) to evaluate whether or not you would actaully want a link from them? Any way to see if google penalizes them for there tactics or if that can hurt me by them linking to me or whatever? I am at the beginning of a link building mission, but want to ensure that I do it methodically and correctly as possible based on the combines wisdom of this community. Thanks for your help, Steven

OSE Linking Domains CSV Export Blank?
For some client domains, I've tried to do a CSV export from the OSE Linking Domains page, I get a CSV that contains the typical OSE header text, but no output records. Before I click the CSV link I always choose "show domains with links to All pages on the Root Domain". It doesn't happen with every domain I've tried this with, and when I've had the time/patience, some of the time if I try hours later, I get data. The problem though is I rarely have the luxury of running reports a second time during the audit cycle. Has anyone else experienced this? Is it a bug, or just an export fail due to system resources or something?

Does OSE Anchor Text Distribution CSV include internal links or external only?
Quite often when I'm using OSE and perform a CSV export, it looks like the total inbound link count and many phrases come from internal links for the domain in question. I haven't had the time to try and figure this out and don't know exactly how to go about figuring it out. So the initial question is does OSE's anchor text distribution CSV include internal links or are they external only? And alternately, how do I test for this? I deal with sites that have tens or hundreds of thousands of pages and hundreds of thousands or millions of links...
