Someone not removing a link to our site
-
Hi Mozzers,
We recently worked with an SEO company that bought a few sitewide links without our permission which caused us to get a huge slap by the last panda/penguin update.
We managed to remove most of the links except one site (The biggest one).
He simply doesn't reply to our emails etc...What should I do in such case?
Thanks.
-
I pretty much tried it, I guess I shall wait a little longer for his reply.
If none is given, I will disavow his link I guess. Thanks everyone !
-
Call him first of all if there is a phone number. Email him multiple times and offer to paypal him $20 for his coding time to remove the link. Tell him you're going to keep emailing him because the links NEED to come down. That usually works.
-
You don't have to explain yourself to Google when using the disavow tool. Simply list the domain and disavow all links from that domain. Doesn't matter why they are there. I would disavow as soon as possible. That's why the tool is there, to ignore the links you can't get removed.
-
Yes I am sure it's hurting me as it is a link from 1,000's of his pages, horrible & nasty sitewide.
The thing about Disavow is that I heard it isn't really reommended to use it, especially if you are the reason that this link is there.
I am maybe not the reason but it is a SEO company that I hired...Do you guys sitll think I should use it?
We do have some super high quality links by the way.
This slap really came out of nowhere , caused us to lose about 65% of our organic traffic.Do you have any other suggestions for me :)?

Have you received a message from Google (through webmaster tools) regarding unnatural links? If yes, then you might have been manually penalized. The disavow tool might work well in your case - only disavow spam links like the one you mentioned -.
If you didn't receive the unnatural links message, this tool might still help, but instead (or in addition), I would concentrate in earning high quality links.
-
Are you certain this link is causing a problem? If so, considering they aren't being cooperative have you looked into using the Disavow Links tool?
-
Good news! Both Google and Bing both have a disavow link tool:
Google:

Bing:

Enjoy and you owe me a coke!

You want to disavow the link with Google if it is hurting you: https://www.google.com/webmasters/tools/disavow-links-main?pli=1
Be sure to look up tutorials on how to submit links to disavow so that you do it right. And be darn sure you want the link disavowed. But that way you can take care of any nasty links hanging around out there regardless of the webmaster's cooperation.

I have managed to land a few expert pieces on external sites for my company and would like to document that on our blog in the form of mini-blurbs which lead through to the article... but if I link back to it, is that bad practice?
Of course link sharing can be punishable if it is done to share juice, and I understand that on the surface it could look like link sharing, but in reality it would just be nice to document the different successes we've had. Thoughts?

Am I better off with ten links from one site or one link from ten sites?
I am writing a series of linked-back articles for a highly-ranked web publisher, but wonder if I'd be better off sharing the articles across different sites. My goal is to grow our domain authority and SEO rankings.

AllTop Linking Me to Other Sites Feeds, Webmasters Reporting Lots of Broken Links
I submitted my blog to All Top awhile ago and something seems to be wrong with their feed. They're sending people to mysite.com/truth-o-meter.com/this-is-a-post. It's not just truth-o-meter either. I'm getting links that are supposed to go to all kinds of political blogs. As a result, I'm getting a ton of broken links reported on Google Webmasters. I couldn't find any real support option on alltop.com, and when I log in, there are no sites for me to manage. Instead, I resubmitted the site with the correct feed address and in the comments, I mentioned the problem. All I got was a message saying the site was rejected. I believe because I already added the site. But I'm thinking they didn't pay attention to the comments. (In fact the message may have gone through an auto-filter considering how quickly it was rejected.) Is there a way to solve this? Is this a situation in which I would use the disavow tool? If All Top continues to create bad links, how do I stop the issue once and for all? Thanks!

Unable to view link from Apprentices gov.uk site
Hi, I've noticed that when some companies are advertising for apprentices on the https://apprenticeshipvacancymatchingservice.lsc.gov.uk website they gain a followed link from the site. When I then use opensiteexplorer the link doesn't show. Does anyone know the reason for Moz not picking this up? Am I not giving it long enough to show? Your help would be very much appreciated.

DA of External Link Sites
Curious as to how you separate a "good" link from a "bad" one. I go through Open Site Explorer and see a variety of sites linking to our page. Some have good Domain/Page Authority and others do not. When looking for links, where do you determine whether a link from a specific page will help/hurt you in terms of their DA/PA? Translated another way: How much DA/PA does a site/page need to have before you decide it will pass good link juice to yours via a link?

Text Link vs image link?
Which passes most link juice a text link or an image with the correct 'alt' attribute? Do the pass the same amount or is one more valuable than the other?

When new links to site do we see DA improve right away?
If I get a new link from a external site with a high DA, will it show has soon has the link is available on the referring site? My new site as NO Domain Authority, I guess a link with a DA of 83 will in-cress it.

Follow or Nofollow outbound links to resourceful, related site?
As I am going through and redeveloping a website, I am trying to add some external links to resourceful information regarding this page. Should I put a nofollow or follow attribute on these? I am only putting 1-5 links per page to associations and other organizations that would be beneficial to the visitor. I am worried about the number of outbound links causing me to get penalized. Ideas?
