What are your thoughts on keyword density?
-
Useless metric?
Good as an indicator, but not of any real value?
Best way to judge how well content is optimised?
I've heard all kinds of opinions, what's yours?
Thanks!

All absolutely valid responses - we currently just write copy for our users and optimise HTML for the search engines, seems to be working well thus far
Thanks guys!

In my opinion, as long as the page title, headings and some of the content have your kw in it, you should be fine. The content should be natural, but because it focuses on a specific good/service those terms will naturally flow out a bit more.
Google understands "natural" much more than people think. If something is "unnatural" it might consider it giving the person who queried that keyword a bad user experience and that is what Google doesn't want to do. If the searcher always has a good user experience, they will come back (and that is one of the objectives of Google Algorithm).

I never even think about KW density. I just write in natural language. Sometimes that produces a lot of keyword instances in my writing, sometimes it doesn't.
I think that it is hard enough to write great content without having the additional burden of stuffing or subtracting some special words into the content. What a PITA.
Google doesn't want people doing that. Save yourself some time and just write like a human. That's what I do and my stuff ranks fine.

Keyword density can help Google identify what your page is about.
There is not a certain % of keyword density that will give you good or bad results - the thing to keep in mind while you are writing is your visitors. You want to mention your keyword where applicable in your content; however, you do not want it to seem forced.
Best way to judge how well content is optimized? - I like using SEOmoz On-Page Optimization tool.
David Naylor has a pretty cool keyword density tool which returns some good info.
Hope this helps.

How to Incorporate Awkward Keyword Phrases
Certain keywords are good choices for my website (high CTR, low difficulty, high volume), but they would be very awkward to use in my website content. For example, "therapist near me" is a popular search term, but it would be very strange for me to use those words in that order in my content (I am a therapist). Any thoughts about this are welcome.

Site update and what to do about current keyword rank
Hi im in the process of giving my site a major update as its only one page and not responsive . The the new site will have a homepage with a list of my services with a small description of each and each service will link to its own page. My one page site at the moment ranks number one in my area for a low competition keyword (moz keyword score of 13%) of course this sends me very little traffic. With my new site im also going for more keywords but these will be Moz KWD 30% and 40%. I know this will be quite hard and take some time but i'm pretty sure I know what I need to do to get there. Now my question is what do i do with my current home page (only page) that ranks for that low comp keyword?

I dont want to lose my rank for that, so do i make a new page on my new site that is optimized for that keyword, but then I don't want to 301 my homepage to that so I guess as its such an easy word to rank for my new page would soon rank for that? What are your thoughts and advice please, thanks in advance.1 -
Keywords in Navigation
Hi, What is best practice for main navigation links with regards to use of keywords in them. For example is it best to using the phrase 'Pricing", "Website Pricing" or "Website Design Pricing" To me 'Pricing' is more appropriate because to the user they know they are on a website designer's site so what else would pricing be for right?! Furthermore you use less 'real estate' on the nav bar! There is on page text around the site which has links to "see our website design pricing" etc so I assume that is perhaps a more natural place to include that phrase? Look forward to your insights 🙂

Several keywords and only one page to posicionate
Hi there! I'm new in SEOMOZ and the SEO world (so excuse me if the question is so elemental.....). I'm having trouble when trying to apply the right seo strategy to one of the page of my companys corporate site. My company offers serveral services in the field of the communications&advertisement. Not being considered as different items in the services menu of the website is a requirement for the company. They want to describe them (all services) in a single page. The problem is that there's one title, one description tag, one url and many relevant keywords related. Should I convince them that this structure is a bad one regarding SEO or there's a way to solve this situation? Thanks in advanced.

To enter keyword meta tags or to not enter keyword meta tags?
I've been doing SEO for awhile, but new to SEOMoz. I'm surprised that SEOMoz does not recommend keyword meta tags. I didn't enter them for the longest time because I know Google doesn't care about them. However, I did read that other search engines DO use them. And therefore that is why you should have them. I teach my customers about SEO, and I know it would be much easier for them not to enter or worry about the keyword meta tags. However, I would love to hear opinions here. And to Bing/Yahoo put any weight into them or is it only really small search engines? Thanks! Hilary

Is it necessary to add keywords to all of your pages?
Hi Everyone he company I work for has just built a new website with approximately 87 pages/sub pages. Should i be looking to add keywords and descriptions to all of these pages, via the allocated areas in the back end of the site? I am using "google's key words" tool to generate relevant key words. If any one has any advice it would be much appreciated. Thanks for you help Regards Pete
