Changing Social Media Profiles Name

Hi Mozzers,
A client is thinking about changing their social media handles to shorten them to just their brand name as opposed to brand name plus the word 'apparel'.
What is the implications of doing this and does the link change from facebook/brand-apparel or does the URL stay the same?

For your Company Page, I have some bad news: there is no way to change your company page in a rebrand. At Moz, we tried reaching out to LinkedIn with no avail. And they have no process to apply for a name change or a merge. We have to create a new page from scratch, lose all our followers, and have all our employees go and change their own profiles.

With Twitter, you can do it all on your own. When Moz rebranded, we grabbed @Moz really early in the process so no one else would snag it. With Twitter, you can change your Twitter handle at anytime and still keep all your followers. Since we had both handles, we changed @Moz temporarily to something random, then changed @SEOmoz to @Moz, and the other one to @SEOmoz. And all our followers from @SEOmoz were then following @Moz. The only thing we had to reach out to Twitter for was re-verifying our Twitter handle. If you change your username and had a verified handle, it will de-verify it.

Hi Gareth,
On Facebook, if you have over 200 "likes" for your brand, you cannot change your name without Facebook's help. When you go to edit page info, you can request a name change through Facebook's interface. This also will change your vanity URL to your page. Facebook 301 redirects your old vanity URL to your new one. You won't lose any of your page "likes."

Hello Everyone, So we have a site (brand1.com) but one of our competitors has a very similar brand name and domain (brand2.org). They’re similar enough that could be confused by users and search engines and target the same topics. When you do a manual brand search they would come up and both have about the same Domain Authority. Assuming we can’t have them take their site down do any of you have any thoughts on how we could potentially measure potential impact they might be having or ideas on how best to approach this? Is it "correct" to welcome to my social community an authority figure?
Hi, I just "earned" an authority figure as a follower on my company's twitter account (not a big account - 600 followers). The authority figure is the founder of a very relevant and big niche news site. Should I welcome her to my community? Is it correct putting her on the spot?

Is it OK to have two similar business sites share their Social Media (just one FB, Twitter, LinkedIn, etc.)?
These two businesses are owned by the same company (industry is event planning). The parent company has been in business 20+ years and caters to a corporate crowd and the more recent company started by the parent caters to consumers (weddings). Would this have any negative seo implications if they share social media accounts? or is this perhaps just more of a strategic issue i gather. And i would gather that its best for each to have their own blog. Would greatly appreciate some insight!Thanks, Christian

Spam in search engine results for company brand name
Hi, I'm having a strange problem with a certain comapny. When you Google their brand name the first 8 results or so are related - their site, Google+ page, Twitter etc. The rest of the results are completely unrelated to the site and much of it is in another language and looks really spammy. According to the site owner until recently the first 50-60 results were related - mostly local results, press releases, and franchise companies listing his business. They don't have a great link profile but that shouldn't have them dropping out of the results, especially since they're still ranking in the top 1-8 positions. Here's the strangest part: the company name is Libertana. All the spammy results are not so much spammy, they're related to the syllable "na". Examples: Ivanyukite-Na Mineral Data įt$koka!na's sounds on SoundCloud - Hear the world's sounds Bosiniya na Herizegovina - Wikipedia What on earth is going on? Why would they rank for the last syllable of their name?

Will you show a case study/live analytics of Moz before and after name change?
so many people are interested these days in changing domains either for branding purposes like you did or some people believe that having an exact match domain will save the day. I believe posting any knowledge you have gained through your fantastic looking analytics system could shed light on a subject so many people seem to be asking about. Some things I would love to know regarding the amount of people that you have either gained or lost through organic search along with your ranking for the term "seo" And other things you guys must be learning along the way as well. I would also like to know your opinion of having a meter of some sort tell us just how many new people type in Moz vs seomoz I tink it would be a great topic for people to learn about branding from as well as a way to show off your new analytics. Social Media Accounts for International Strategies
Hi! we have a client that wants to begin doing business in Italy and France. As they don't sell directly to final customer, they need to generate brand awareness first in those market. We are thinking of a content marketing strategy. As they are a furniture company and they create a very nice product, we think we can work a lot with pictures and articles. We think that Pinterest, Picassa and flickair will all be very important for the strategy. For sure, we know they should create a Facebook Account for each country, but what happens with twitter, pinterest, flickair, youtube ...? Should they also create an account for each country? They are not a very big company, and I am not sure about if they would be able to generate enough content for each account if they have an account per country. What do you think? One account per country or can we avoid that for some social networks? Thank you!

Need advice on old brand names
A couple of years ago my company put all effort into one brand name, closing multiple sites with good names. All traffic going to ie OldBrandName.com is now redirected to www.newbrandname.com/OldBrandName. Here our customers are being told about the fusion/merge and we are linking to the key-products of OldBrandName, on our new age. We have 4 of these pages for 4 different brandnames. These pages still get a lot of traffic. Now to my question: how do I get as much juice as possible out of these OldBrandNames? They have high page authority and many inbound links. But I would like to pass the juice and the links to our frontpage or other relevant pages. What is optimal? Should I just redirect all the traffic to www.newbrandname.com? The redirects was made approximately 2 years ago. We are in the travel & leisure business, so customers often visits numerous times a year, closing deals 1-2 times a year. All 4 OldBrandNames have their own specialities (family, low budget, off-the-beaten-track, wellness). Any recommendations on how to approach this?
