Opinions For Getting Worthwhile Links For Longevity
-
Hi Everyone,
I have just joined the Moz community and have been reading through a lot of content.
I have a question and I would like to put it out to all of the professional digital marketers here to hear their take on it.
Basically I work for a construction company that has developed a way to build extensions to houses which is environmentally friendly and cost effective. Obviously the house extensions market is pretty competitive and I need to work out how I can make headway into the market for the digital marketing side of things.
The website is still under construction and I am having it built in order to will viewers to enter their contact details for more information as well as provide lots of useful content that show why the product will be more cost effective than say a standard timer frame constructed house extension.
We are having some professional videos made as well so we can set up a YouTube channel and this will be clearly visible on the website as well.
What I would like advice on is how would you start to build quality links to a site like this. We are not going for just local trade but more national (UK). The main thing is that we have longevity and I know it wont happen very quickly but I want to ensure that we do things the right way.
Thanks
Barry

In terms of getting worthwhile links video is actually a pretty solid way to start. You can get a lot of relevant / industry links utilising them, just make sure they link back to your page and not the video hosting one (which YouTube is notable for).

Hi Ruben,
Thanks for your response. We have looked into Vimeo Pro as well as YouTube and it is not fully decided which way we will go yet, it is only really from mentions that we said YouTube. The videos will actually be embedded into the site as well.
My main issue is getting the product seen and heard about. It featured in a national renovation magazine recently and that created a few leads but the business owner wants to build a determined web presence for the new product.
Many people search for information about home extensions and outbuildings etc, but we really need to show off the benefits of the actual product itself, ie it can be built off site and brought in much like modular construction (almost like enormous lego) ie, this will benefit inner city developments where there is no room to park construction vehicles etc.
But getting the word out about it, and in front of the right market is no doubt going to be very difficult.
If anyone has thoughts on that it would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

"We are having some professional videos made as well so we can set up a YouTube channel and this will be clearly visible on the website as well."
Can you discuss more about this? When you say "clearly be visible," do you mean you're going to embed them?
Also, are you sure youtube is the best way to go? I don't have an answer here for you, but I do know it's not a foregone conclusion as the best video hosting. A lot of people on here (including Moz itself) support Vimeo and/or some other video hosting platforms. So, unless you've already looked into it, I'd suggest figuring out which one is best for you, since you're spending all the money on nice professional videos.
Lastly, (and this is just so you can get more people with better information to answer your question) I'd add "links" or "back links" to the subject line of your question. It sounded like you were talking about "geo-targeting" which is why I'm guessing no one responded for four hours...that's kind of a long time for this forum.
Best of luck,
Ruben

PR Web Press Release for Links
I was wondering if submitting press release, such as to PR Web, if the links, on the press release linking back to our site still have any value in today's SEO world? If so, what is the right way to take out the most value of a Press Release.?? Please advise, Morris

No Domain Link In Press Release, What About Yelp?
Hi Moz, I understand that using a PR for SEO benefit is old-school, black hat, and largely outlawed by Google. We are simply trying to get our name pushed further into the local market, i.e., using a press release for it's natural intention. Our company offers free quotes through our site and the scheduling of jobs with new clients is largely done online. I think it seems silly NOT to have a link to our URL in the press release, but rather than poke Google, we're fine omitting it. However, would linking our Yelp near the end be a big deal? Yelp no-follows their URLs back to the company site so there isn't a risk with pumping up a support link through PR and we can provide SOME clickable link to our information. Thoughts?

Brand Search Results- how do you make sure spammy links don't hurt your brand
We are seeing a spammer start ranking #4 for our branded search result on google. This could potentially be hurting our brand. Any suggestions that have worked for you recently? For more context we already have: Create Social profiles (Linkedin, G+, FB etc) which are engaged and frequently updated Analyzed Domain Authority, Links and recency of the spammy article. The domain and the page authority seems weak, and the spammy article is dated Dec of last year Looked at various posts on http://moz.com/community/q/reputation-management. Thanks in advance!

Could product sample giveaways be seen as 'paying for links'?
One of our main methods of advertising for my startup business is by sending samples to bloggers for review. I've read a lot of good things about this method and many of my competitors use it very well - I've even seen it suggested on the Moz blog several times in the past. The one thing I do worry about is that Google may see this as a form of 'link purchasing', as I'm offering something in exchange for a link and some of the blog posts may reference that fact (or at least most likely use the word "Review" - Which could be some kind of footprint?).

We don't intend to ask for anchor texts, so at the very least that should look natural. What are your opinions? Could this be seen as paid linkbuilding or is it regarded as a natural marketing method? [EDIT]:
One idea we had was to potentially offer bloggers the chance to earn a portion of their purchase back by writing a review on their blog. They'd buy from us and let us know they have a blog, then we'd reimburse them some credit towards their next order for every blog post they write about us. Does this sound like a good idea or is this potentially more dangerous than simply offering free samples?0 -
