New Rules Keywords of Google Panda
-
Hello Everyone,..
I want to ask regarding my confusion of Keywords. How does search engine see the keywords? and find the website that is matched with the keywords.
So this is what I mean:
When I type keywords "luxury dog clothes" at google, then the website which is showed up, is nothing using keyword of "luxury dog clothes". But then appeared websites which in bold words are "designer dog clothes", "dog clothes", "designer dog" .
Can anyone please help me to explain why Google shows the website which is not identical matched keywords "luxury dog clothes" that I am looking for? I read at the beginer guide SEO, that the good keywords must be placed at the front of the title then in the body description, placed no more than 2 times. But in fact, for the example above, there is nothing words of "luxury dog clothes" placed at the title and in the body description.
This makes me very confuse how to determine the right keyword for mine, especially the long tail keywords.
Thank you everyone. Hopefully you all can help me to explain as I am a newbie at SEO.

Owh well... now it is like a puzzle inside my head. LOL It's not as simple as I think I guess. Thanks once again Chris.
YEappppp,.. I am not give up!!!! gooo gooo gooo...

that's just an example from the term you mentioned write the meta for users, you want the grab their attention and if you can slip a few keywords in there all the better.
Nothing worse than seeing a meta description or title like
Keyword | keyword | keyword
Its a difficult line as you need to get the balance right of users vs keywords. If you know your content is about only a couple of things then its easier. As you've started you can and I recommend look at your competitors see what they are doing how they are doing it and why its working and most of all learn from it.
Keep going!

Thanks again Chris for your help
Chris I want to ask regarding the link that keywords to concept that you gave to me. So then, when I am looking up for a keyword in the Google keyword planner, there will be a group of ideas that is related to a keyword that I looked for. Which is very good for me to make it as a themed concept in my fully content, isn't it?
Then,.. should I write each of keywords in the group of ideas as meta keywords at my website? Since in the article that we shouldn't optimize for only a single keyword.
What do you think?

Hello again,
So I've taken the time to Google your search and behold -
Meta Title - Designer dog collars, designer dog leads, designer dog ...
URL - www.*****dog.c/
Meta Description - Designer, stylish and luxury dog collars and dog clothes from UK pet boutique Lovemydog, stylish dog coats, designer dog collar and leash, show leads,
You may see that the search term is in fact there but its in the meta description yes its not the strongest but combined with the humming bird update its enough to rank it along with a good domain authority. The reason you want a long tail compared is a short tail like July 4th, all though July 4th may get more searches but the longer tail 4th July Dog Harness get less searches but less competitive and more likely to convert to your keyword.Hope that helps.

Hi Caitlin,..
Thank you for helping me to answer my confusion.
Yes I know Cait,.. It was all written on the guide. But then, If I type the long tail keyword on the search engine, there is no website using that long tail keyword appeared on the first page. That's why I am so confused right now. You can check to type "luxury dog clothes" at GOOGLE, but then website which appeared on the first page is nothing used "Luxury Dog Clothes" instead "Designer Dog Clothes", "Dog Clothes", "Designer Dog"
-
Long term keywords are highly targeted which means that, overall, there is generally less competition. While 4th July Dog Harness may not be receiving as much traffic as the other keywords you had mentioned, there is less competitions. This means that the chances of your website being served up in the SERPs for this search are much higher - which is what you want
^Caitlin

The other question is,.. If I want to post about the 4th July dog harness.. what the best keyword for that?
As I have looked up at the keyword difficulty tool that keyword "4th July" and "dog harness", they have the high search volume. But then if I look up the long tail keyword of "4th July Dog Harness" it only a few search volume. So then, what do you think what keywords should I use then?
Sorry
I am a newbie ,.. need a guidance
Thank you

Hiya,
lots of things to look at but try

and
http://moz.com/blog/keyword-volume-tools
My favorite sneaky tip is "don't hit enter" on the second link!
and finally research research research the more time you put into researching the more it pays off down the line.

Hello Chris,.. Hello FCBM,..
Thank you for helping me to explain what's going on here.
Well then, regarding the long tail keywords, what do you suggest about the tools of "keyword difficulty" that SEOMOZ offered? Whether keywords how would you choose based on the keyword difficulty?
Thank you Chris & FCBM

Without doing any research my bet is luxury dog clothes has far less search volume than designer dog clothes. So the site you're talking about decided that they don't want to chase the words with less volume which makes sense. Also Google is smart enough to make the connection between designer and luxury. You usually don't want to worry too much about long tail keywords as those have low volume searches and don't make economic sense to optimize pages for something that get searched rarely. What does make sense is getting a high ranking for decent traffic KW and then blogging or something to capture the long tail words.
Hope that makes your understanding a bit better.

Hiya,
Google release an update a while ago now called "humming bird" the idea with the update wasn't to penalize of anything but to better understand users search terms as English can have multiple meaning for one search. So knowing this you have to think luxury dog clothes & designer dog clothes are very similar and Google understands this and what it's trying to do it give you what it thinks the best search is for that term.
You can read some more here http://moz.com/blog/hummingbird-unleashed or do some searches and find out more.
Obviously that's a simple version there may be other factors but I only took a brief look.

Is it a bad idea to hyphenate keywords?
Hello, my understanding was that Google reads hyphens in keywords as spaces, but if that's accurate how come keywords with hyphens that I research with Keyword Explorer — for instance, hospital-acquired infections — rank lower when I include the hyphen? If the hyphen hurts SEO, do I have to remove them all from the blog or page in question? Removing hyphens means a blog or page will have punctuation errors, which is irritating to an editor, but I don't want to sacrifice the effectiveness of keywords, either. Thanks, in advance, for your response!

Brand Name Keyword Stuffing
I'm targeting Roho Cushions and the category page has many products starting with Roho underneath it. I know the keyword "Roho" shows up at least 70 times. I'm not targeting the keyword Roho, but could this negatively effect the rest of my keywords that start with Roho, such as "Roho Wheelchair Cushions"?

Few questions about panda and penguin
I seem to be a little confused about how SEO has changed recently and what things should be avoided even though I am still seeing these things impacted on my site. The recent panda and penguin updates have scared many of us SEO'ers into thinking that keyword optimization is now a no-no as apposed to how it used to be necessary. Let me explain Concerning keyword optimization in the past in SEO we would practice placing keywords into our pages to make sure we are properly optimizing for such keywords. For instance bolding keywords, placing them in content, titles and descriptions. With panda Google seems to be negativly impacting the use of over optimization with keywods and it is what is preached about on most SEO blogs now, but I have been experimenting with such things with my sites and have noticed a few things. Before the panda update I used to rank with my main site on a particular keyword in second place. While the panda update effected me negatively with ranking it was not so much the ranking that hurt me as apposed to the adsense revenue. I used to place consistently second place with my keyword, since panda I have dropped on average to 4th - 7th place, almost changing daily. The ranking was not so much a drop but the adsense revenue difference a month is about 2,000 which did impact me. Since then I have been going over panda rules and making the appropriate changes like getting rid of low quality content, to many keywords, ad placement. I am one who likes to experiment all the time so there are a few things that I have discovered with my diligence. I have noticed that when I cross a threshhold of about 5 repeated keywords on a page I am safe, when I begin to add more than 5 I start to notice a drop in ranking. If I go back to 5 and under I tend to rank back up. As well with that I have noticed that the placement of the keywords also impacts my ranking. When I place keywords more spread out over my page I see better rankings, if I tend to optimize my keyword more on the top portion of my page I see a drop in ranking. My question is even though keyword optimization is considered a no-no I still see that it will impact my rankings greatly. Since everything I read kind of goes against this I am wanting to hear your opinions about this. Another issue is relative content and the amount of pages/articles. It seems that to many pages or articles will flag you as a spam site. Now the idea of less is more is the practice we see. If this is the case then what I am questioning is how is it that google can determine a sites quality based on less. With less to use, google would have to have some serious and definitive triggers to determine the quality of the site. Can one simple page really change your ranking that much? How in the world does google determine the quality with just a few pages as apposed to many? My site freescrabbledictionary.com (and no I am not back linking right now :)) I am a scrabble based site that helps users find words and definitions for scrabble games and other word games. On some of my pages I have articles/pages which give users important info like 2 letter words, high scoring words and other stuff. When I show these words I place a link on every word to my dictionary portion so users can easily click the link and look up the word and its definition. Some of these pages show over a thousand words, so yes I have a thousand links on that page to other pages on my site. I want to keep this feature so users don't have to type in the word to look it up, but I am torn as to if this is hurting me as apposed to helping. I would love some info on this please.

Keyword and Keyphrases
I'm looking to optimise my website for some keywords and keyphrases I'm getting a bit confused on how different pages might compete (or help) each other. As we are an automotive dealer I was thinking about building the hompage around 4 keywords (one for each franchise we represent e.g 'Ford'). These show high local monthly searches and medium competition for just the manufacturer name on its own. Then if someone drills down into a franchise homepage (linked from our homepage e.g. www.ourwebsite.com/ford) I was thinking to optimise the page around e.g. 'Ford Dealer' (which has medium local monthly searches and high competition). Then if someone drills down into a particular model I optimise around that and so on. Question is will I be playing the franchise homepage vs the group homepage (Ford vs Ford Dealer) as I have read here on Keyword Cannibalization? Or will it work together? Alternative I guess is not to focus around a franchise on the group homepage and then only focus on the franchise from the franchise homepage onwards but I feel I would be missing a trick? As a new kid on the block help will be most appreciated.
