Links from my Own Blog to my Own Website and Link Scheme
-
Hi There,
I use my own blog to give advices and offer information related to my business service. Of course in terms of SEO my blog is useful not only to expand my brand presence but also to acquire long-tail traffic. I use to insert a maximum of one link with a relative matching anchor text in every article of my blog pointing to my own webpage.
Said that, the questions are as follows:
Am I involuntarily participating in a Link Scheme with my blog? And If so, how many links can I send to my own webpage ? Shall I limit the number of links to a minimum?
Thanks a lot for your advices.

How does one know that one is being penalized for linking blog pages on one site to the ecommerce pages on the mother site?
Thanks, DIane

As Mr Roberts says, making the links nofollow should stop you being penalised AND give you the benefit of the traffic.

Hi there
This really is a grey area.
By the letter of Google's law, they would see this as a link scheme. How likely is it they would find it and how likely is it that they would punish it? It's very difficult to say. Chances are they wouldn't be too pleased if they did find it. The fact that you are using matching anchor text makes me think they wouldn't be too happy.
However, on the flip side, your producing content with real value to visitors, your including relevant links to give citations in your work, so the links are quite legitimate in that sense. The thing is though is that you control them, and that's a big no-no in Google's book.
It's not up to me to judge whether it's something you should or should not be doing - I'd rather explain the risks. With this method, your opening yourself up to being penalised for running a link scheme. It's very hard to determine a limit on this or a threshold, but knowing it's possible, for me, is enough.
You could reduce your risk by lowering the amount of times you link to your site and also if you linked to your site with non-commercial anchor text, such as just your brand name or even a raw URL. That would leave less of a "trail", as it were.
You can remove the risk entirely of course by either removing the links - or instead, making the links on your blog "nofollow" to your website. Now this might be useful - your blog can continue to bring in people via long-tail keywords and the link can send them to your business site, yet the link you have will not pass SEO benefit to your business site and thus would not be seen as a link scheme. You would get all of the benefits as before other than the direct SEO benefit (which, granted, might be a significant benefit).
But look, you could equally carry on with this method if you're happy to run the risk/reward tightrope. Just be aware of the risk. You at least know which links you would need to remove or change should you get penalised in the future. It's totally your call on this but, gun-to-my-head-acting-as-an-SEO-agency example: I'd advise you to stop creating these dofollow links and change your old ones to either nofollow, or remove them.
Hope this helps.

Disavowing Links
I need some advice... I've noticed our link profile has increased with many comments links --- something I certainly have not pursued manually. I'm new to disavowing links. However, before I go ahead and disavow them, I'd like to ask how harmful these links are and would you recommend this is something I can do myself (relatively novice SEO) or if you'd recommend someone who could do this for a reasonable cost. In one instance, the link from this comment thread is with the anchor text, "porn"... Certainly not something we want to rank for, haha! I look forward to your advice

Is it okay to post my blog posts to both an internal blog on our domain and an external blog?
We have a blog internally at kay-grant.com/blog and also created an external blog at ActiveRain.com Is it okay to post the same blog posts to both sites or should I have different content for each blog?

Poor Blog and Website DA and links
Hi There We have a mature website and a mature blog with over 500 genuine blogs written on it over 4 years. In terms of actual "people" value it has to be high. We used to get 1000 visitors per day, we now get 300. We still have 850 subscribers so its of a certain size. However we have been hit by the Penguin/Panda updates and our DA has dropped to what everyone is telling us is too low for a site like this and we still have a google backlink problem, unyet we only have 190 external links that we think are all OK now. The problem we have is that we seem to have too many links from the blog to the main website with the same anchor text. This has occurred with a blogroll style link to the home page which appears on every post/page of the blog, also I think we have too many anchor same anchor text links to product pages (Motorola ES400) and category pages (Tablet PC). We're going through changing these now so that we have the right mix but the specific questions I wanted to ask were: 1. Will loads of links with the same anchor text affect us if the blog is counted as internal links. Its on the same "blog" sub-domain as the main website. 2. Will this affect the DA of both sites? 3. Is Wordpress capable of damaging us with all the extra pages it creates automatically. We've done nothing but genuine content posting here and i'm sure we can get it back but it kind of really demotivates you when 2/3rds of your traffic goes overnight. Many thanks for any help.

Why aren't links to my site from YouTube showing up in my link reports?
Our company is paying for a service to create hundreds of videos/month for us with links back to our primary domain. If I go to YouTube I see the videos with the links, but YouTube does not show in my link reports. Why not?

Great idea to get back links in short order; however the links would be unrelated. . Is it worth the effort . BTW, it's a white hat method. Should I proceed?
I have come up with a very creative way to get some great back links using white hat methods. The problem is that the back links to the site would be to an interior page or external promotional website which then have links back to the main website. What kind of value for the main domain would this potentially achieve. What are peopLes thoughts on this idea?

If I write a PR release on a site such as PRweb with anchor-text links that is picked up and published by other news sites, do the engines consider this duplicate content or additional, beneficial links?
I recently wrote a news release on PRweb that was picked up identically by 8 other news websites, with the same anchor-text links as the original. Is the reproduction of duplicate content and links across different websites like this to the benefit or detriment of SEO and ranking power? Some of the links are: http://www.mynewsdesk.com/uk/view/pressrelease/eventa-new-eventa-christmas-parties-website-is-launched-648923?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=Alert&utm_content=pressrelease http://www.prweb.com/releases/christmasparties/neweventasite/prweb8562064.htm Many thanks!!
