What does Mozcape actually do and what types of businesses use it?
-
I'm making an effort to use more of the Moz tools, but some I really don't understand...Mozcape would be chief on that list. What does it do exactly and for what purpose? I read the API Wiki, but it sounds to me a lot like Open Site Explorer...but complicated...so I assume I must be missing something or why build the thing?
Also, do local businesses even use this or is this more for national e-commerce sites?
Thanks,
Ruben

Alright, so I don't particularly think I need to be using this for my purposes, but thank you all for clarifying this issue for me. I greatly appreciate it! Special thanks to Chris and Leslie who continually help me out. I especially appreciate your consistent help!
Best,
Ruben

No, I haven't. I will!
Thanks!

Ruban,
Mozscape is the pool of data Moz compiles on a monthly basis via the following method:
Starting with the top 10 billion URLs with the highest MozRank obtained from the previous month's index, they crawl the web from the top down until they've crawled 90,000,000,000 pages.
In addition to the data gathered during the crawl (links and urls), Mozscape also includes "intelligent metrics" such as MozRank,MozTrust, Domain Authority, and Page Authority that Moz calculates based on the results of its crawl.
The Mozscape API is the service that allows Moz customers access to that raw pool of data and metrics in order to subsequently customize applications that make use of it (for themselves or for their own clients).
Have you read these yet?

Mozscape is the crawler that crawls and gives you the Moz rank, Page authority, Domain authority etc. It is used in both Site Explorer and in the Moz Toolbar browser ad on. Like Lesley said they provide a API that allows you to create your own applications based on this crawl data.

From my understanding Mozscape is the API for Open Site Explorer. You can build widgets with the Mozscape API if you wanted to offer the information in the Mozscape index to your clients. One example I can think of off my head is nibbler.silktide.com I am pretty sure they use link data from Mozscape.

Is Search Visibility actually weighted by search volume at all? Everyone seems to think so, but that seems completely wrong?
As I've been exploring Moz more, I've been looking into search visibility and what it actually represents. While searching for answers on Moz, I've seen several posts that all seem to think the search volume for keywords matters at all for the search visibility metric, and I'm wondering why anyone thinks that, when everything from Moz seems to indicate otherwise. https://mza.bundledseo.com/help/guides/moz-pro-overview/rankings/search-visibility describes the calculation as taking the CTR for each keyword, based on rank, summing those, and dividing by the number of keywords. This describes a simple, and completely unweighted by search volume, average. This means that if you are tracking 10 keywords, and rank #1 on 5 that have a search volume of 0-10, and are unranked on 5 that have a search volume of 70,801-118,000, that would generate exactly the same search visibility score as if you rank #1 on the 5 high volume, and are unranked on the 5 low volume. The above all makes search visibility look like a much less valuable metric than if it were appropriately weighted by volume, as well as potentially very misleading, since the % relates solely to the number of keywords in your analyzed segment, rather than to the % of search volume that you're obtaining (unless a) all of your keywords are the same rank, or b) all of your keywords have the same volume). Am I missing something, or is everyone just giving Moz way too much credit when it comes to the value of the search visibility metric?

Can using url builder for campaign tracking impact link equity?
We have used the URL builder tools for building custom links that are placed on our referrer websites mainly for campaign tracking in Google Analytics, but when you use a shortened link on another website how does that impact the the link juice or equity? Is there any negative impact on the link rankings? Or should you provide the specific landing page url to the company that will be posting a link to your site?

Crawl results on keyword rankings differ from actual search rankings
For the second week in a row, the weekly keyword rankings in my MOZ account show "not in top 50" for most keywords. However, when I check some of my rankings I still broadly have the rankings that I used to have. It seems that the MOZ crawl is experiencing some difficulties. Does anyone have suggestions how to find out what's going on? If I can't rely on the crawl outcomes, then the tool is not very useful anymore!

In Open Site Explorer is it possible to use wildcards?
If I have a section on my website called lists with articles in there can I use wildcards in Open Site Explorer to find how many backlinks all articles in that section have - and ideally which pages are most linked to? Something like www.example.com/lists/* to give number of backlinks to all articles in that website section and which are the most highly linked to. Would be a great feature to have! Cheers Siimon

How to use Crawl Report for a test directory
I have a client's new site set up in a folder that is not linked to from the main site. When setting up the Crawl Report, I put in the starting url for the new folder, http://oldsite.com/new/start.php. The Crawl Report came back with a crawl of the current site instead. How do folks run the crawl report to test sites before they are public? Thanks!

Using api to find likes, tweets and shares
Hi all, I have a question regarding using the API to get data on a list of urls and not one by one. I am not a developer so I might not grasp the API so well. Basically I have a list of urls, what I need from each is the following information: <colgroup><col width="98"><col width="89"><col width="92"><col width="111"><col width="99"><col width="50"><col width="64"></colgroup>

Thanks 🙂0 -

Very confused on site.com/ or not using a /
I'm wanting to put the rel="canonical" tag on my homepage but I'm not sure which to use? How would you know what to use and always links to, http://www.site.com or http://www.site.com**/** Personally I never knew there was a difference until I used the seomoz tool and I wasn't using the tag.
