Industry Benchmarks for Google Analytics
-
Hey Mozites!
I was wondering if anyone has come across any good resources for industry benchmarks relating to google analytics? (Social stats would be great as well, but Google Analytics is my main concern)
Specifically, I have a client that is a bank and I would love to be able to compare their stats (traffic, unique visitors, bounce rate, time on site, conversion rates...) to other regional banks.
Any ideas?
Thanks for reading and for your help!

Hi
Have you noticed that you can access industry benchmarks again in Google Analytics?
Make sure you activate anonymous sharing in your GA-account settings.
The report becomes available in Target Audience > Benchmarking.Hope this helps

if you want very granular information like that I would at http://trendspro.builtwith.com/pro-features
they are able to give you the type of data I hope you're looking for. I also believe compete should give you options somewhat similar to that.
Sincerely,
Thomas

Thanks for your response Tom! I am not so worried at the moment about where they are ranking but, for instance using banks as an example, this quarter has traffic increased or decreased. I just wasn't sure if anyone knew of quarterly reports that companies are doing for different industries.
I will check out those links for competitor analysis however. Thank you for sharing!

Everything you're talking about wanting to do you can do with Google analytics
competitors analytics when you want to get true analytics data from a competitor you would literally have to ask
them and they would have to say of course please take this. However you can use this guide which I believe is well done in comparing different websites of competitors
http://www.orbitmedia.com/blog/website-competitive-analysis-tools
the tool I have had the best luck with analytics wise is
is also a good tool but the free version is not quite as comprehensive.
However like I said you do need to take everything into account
comparing what you're competitors are ranking for is not easy.
Without access to their analytics you really will never know.
However you do have a chance at getting pretty close with software like compete.com

What would the US traffic increase be for a website YoY if all Google SERP rankings remained the same?
This question has come up a few times with some of our clients and I've spent some time researching this question, but I can't find an answer online so hopefully, someone at MOZ has this data available to them with all the data they collect. The data points that would be needed to answer this question off the top of my head: Increase in the # of Google Searches in the US YoY The decrease in CTR for organic results "10 blue links" which take a searcher off of Google YoY, as Google continues to keep more searchers on Google.com with rich snippets, increased AdWords prominence, AdWords extensions, etc I'm sure this greatly varies per industry, but an average for all industries is all that is needed to answer this client question. Many thanks in advance and I've included a video which hopefully helps to better explain the search "plus/minus" that we can expect to see as SEOs in 2018. WF1yLlJC6LetnpbD3

HUGE spike in Google Analytics Traffic
Hi there, I am witnessing a giant spike in my Google Analytics data (website: www.exchangecapital.com ) and I am completely stumped. My website usually gains roughly 15-20 visitors a day at most--and as of 11:10 am today my sessions for the day are up to 150. The traffic spike started on Friday at 132 sessions, Saturday at 261, Sunday at 247, etc. It's common that our sessions don't even hit the double digits over the weekends, so you can imagine my confusion. After trying to pin down some irregularities in geography, browser, and behavior, I'm still at a loss. I'm seeing a big spike in organic traffic (all not provided), as well as direct page visits, and I'm gaining traffic from US, Brazil, United Kingdom, Mexico, Spain, Malaysia, etc. etc--so not just one specific area. Is anyone else witnessing this in their data? Does anyone have any insight or ideas as to how I can look further into this? I am at a loss and any information would be appreciated. Thanks in advance! Anyone facing issues with Google Analytics today?
For some reason all pages on our site seem to be taking ages to load as they seem to be getting stuck at the "waiting for google-analytics.com"! Anyone else facing similar issues today?

Industry benchmarks stats
Hi Mozzers, Just wondering if someone could point me in the direction of some useful industry benchmarks stats. I'm currently looking at a healthy active living website but trying to find out some average benchmark stats (things like av bounce rate, av time on site, pages per visit etc) for this sector so I can compare this with the site analytics. Having had a look around I can't find a great deal out there relating to average benchmark stats for this sector. Your help greatly appreciated. Thanks Simon

Safari Has Top Browser in Google Analytics?
I find this hard to believe but it looks to me as though Safari has jumped ahead as our top browser in the month of January. At first glance I would think it was combining mobile safari with desktop safari numbers but then on the 5th spot I see Safari(in-app) which after looking into could be multiple things from safari mobile, bookmarked pages, or Chrome for ios. Just looking for thoughts on this, are others seeing a large uptick in Safari traffic for desktops?

New EU Laws governing cookies; will Google Analytics still be usable after May 25th?
Hi, first time I've posted a question, New EU Laws governing cookies; will Google Analytics still be usable after May 25th? - apologies in advance if its already been covered, but I couldn't find any answers when I searched - google search showed someone else ask the question already, but no straight answers were given:- From May 25th the Privacy and Electronic Communications Directive will come in to force which prohibits the use of cookies without informed, prior consent from web users. I've been trying to research to see whether or not this will affect Google Analytics. The Directive seems to be designed to prevent behavioural tracking, rather than web stats, but after reading the directive (with no law experience) I'm fairly confused by what will be prohibited. If anyone has any thoughts on the matter, I'd be very grateful! 🙂

Is it still possible in certain industries
To take a site from no where to the top of google in some of the top industries such as Gambling and Finance. I am a never say never type entrepreneur and say yes the logic is there as with all SEO to break into it. How do you feel the internet will shape up in say 10 years time will we see less of the smaller guys take on the world with the larger keywords.
