Are mutiple parts (volumes) of an article bad for SEO?
-
If i have a lengthy article which I decide to split into two separate articles E.g part 1 and part 2 but I target the same keyword in both articles, is this bad from an SEO point of view?
For example, if I publish an article about 'healthy snacks ideas' and call the first article 'Healthy snack ideas part 1' and the second article 'Healthy snacks ideas part 2' in order to differentiate between them, would these two articles effectively just compete against one another? Is using part 1 and part 2 in article titles bad practice?
Essentially what I am wondering is should you never ever have more than one article that is targetting the same keywords or should I just target slightly different keywords for each article even if they are very closely related?

Personally, I don't like long pages of endless text, tend to be over-faced and move on. I much prefer something broken into bite-size chunks.
However, you can't argue with the masses - I can't imagine reading a camera review on DP Review that is 14 pages long, but then all on one page!
There should be no SEO downside whichever way you go, as long as the article is good.

I would look at going for one long page if I were you, that way you are not in danger of competing with yourself to rank for keywords. From my own experience I have seen users prefer one long article. I have also found that as one article is more content rich so it has generated more long tail traffic, partly due to the page becoming stronger, as all links that it has gained point at one page rather than being spread between two - making them stronger in the eyes of the search engines (higher Page Authority for one page article).
Also I have seen where multi-page articles have been put into practice and the second part of the article has been the one that has ranked the highest, not ideal in my opinion.
Here is a recent Q&A that will give you more input as to whether to split your page or not - http://www.seomoz.org/q/determining-when-to-break-a-page-into-multiple-pages
-
I haven't come across it but I don't see why it would be bad for SEO, if anything you should be rewarded because you are making things easy for the user.
Just as long as you follow the usual SEO techniques, i.e. no duplicate content I think you should be fine.

Supplementing Moz's Keyword Explorer When Volume Has "No Data?"
Many of the keywords for which I'm trying to find volume information in Moz's Keyword Explorer have "no data." This makes it difficult to determine the value of the keyword compared to other options. What tools / techniques do you use as a stand-in for this data?

New Limits to Adwords Search Volume Data..Oh my!
Has anyone experienced the recent limiting of data in the Google Adwords keyword tools -- Monthly average search volume? The average monthly search volume data used to be nuanced and precise. When searching for the average monthly volume for a keyword like "Chicago Heating and Colling Companies"now results in the vague 1K-10K . Does anyone know what it will take to get more specific ranges? I am new to AdWords and creating my first campaign. Thanks!

Is my SEO company a scam?
Hello, I am rather new to online marketing and because of this employ an SEO company to help with improving my ranking. They have now been working with me for around 6 months and I have not seen an increase in the traffic to my site - in fact it is at it all time low. Yesterday I only had 4 visitors for example. They keep ensuring me it will take time, and show me reports on how my keywords are ranking, and some appear to be doing okay, but I would have thought traffic would have improved by now. Why I am a little suspicious of this company is they only seem to be doing back linking. They have done very little, if anything, with on-page optimisation, so much so that I tried to do this all myself following Moz guidelines etc. But even this has seen very little improvement. I would have thought that as a paid SEO company, they may see that something is clearly not working. Perhaps the wrong keywords? Suggest a different tactic? I write blogs posts, am social media active but feeling very discourage with it all as seeing very little results. I continuously hear about scams and get new emails every day saying "we have analysed your site and all these things are wrong... pay us $XXX and we will get you traffic" but who can you trust and how can you find an affordable way to gain traffic as a very small business. Would be great to get feedback from anyone who may know what is going on. Thanks Astrid

How can we stop an article ranking so highly?
We secured an article on national newspaper site for a client which now ranks number one for its own branded search term. Since we secured the article (over two years ago) the client has changed the direction of its business so the article is now no longer relevant and is actually causing a lot of trouble for the client. When people search for their business the article is telling readers one thing when their business actually does something else. How can we stop this article ranking so highly?

How do I use Google Keyword in onsite seo?
Hello to all, I wanted to ask if I am doing this correctly. So I own a Bernese mountain dog website I used the google keyword research tools to view keyword ideas. I listed my results below. So my questions are: 1 - Bernese Mountain Dog Puppies (the keyword) blow away the other keywords. So when you are looking at your sites most popular keywords, do you make the most popular keyword your homepage? Because it gets the most link juice? Like would you build the homepage around the best keyword instead of branding - like the company name etc? Or does it matter? Basically just as long as you use it for one page? 2 - When you have keywords that have parts of other keywords, is it safe to use the longer keyword because it has parts of the other phrases? Such as Bernese mountain dog puppies for sale is a part of Bernese mountain dog puppies for sale in Colorado. So if you use bernese mountain dog puppies for sale in Colorado, it will also hit the bernese mountain dog puppies for sale? ( without the In Colorado) What type of strategy would you use for this type of situation? 3- Lastly, and thank you for your time - I watched a video from a grey hat seo guy. He said to take a keyword or phrase like say Colorado home builders, create a page like example.com/Colorado-home-builders/ Then make you h1 tag - The Best Colorado Home Builders Add The Best Colorado home builders to your meta description and one more time in your h2 tag Then create a Bold, and italic The Best Colorado Home Builders in your unique content paragraphs. So my question is - is this grey hat and bad? Or the standard? I do not want to get hit for over optimizing. So just wanted to ask you opinion first. In the end, I truly thank you for taking the time to read my questions. I appreciate everyone's help and greatly appreciate your knowledge. So my results look like this | bernese mountain dog puppies | 590 | Low | $0.45 | 1% | |

| bernese mountain dog puppies for sale | 90 | High | $0.42 | 9% | |
| bernese mountain dogs | 90 | Low | $0.37 | 0% | |
| bernese mountain dog puppies for sale in colorado | 30 | Medium | $0.76 | 0% | |
| bernese mountain dog breeders in colorado | 20 | Medium | $0.32 | 0% | |
| bernese mountain dogs colorado | 40 | Low | $0.08 | 0% | |

SEO for ecommerce site. Where do I start?!
Hello! New pro member here that's very excited yet overwhelmed about working with a large e-commerce site for photo gear. I've already read the SEOMoz beginner's guide, but we have about 4k products online, and I've been researching and researching but am feeling more confused than ever on where to start. It seems that most SEO help articles I read are based around optimizing a couple of keywords for a site that provides a general service, but where do you begin when you have 4k products? I've been trying to start with the products that get the most traffic and least conversions. But even then it's overwhelming--which keywords do I choose? And with products like Polaroid film where we have several similar products--how do I know which keyword to use for each product page? This is a hugely broad question, but ANY advice on where to start would be so insanely appreciated. I'm a one-woman show completely new to this world. I can't wrap my head around optimizing certain product pages, and keyword research is even more baffling. Any articles you've found helpful? Or advice? I'm floundering!

Weekly on-page SEO report problem
I just got my first on-page SEO report, and only got report on 3 random keywords in my list of keywords. Why don't I get a report on the other keywords? Is there a certain reason for why I get only those specific keywords? Thanks in advance.

Local SEO: By city, by multiple cities, or by region?
My client is a kitchen remodeling company in Sterling, Virginia and is trying to rank well in local results. I am struggling with keyword selection mostly because I am still learning about local SEO. The city the company is located is Sterling, however their business comes from several other close by cities like Reston, Herndon, and Fairfax (Nobody lives in Sterling so they don't care too much about owning that in search engines). Is the right strategy: 1. Choosing one city and focusing on that (kitchen remodeling in reston, VA) 2. Optimizing for multiple cities (kitchen remodeling, reston, herndon, fairfax...) 3. Optimizing for an entire region (kitchen remodeling, northern virginia) I know it's hard to answer this with little information but gut reactions would be appreciated. I am a new SEOmoz member so excuse me if this question is too specific for this forum. I'm still getting a feel for the community. Thanks! Sean
