SEO moz poor rankings reporting

How are we supposed to send ranking reports to clients if the rankings are constantly reporting false metrics
This is not the first time this has happened, but the rankings are WAAAAAAY off. What is the point of reporting rankings that are not accurate? What is the possible cause of this. Is there a solution? What is SEOmoz doing to improve their ranking programs.
Our client actually ranked #2 for "northern Virginia HVAC contractors" when moz had us not in the top 50!
How are we supposed to bank on information that is so consistently unreliable?

Hi Scott,
You can absolutely rely on the tools. It is 100% accurate. The problem was that you are tracking a specific subdomain and your ranking for that keyword is not in that subdomain.
You could resetup the campaign as a root domain campaign as a catch all. That will get you anything off of that domain regardless of whether it's www, blog, store, or whatever.
I know it's frustrating and seeing your ranking suddenly drop off can be worrisome to say the least.
What you can do in the immediate is to set a 301 redirect from http://ssihvac.com to http://www.ssihvac.com and once Google catches up with that, you'll likely see your ranking position returned to the www without having to archive your campaign or anything like that.
You really don't want the www and non-www to resolve independently anyway, so that's something I recommend in general anyway.
I hope that helps.
Cheers,
Joel. -
This is Scott with IWS --
I see what you are saying...would you say we can rely on the reporting we get to be accurate then, or are you suggesting we double check using the keyword tool or a third party tool?
I hope you can see that i as the owner, find this a bit cumbersome to review when my SEO team presents me with things that don't reflect reality...and this is not the only time this has happened. . I don't know why Google changed things either...but its important to me to get accurate rankings for all our customers without having to use multiple tools. We manage many clients so we really planned on your system being our solution...if you have another recommendation please let me know. Thanks. And thanks for such a good reply.

Hi there,
Thanks for the question! I hope I can get you taken care of here.
I took a look at your screenshots and at your campaign and see that until August 14th you were ranking for www.ssihvac.com at which point Google stopped ranking you for that and started ranking you for ssihvac.com without the www.
The reason you don't see that number on your campaign is that it's setup for ONLY www.ssihvac.com and will consider anything outside of that subdomain to be an external page.
Why Google switched up your URL, I wish I could tell you. Is it possible there was some rebranding efforts at the time?
I will also note that if you look at the keyword in your campaign you will see your site listed at number two. See this screenshot: http://www.screencast.com/t/tPQlhv81sJ
I hope that clears that up.
Cheers,
Joel. -
Agree with the other posters on contacting support, and share your frustrations. SEOmoz is an awesome product on the whole, but we actually don't use SEOmoz's rank tracking for this, and other reasons (poor exportable reporting, only tracks weekly, doesn't track various other keyword factors, doesn't plot competitors).
Maybe some day they'll get all of the above polished, then plot the ranks against MozCast. Can only hope!

I check the positions of keywords, too with IBP software, that is sure that is in real time.

Hope you get this sorted out guys, but you are probably going to get a faster answer if you create a support request and let someone take a look for you.

Moz is incorrect
So i have had my latest crawl, and the keyword report is showing that using google.co.uk i have some keywords not within the top 50 - i have just done a spot check (coping & pasting) direct from Moz to google.co.uk and out of 4 i have checked 1 keyword i am number 4 and 1 keyword i am page 3 - therefore within the top 50. This leads me to believe that there is something wrong with Moz - here is 1 example "land in the cayman islands" i am showing in moz as not in the top 50 when i am showing on Google as number.4

Rank Report Not Updating
The ranking tool indicates that a new rank report will be generated every Tuesday. My last report was on November 15th. It is now November 25th. It missed last week. Should I report something wrong or is this normal? How do I keep it updating on a weekly basis like it's supposed to? I checked in settings to see if I had done anything wrong and couldn't find anything. Regards, Dino

New on SEO Moz and need help regarding panda recover.
Hello Dear Members, I am a new member to not only seomoz but to the SEO World as well. I was learning and implementing SEO from the last 5,6 months and got my website on Google.com page 1. I was quite happy with all the results. I recently got adsense approved on my site and was quite happy with the earnings as well. Unfortunately the most recent Panda update has effected most of my SEO efforts I was doing from the last 5,6 months. My rankings are effected a lot and same with my earnings from adsense. My rankings are effected in this manner. A couple of keywords that were in top 3 spots (1st page Google.com) are now at 7,8 (1st page Google.com) position. There are 3,4 pages that were previously on 5,6 spot (1st page Google.com) are now on 15, 16 spot (2nd page Google.com). Now I want to ask what tools from seomoz can help me to regain my lost positions in Google? Secondly what type of strategy (backlinks) can help me to regain the lost rankings? Best Regards Sam

Why are SEOmoz Pro Keyword Ranking reports different between two 301-linked URLs?
Hi, My main domain is www.dancenut.com. I have this 301 URL redirected to www.dancenut.com/boston/. I set up an SEOmoz Pro campaign for each of these URLs in order to see if they were being treated differently in any way. In most cases the report results are identical, or the small differences are understandable. However, there is one big difference between the two sets of campaign reports. In the Keyword Ranking reports, the data for the Bing and Yahoo! reports are identical, but the data for the Google reports are dramatically different. Out of 21 keywords, 9 are listed in the top 50 for www.dancenut.com, but only 2 are listed in the top 50 for www.dancenut.com/boston/ (the specific positions are the same for the 2 keywords that are listed for both). Does this make any sense? Could the SEOmoz Pro data be wrong? If not, then I'm suspicious that Google may not be interpreting the 301 redirect properly. I don't think this could be fully explained by a 1-10% reduction in link juice due to the 301 because I have one keyword for which my site ranks #1 in Google, Bing, and Yahoo! with www.dancenut.com, but it doesn't even rank in the top 50 in Google with www.dancenut.com/boston/. And why would these differences only exist for Google? Any insight would be much appreciated! Andrew

Pagerank Update - Decreased Rankings
After the PR update the other day, some of my domain names gained PR (from 0 to 3 or 4) but the kw rank they held previously dropped off the map. Its clear the term pagerank is ill defined. Does anyone have any insight into this?
