Need Help: Trouble With Website and Analytics
-
Hey all,
I have a client who I have been having the WORST time getting traffic and ranked for relevant keywords. I've tried so many things and have yet to see much progress after about 9 months.
Site is mgmcdallas.com. I realized something REALLYY weird with this site a couple weeks ago.
The business has a Dallas, TX address and really only services the Dallas/Fort Worth metro area.
They recently started getting some of referral traffic from yelp.com/biz_redir. Weirdly, they've also been getting more sales calls and more salespeople filling out their contact form.
Take January for example, they had 164 sessions and 119 of those were from this yelp referral. They DON'T advertise with Yelp, or get traffic from Yelp anywhere in Texas. You can see from below screenshot that they are all coming from California.
I've had our <acronym title="Search Engine Optimization">SEO</acronym> and developer look into and we can't figure out what's happening. Any thoughts?
-
Bump. Just curious if anyone has any new ideas on this? We still have not found a solution.
-
Hmm. Yeah, I will add the CAPTCHA to see if it helps. I'll also see if I can add them to no-call lists. But it's very frustrating for the client because he is getting A LOT of sales people calling him daily now b/c of this issue. He just so happens to remind me almost daily about it.
It hasn't just been happening for a couple weeks. It's been happening for about 6-7 weeks now.
-
Honestly I would not worry about it to much, their yelp page has a lot of positive reviews so it would hurt them to change that. You could try adding a CAPTCHA onto the contact form on the site to dissuade sales people and stop auto fill bots, but that could inconvenience potential customers so you will need to weigh the pros and cons. You could try adding their number to no-call lists to see if that helps, but I don't think that there will be a ton of calls in the long run, things like this tend to happen a bunch for a week or two then drop off.

They haven't really lost a bunch of traffic. They didn't have a lot to begin with. They have no penalties according to GWT and other tools.
-
Sorry about that. I think I got the image added properly. You can see that all the traffic comes from different cities in California.
I just logged into their biz.yelp.com page and they had a big increase in traffic to their Yelp profile in January-current.
I have disables bots in the view settings. Definitely looks like they are selling their information to sales people somehow. Any way to get rid of this without deleting their Yelp page?
-
Have you ran it through the Panguin tool to check and see if they have gotten any penalties? Did they have traffic and lose it? Or just never have traffic?
-
Ben,
Your image did not link properly. As I cannot see the data, does the majority of the CA traffic come from one or a few places that are not major cities? Have you disabled bots in the view settings? It seems to me that there might be a bot crawling Yelp listings within that area collecting and verifying phone numbers to sell.

Using the Onpage Grader for Local Business websites
Hey Guys, Curious how people use the onpage grader for optimizing pages for local businesses specifically, I'm interested if people use keywords with or without a geo modifier since adding a geo modifier will prevent more natural writing to increase the score. If you don't use a geo modifier do you have some general rules of the city that needs to be in the H1 and first paragraph etc. Any tips for using the page grader for local businesses would be great Thanks!

How to be above the product maker website
Hello, I am the exclusive reseller of a product in Switzerland. However, when I type the name of the product the maker of the product appears 1 st on google with its website instead of my website that ends in .ch ? I appear nowhere when I type the product name and my website has been online for more than 6 months. How can I make sure I appear 1 st above the maker of that product ? The only place I appear is in the right side with the adresse and phone number but I would like to appear in the search results (blue links). Thank you,

Hreflang | Should I implement hreflang for regional targeted but - different content of websites?
Hello, I'm implementing hreflang for my e-commerce websites which have different languages and do serve different content based on location. Currently, I'm only using hreflang for for alternate language (fr-fr, fr-be, fr-ma, ...). I wonder if it might be better or if I am allowed to add other version of my websites (IT, ES, DE,... ) even if those version are serving specific content for these specific location. So, the content (products) of Germany is different of the product of the other countries. Here is an example : www.mywebsite.com/apple-phone (selling apple phone for US with product avalaible only in US). www.mywebsite.de/apple-phone (selling apple phone for Germany with product avalaible only in Germany, the available models might be different from US and other websites). www.mywebsite.it/apple-phone (selling apple phone for Italy with product avalaible only in Italy, the available models might be different from US and other websites). www.mywebsite.es/apple-phone (selling apple phone for Spain with product avalaible only in Spain, the available models might be different from US and other websites). www.mywebsite.pt/apple-phone (selling apple phone for Portugal with product avalaible only in Portugal, the available models might be different from US and other websites).

Do I need to change my country og:locale to en_AE
Hi MOZ, I have a site that is aimed at the English speaking market of the United Arab Emirates. The language tag is currently set to lang="en-GB" and the og:locale also set to en_GB. The domain is a .com and aimed at the whole world. Should I be trying to target en-AE and en_AE for these tags instead of GB?

Subdomain for ticketing of a client website (how to solve SEO problems caused by the subdomain/domain relationship)
We have a client in need of a ticketing solution for their domain (let's call it www.domain.com) which is on Wordpress - as is our custom ticket solution. However, we want to have full control of the ticketing, since we manage it for them - so we do not want to build it inside their original Wordpress install. Our proposed solution is to build it on tickets.domain.com. This will exist only for selling and issuing the tickets. The question is, is there a way to do this without damaging their bounce rate and SEO scores?
Local Website Optimization | | Adam_RushHour_Marketing
Since customers will come to www.domain.com, then click the ticketing tab and land on tickets.domain.com, Google will see this as a bounce. In reality, customers will not notice the difference as we will clone the look and feel of domain.com Should we perhaps have the canonical URL of tickets.domain.com point to www.domain.com? And also, can we install Webmaster Tools for tickets.domain.com and set the preferred domain as www.domain.com? Are these possible solutions to the problem, or not - and if not, does anyone else have a viable solution? Thank you so much for the help.0 -
2 clients. 2 websites. Same City. Both bankruptcy attorneys. How to make sure Google doesn't penalize...
Hi Moz'ers! I am creating 2 new websites for 2 different bankruptcy attorneys in the same city. I plan to use different templates BUT from the same template provider. I plan to host with the same hosting company (unless someone here advises me not to). The content will be custom, but similar, as they both practice bankruptcy law. They have different addresses, as they are different law firms. My concern is that Google will penalize for duplicate content because they both practice the same area of law, in the same city, hosting the same, template maker the same, and both won't rank. What should I do to make sure that doesn't happen? Will it be enough that they have different business names, address, and phone numbers? Thanks for any help!!

Need advice on direction to go with site
I am taking over this site and redoing it all over. I believe that google may have penalized the site because the site doesn't show up in the SERPS, but will show under a google search (site:prosplumbingsanjoseca.com). I am just asking for your opinions on what I should do to correct the issues with this site and get back into the SERPS.

Is this an example of bad doorway pages or perfectly fine and helping users?
I'm asking because I want to do something similar. http://bit.ly/1puGXJu Imagine hundreds of pages like this, with the city names switched out. Since the inventory is different on each page, due to different inventory in different cities, are these pages not considered doorway pages and Google will probably be fine with them?
