Video SEO Markup Test
-
Hey Everyone,
I'm trying to get a video marked up on my (test) website and it is not working. I was hoping someone around here could lend a hand.
the post is www.zachsemago.com/?p=28
This is my first ever markup attempt. I assume I just put the markup that applies in the appropriate place in the wordpress post. I thought I had it setup right, and the google rich snippet testing tool told me it extracted some video data. I chose to rank for something without competition so I targeted "how to buy a car on jupiter, mars". The post shows up #1 for that term and some other related ones, but no video.
I thought I had covered all my bases, can someone please take a peek and let me know if I'm screwing up somewhere?
FYI, I don't have a video sitemap operating. Of the articles I read, it seemed a video sitemap was not mandatory. But regardless my brain has turned to mush on the subject so if I should/shouldn't use one pleas tell!
Thanks

Thanks Phil. I almost gave up on this question!
Via another article of yours, I've been able to (I believe) correctly upload a video Sitemap through Wistia. Hopefully this will add another signal to Google to rank the video. Who knows...I'll let you know if I see anything cool.

Hey Ryan,
I'm afraid there's no way you're going to get a rich snippet for that page on that site - certainly not without a video sitemap. For a video to be indexed on Mark-up alone (and even with a sitemap to some extent) the site does need to be relatively strong and the page clearly quite relevant. Unfortunately, this means testing on a WP blog like that won't be good enough.
If you have a stronger, bigger site you can play with - then i's recommend creating a random page on that and giving it a go.
Cheers,
Phil.

Is getting views to an infographic through Imgur beneficial to SEO?
I'm considering posting infographics to Imgur in addition to hosting them on my site in an effort to leverage Reddit a bit more this year. My concern is that, if all goes well, we'll get a ton of views through Reddit to Imgur, maybe a couple clickthroughs to the site, and links to (probably) the Imgur page. I don't see that Imgur gives your profile a followed link, so how would any of this help SEO. I assume it would, because respected guys like John Dougherty espouse the benefits of Reddit, but I can't see how and I need to justify the effort to my department head.

Question For Those Who Record Their Own Videos
Hi, This is a quick question for those of you that record your own videos. Currently we record videos using a pretty middle of the road sony HD camcorder. We have some good lighting equipment and mic's etc but I always think that it could be a lot better. I would love to know what kind of recording equipment other use. Someone had said to me to use a DSLR camera with lapel mic which is great and obviously the camera can be used for still photos as well. I am just interested to know if others use that configuration or if people just use your average HD camcorder with good mics etc. Thanks

Video SEO, should I do what Roger does?
As per http://www.seomoz.org/blog/hosting-and-embedding-for-video-seo I want to rank with a rich snippet and improve my domain's overall ranking. So I am going to ignore YouTube and use Vimeo Pro (using old embed code). I will also submit a video XML sitemap and implement schema markup. Gotcha. Now let's check this strategy with what SEOmoz is doing. Let's take 5 Steps to Facebook Advertising - Whiteboard Friday it was uploaded onto the SEOmoz blog on 29 March 2013. Then on 4 April 2013 it was uploaded onto YouTube. As at 7 April 2013 (PST) I am not seeing the latest SEOmoz Whiteboard Friday Evolution of the Local Algorithm - Whiteboard Friday posted on YouTube. SEOmoz blog has a person written transcription, YouTube has an automatic transcript. There is a link to the SEOmoz comments below the YouTube Video. Cricky! They've gone all YouTube. Stop the boat. Or should I? My assumption is that SEOmoz is big enough so that it is willing to risk losing a few links to their YouTube webpages. Indeed they delay posting the video on YouTube for a week after it has been posted on the SEOmoz blog. What's more it ensures that there is a very good transcript on their blog. Top that off with comments (and I assume video sitemap and schema) and it is happy it will gain more from the traffic generated from the YouTube community than the potential loss of links to its domain, forgoing potential domain authority increases and resulting traffic. So Roger, I'm a little boat not a SEOmoz battleship cruiser, should I do what you do and wait for a week before I put my videos on YouTube? Or avoid the dangerous currents of YouTube stealing my domain authority and ignore YouTube all together?

Videos impact on SEOmoz On Page Analysis
For several years we've heard that Google rewards pages that include videos with significantly higher page ranks, however I do not see video incorporated into the On Page Analysis. One of our competitors ranks 1st-3rd on a several keywords while the On Page Analysis tool grades them as an F for the same keywords. This competitor uses video more than any of the others, and has far more YouTube subscribers. I suspect video plays a role in their excellent SERP. Is there a video evaluation tool within SEOmoz? If not, is one coming, or is there a reason why it would not be appropriate? Does anyone have suggestions for incorporating the use of videos in SEO evaluations and recommendations? Thank you, Michael

Best practice using Video to increase website pagerank?
Goal: Leverage videos to get links and traffic back to website not video hosting platform site (e.g. YouTube) to generate website leads **Issue: ** If we place a video on a website using video YouTube embed code and video sitemap for the crawlers to index our video DOES show up in search results BUT that link goes back to YouTube. Great for increasing views on YouTube but not increasing link popularity for client website. Question: What are recommendations / best practice for SEO (such as using another player like Viddler, etc.) that will get video results from search engines back to the website? We want to leverage videos to build links and generate leads to client site.

We are using meta data on the Brightcove videos We have added a video sitemap and submitted it to GWT - but after several months, our videos are still not showing up Any ideas how we can address this problem and better optimize our videos for the search engines? While we post some of our videos on Youtube, we use Brightcove when we embed and publish the videos on our site

What is the best way to host a video on my site from a SEO perspective?
Hi, we are in the process of creating a video about a topic that is highly relevant for our customers. Once it is completed we want to offer the video to our customers so that they can embed it into their own websites for free. What is the best way to do this and still receive maximum SEO juice? If we use a a video service like youtube or vimeo, then the link will go to vimeo or youtube and not our site. One thing we are thinking about is asking our customers to link to our site in return for embedding the video, but if there is an automatic solution then this would be a lot better. Any tips will be highly appreciated! If you have anyother tips regarding video content then the same of course! Many thanks! Daan

Local SEO Help!
At the minute 12 out of my 16 clients are Local SEO clients. I'm new to SEO Moz and still only at the low level subscription which gives me 5 campaigns. It seems to me (and I may be wrong) that SEO Moz is more suited for my clients that want to rank nationally. SEO Moz seems like it might be a little overkill for using up a campaign for local seo. I'm going to stay with SEO Moz as it is great for the few clients I have that want to rank nationally. So my question is does anyone know of a similar company to SEO Moz that focuses soley on local seo? Does anyone have experience with Bright Local? How about shedding some light on what reporting software is good for LOCAL SEO? http://www.brightlocal.com/seo-tools/ Thanks
