Adding UTM Tags to business directories?
-
Hi,
I'm wondering what everyone's thoughts are on adding UTM tags to your business directories such as google my business, yelp, yellow pages ect.
Would it be beneficial in sorting the data in GA? That way I can easily see which directories are performing the best.
Thanks!

Thanks! Could you expand on "reference your referral traffic" not sure exactly what you mean.
Will this work for multiple business locations within a directory. I like the idea of being able to see exactly which location pages are performing well and which aren't. Especially when each location has slightly different information due to the location's features.

Hi there
You could just reference your referal traffic in GA, which is extremely detailed and can help you pinpoint directory performance. Tagging URLs is still exceptable, but you run the risk of inconsistencies and bloating your analytics (lowercase, uppercase, mispellings, etc.). I would use UTMs for advertising, content distribution, and actual campaigns, but that's just me, especially if the data is available already in referral traffic.
Let me know if this helps or if you have any other questions! Good luck!

Thanks a lot! Was just on Annie's website just before! Great articles. I'm surprised there's not more mention of business directories and UTMs on the web.

Absolutely YES! Just make sure you match the mediums to the way Google would interpret those referrals, so you don't screw up your Channel reports This is especially critical for social sites like G+ (and you should also be tagging bios on Twitter, Facebook etc.) Annie Cushing has an excellent discussion on just this issue:
Hope that helps?

Clicks, impressions, CTR, & position decreased after adding meta descriptions
A website that I was working on did not have meta descriptions, had poorly optimized meta titles, and URL structure. I created optimized descriptions and titles for each page. I also updated the URL structure of select pages and created 301 redirects. Since I did this I noticed that my clicks, impressions, CTR, and position all decreased on Google Search Console (I just setup Search Console so I only have 1-week of data). Traffic on Google Analytics is about the same. Is this normal?

Query on Implementing Product Impression Via Tag Manager?
Hi All, I have to implement Product Impression tracking as per this - https://developers.google.com/tag-manager/enhanced-ecommerce#product-impressions but In our product listing page we show 33 products in total. If we need to track the product impression of only those products which are visible currently in the screen. If we have 3 products in one row, then there should be 3 product impressions and when we do 2nd scroll then again 6 product impression and so on. How can we implement this? In this guide - https://developers.google.com/tag-manager/enhanced-ecommerce#product-impressions nothing mention like such things. In my case we I scroll the page on 1st scroll only 33 impression fall down even though I am able to see only 3 products. Hope you understood what I mean?

Google Tag Manager chrome plugin to diagnose Analytics issues
Hi I've just used Google Tag Manager chrome plugin to look at possible analytics issues on a clients site and it has reported that its Analytics ID is being tracked twice. 1 is Universal and the other is Universal Asynchronous And when i click the question mark next to the 'Where to Optimise' info in GTM this page is displayed with teh following info highlighted: https://developers.google.com/analytics/devguides/collection/gajs/asyncMigrationExamples ga.js is a legacy library. If you are starting a new implementation we recommend you use the latest version of this library, analytics.js. For exisiting implementations, learn how to migrate from ga.js to analytics.js. Since both versions seem to be on there surely i dont need to migrate but just delete the old non-asynchronous version ? Or do i need do anything else or additional ? All Best Dan

Google Tag Manager for cross-domain tracking
Anybody experience with setting up Google Tag Manager to contain the Analytics script including cross domain tracking? We have a marketingwebsite .com / .com.br and an application running in a subdomain, but have always had some difficulties in getting the cross domain tracking working. Would be great to be able to exchange some experience with fellow Mozzers.

Google Analytics - Adding a sub-domain
Hi I have a google analytics query.
Reporting & Analytics | | Niki_1
I have a main site with a google analytics tag and I have 2 forms that sit on a subdomain with a different GA code. As I would like to measure end to end tracking, I would like the same GA code on the subdomain. What is the best way for me to implement this? Would I need to make some changes to the GA code that sits on the main site or can I add the the GA code from the main site onto the subdomain? Thanks0 -
Re-Launched Website: Developer Fogot to Remove noindex tags.
Our company's website has maintained decent rankings for the last 12 years we've been in business for our primary keywords. We recently had our website rebuilt from the ground up, and the developers left the noindex tags on all of our 400+ pages when we launched it. I didn't catch the error for 6 days. During which time, I used the Fetch feature in Google, submitting a site-wide fetch, as well as manual submissions for our top 100 URLs . In addition, every page that was indexed previously had a 301 set up for it, which was pointing to a destination with a noindex.

I caught the error today, and the developer removed the tags. Does anyone have any experience with a situation similar to this? In the SERPs, we are still ranking at this moment, and it's displaying our old URLs, and they are 301 redirecting just fine. But, what happens now? For 6 full days, we told Google not to index any of our pages, while also using the Fetch feature, contradicting ourselves.
Any words of wisdom or advice as to what I can do at this point to avoid potential fall out? Thanks0 -
IP address changed, subdomains added - how will affect?
Hello, Two weeks ago we have changed IP address of our website, also we've added new subdomains for static content (like img.domain.com & js.domain.com) and changed the links on the site accordingly. The old IP is also working and the old links are accessible too. For some reason, since the change, we see a SE (google) traffic constant drop everyday. I've read only Google's support (http://support.google.com/webmasters/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=34437) that such change shouldn't affect the ranking anyhow. On the other hand I've consulted with SEO people and was told that such change may affect in the close new feature (for couple of weeks) and then bring the ranking back. I would like to hear another opinion, I want to get back to our board with approved answers. Please advice. Thanks.
