Best way to optimize a website for local search today?
-
A real estate agent client has had a website for years, which he optimized to position himself as a national real estate expert (to get more TV and media exposure). Now he wants to be found for a more local real estate term, such as Westchester ny real estate.
Should he add a page to his site that's focused on Westchester real estate, or would Google view that as spammy? Should he update older blog posts with relevant, useful content about Westchester? Any best practices and suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Hi there,
Yes, definitely! Don't forget to update not just content, but also titles, H1's and other H's - so Google can index them with the local info. Also, make sure you update your contact details and use identical details for all social accounts and directories. You can add a new article that is more location focused and add a map. Don't forget Google My Business - optimise it and make sure you have your website link there.
If you are coming with fresh content, I would recommend researching long-tail keywords or the most frequent search queries via Keyword Planner. Try multiplying keyword lists, i.e. generic terms x location (town, area, state etc.). This should give you a good idea, and I would start there. Publish regularly. All this will work for you!
Hope this helps. Good luck!
Katarina

URL keyword separator best practice
Hello. Wanted to reach out see what the consensus is re-keyword separators So just taken on a new client and all their urls are structured like /buybbqpacks rather than buy-bbq-packs - my understanding is that it comes down to readability, which influences click through, rather than search impact on the keyword. So we usually advise on a hyphen, but the guy's going to have to change ALLOT of pages & setup redirects to change it all wasn't sure if it was worth it? Thanks! Stu

Website view diffrent in Chrome than FireFox and IE
Hi everyone, I have a quick question about our WordPress webpage InternetNearMe.com/xfinity-Internet. The site is still a work in progress, but I'm starting to notice that when viewing the page in FireFox or Internet explorer, there is a large white space at the top of the page that is not there when you view it in Chrome. This is most likely because we used to have two graphics in that space that we have since removed. I cleared the Cache hoping that would solve problem but it has not. i've included screenshots of the different browsers below. Any suggestions? Thank you! CHROME

How to optimize for a product by two names
So let us assume I am selling an item on my website and it comes in a large array of varieties. Let us also assume that this item is commonly referred to by two different names. (i.e. Cover & Case, Car & Automobile, Notepad & Notebook) Both of these names that are used, in regards to this product, have, for the sake of argument here, the exact same search volume. I want to make sure that I rank for both terms. In my Title Tags I am currently thinking about the following methodology to help that cause. "GE Motors Super Fast and Awesome Car / Automobile" "Ghostwriter Kids Notebook / Notepad" "Super Soft Pillow Cover / Case" Notice I have the space in between the words and the / but my question is if this is necessary or not? What is Google's policy on how they view that / ? Can I do this and still have Google see it as two different words? "GE Motors Super Fast and Awesome Car/Automobile" "Ghostwriter Kids Notebook/Notepad" "Super Soft Pillow Cover/Case" Apologies if this is a fairly basic question but cannot seem to find this information.

Too Many Links On Internal Search Pages
A client has a too many link warning being flagged in SEOmoz. The problem is that most of the pages on the site are lists of tickets for an event etc. Is there a good way to fix the site from having too many links on pages like this http://www.easyseat.com/venue/yankee-stadium-tickets-for-sale.aspx when the user experience requires a long list of links so people can find an event?
