Moving an entire section of a website to a new URL
-
Hello there,
I currently have a website that offers services to both domestic and business clients.Currently these are hosted on a single URL, then split out .com/business and .com/domestic
We're going to be moving the .com/business structure and content to an entirely new URL which will be dedicated to only the business part of the business.
This will also mean a change in the branding of the existing content as the new URL will come under the name of the parent company.
My question is two fold:
(1) What's the best way to go about this?
(2) What would be the estimated effect on the traffic?
Many thanks for your help in advance.

To build off of what Kevin has said (which I recommend), I would set up Google Search Console and Bing Webmaster tools (on the current site) and proactively check it post launch of the new site to make sure there are no issues in URL and redirects of pages that you've moved.
Thanks!
John

Hi Craig,
(1) What's the best way to go about this? 301 redirects from .com/business to the new one (good Moz guide).
(2) What would be the estimated effect on the traffic? You may see a slight drop for a limited amount of time (typically around 15%).
Good luck!

Migrated website but Google Analytics still displays old URL's and none new?!
I migrated a website from a .aspx to a .php and hence had to 301 all the old urls to the new php ones. It's been months after and I'm not seeing any of the php pages showing results but I'm still getting results from the old .aspx pages. Has any one had any experience with this issue or knows what to do? Many thanks,

What's the new "Value" column in GWT about?
I was checking out our GWT this morning and noticed a new column on the far right that was labeled "Value". Currently, there isn't anything of value (no pun intended) listed just $Nan. Anyone else see this or know what it might be? 014pThY

URL String Tracking Question--Need help!
I am doing some research for a freelance project and found a URL receiving a decent amount of traffic from search with this url string after the normal page url (xxx.com/credit-card-counseling.aspx?match=e&query=debthelper.com&id=22097628847&id=1810807655) Is this some sort of GA tracking code? Why would it be used on that page to track organic search hits if that happens automatically? Would love some help figuring this out! Thanks,

Phantom urls causing 404
I have a very strange problem. When I run SEOmoz diagnostics on my site, it reveals urls that I never created. It seems to combine two slugs into a new url. For example, I have created the pages http://www.naplesrealestatestars.com/abaco-bay-condos-naples/ and http://www.naplesrealestatestars.com/beachwalk-naples-florida/ and now the url http://www.naplesrealestatestars.com/abaco-bay-condos-naples/beachwalk-naples-florida/ exists in addition to the two I created. There are over 100 of these phantom urls and they all show a 404 error when clicked on or crawled by SEOmoz. Any body know how to correct this?
