Hey there,
I've been through the same struggle with my site, kenumerque, a while back. The spam score was quite high, and I knew it could harm my site's reputation and search engine rankings.
After some digging, I found out that a significant factor contributing to the high spam score was a bunch of poor-quality backlinks pointing to my site. It's essential to ensure the quality of the sites linking back to you because spammy or irrelevant backlinks can negatively impact your site's trustworthiness.
Here's what I did to combat this:
-
Identify the Bad Links: The first step was to get a comprehensive list of all the backlinks pointing to my site. I used tools like Moz, Ahrefs, or Google Search Console to identify these links.
-
Analyze the Quality: Once I had the list, I manually reviewed each link. It's a bit time-consuming, but it's worth it. I looked out for sites that were unrelated to my niche, had poor content, or seemed spammy in nature.
-
Disavow the Links: After shortlisting the bad links, I used the Google Disavow Tool. This tool allows you to tell Google to ignore specific backlinks when considering your site's ranking. Make sure to be careful with this tool; you don’t want to disavow links that could be beneficial to your site.
Within a few weeks, I noticed a significant drop in my site's spam score. It's a continuous process, though. It's essential to keep monitoring your backlinks regularly and act if you notice any suspicious links pointing to your site.
I hope my experience with kenumerque helps you. Remember, quality over quantity always. Good luck!

I would be thankful for your reply

Find all the spam inbound links to your website, you can use Ahrefs or Moz for this. Create a disavow file that includes all the spam links and upload the file to Google here: Google Search Console
The next time your website is crawled, Google will ignore the links you disavowed and hence this will lower your spam score.

I understand that you're worried about your site's spam score, and disavowing harmful links is definitely a positive step. However, it's important to keep in mind that search engines may take some time to update their rankings and reflect these changes. Sometimes, it can take longer than two months to see any change in your spam score. In the meantime, you can work on improving your site's overall quality and content. This can involve ensuring that your website has high-quality and relevant content optimized for your target keywords, making sure that your site is well-structured and easy to navigate, and avoiding any black hat SEO practices. You can also keep an eye on your spam score and other important metrics using tools like Moz or Google Search Console. By doing this, you can track your progress over time and make any necessary adjustments to your SEO strategy. Reducing your site's spam score is usually a gradual process, but by taking a comprehensive approach to your site's overall quality and SEO practices, you can increase your chances of long-term success. To reduce your site's spam score, it is important to monitor your site's backlink profile and identify any low-quality or suspicious links that could be harming your SEO. You can use tools like Moz or Ahrefs to analyze your backlinks and pinpoint any links that may be impacting your spam score.
In addition to monitoring your backlink profile, it is crucial to focus on building high-quality backlinks from reputable sources such as industry influencers, relevant blogs, and online communities related to your niche. This can help improve your site's overall SEO and reduce its spam score.
To further enhance your SEO, ensure that your website's content is optimized for your target keywords and provides valuable information to your audience. This includes creating high-quality content such as blog posts, videos, and infographics that are optimized for search engines. Finally, improving your website's technical SEO can also help reduce your spam score. This involves implementing best practices like optimizing your website's meta tags, ensuring that your website's pages load quickly, and making sure that your website is mobile-friendly. By following these tips, you can improve your site's overall SEO and reduce its spam score over time.Best,

@webnewsobserver Hi, Moz Spam Score at 11% may be a matter of concern for your website.
But there is only one way to reduce this. For that, you have to maintain good-quality backlinks for your website.
One way to do that is to remove spammy backlinks and the other way is to keep making good-quality backlinks so that percentage of bad backlinks becomes less.
The second method is tried and tested and good in the long run as you keep adding good quality backlinks. I reduced spam score of my own website https://bloggingidol.com and yes don't forget to check article recommended by Moz Staff @jocameron

I am using Moz to assess the quality of my site in terms of SEO. Recently, I discovered that my spam score is comparatively high, and following suggestions from others in the forum, I have disavowed the bad links using Google Search Console. However, I don't see any change in the spam score rating even after 2 months.
Please suggest what I should do now to reduce the spam score of my site.

It's helpful, and the most working method is removing the backlink from the unauthorized or spammy web. After removing some backlinks from there google automatically reduce the spam score.

Jo from the Help Team here.
Moz's Spam Score is the percentage of sites with similar features we've found to be penalized or banned by Google. To improve this score I would recommend reading our guide which explains the 27 factors used to make up this score. How long does it take to turn around a 10/17 SPAM score domain?
Hi - Looking at acquiring a domain name that has a great product fit. The problem is it is currently getting a 10/17 Open Site Explorer SPAM score. The existing site for the domain is running Google sponsored link ads and is full of internal pages that link off to these ads. That explains the existing SPAM score. If I acquire the domain I'll throw out the Google ad pages and build instead a site with real valuable content that behaves like a normal site and look at building backlinks etc. My question is, following this approach, how long is it likely to take Google to not see the domain as some Spam factory so it starts getting well positioned SERPs?

How can I get links indexed in Just Discovered Links, or Open site Explorer? (Because it aint Bit.ly or Feedly!)
Dear Moz & Forum, I've been on a bit of a merry-go-round with one of my clients. He knows enough about SEO to ask questions, and one thing he likes is to see the links that we are building inside Open Site Explorer. Now, of course we know that it takes a while for links to show, but that was ok, because we could just plug the links that we've built into a bit.ly link and then they'd show under Just Discovered Links in Open Site Explorer, and then boom, we're happy. It stopped working some time ago, and after the support team were a little unstuck I sent a hopeful tweet to @randfish. Here is the response: https://twitter.com/randfish/status/788412272129347584 The advice to use Bit.Ly was removed swiftly after this! Oops! The current Guidance is here: https://mza.seotoolninja.com/help/guides/research-tools/open-site-explorer/justdiscovered It says: Want to see your new link in the Just-Discovered Links tab? An easy way to start seeing your link in the Just-Discovered section is to have it shared on Twitter and available on Feedly link. Feedly stopped supporting their own link shortner a few years ago. Also, when you share a link from Feedly on twitter it is just the same as sharing a normal tweet, because it shares the standard URL for the site not a link to view on Feedly. Or, maybe these two statements are independant of one another and they should both be done separately? I've done that too! I've also added the feed to recommended feeds inside fresh web explorer and that didn't work either! So, Moz and Help team please help me! How can I get links I've built for clients into Just Discovered Links? Thank you!
