Hey there,
I've been through the same struggle with my site, kenumerque, a while back. The spam score was quite high, and I knew it could harm my site's reputation and search engine rankings.
After some digging, I found out that a significant factor contributing to the high spam score was a bunch of poor-quality backlinks pointing to my site. It's essential to ensure the quality of the sites linking back to you because spammy or irrelevant backlinks can negatively impact your site's trustworthiness.
Here's what I did to combat this:
-
Identify the Bad Links: The first step was to get a comprehensive list of all the backlinks pointing to my site. I used tools like Moz, Ahrefs, or Google Search Console to identify these links.
-
Analyze the Quality: Once I had the list, I manually reviewed each link. It's a bit time-consuming, but it's worth it. I looked out for sites that were unrelated to my niche, had poor content, or seemed spammy in nature.
-
Disavow the Links: After shortlisting the bad links, I used the Google Disavow Tool. This tool allows you to tell Google to ignore specific backlinks when considering your site's ranking. Make sure to be careful with this tool; you don’t want to disavow links that could be beneficial to your site.
Within a few weeks, I noticed a significant drop in my site's spam score. It's a continuous process, though. It's essential to keep monitoring your backlinks regularly and act if you notice any suspicious links pointing to your site.
I hope my experience with kenumerque helps you. Remember, quality over quantity always. Good luck!

I would be thankful for your reply

Find all the spam inbound links to your website, you can use Ahrefs or Moz for this. Create a disavow file that includes all the spam links and upload the file to Google here: Google Search Console
The next time your website is crawled, Google will ignore the links you disavowed and hence this will lower your spam score.

I understand that you're worried about your site's spam score, and disavowing harmful links is definitely a positive step. However, it's important to keep in mind that search engines may take some time to update their rankings and reflect these changes. Sometimes, it can take longer than two months to see any change in your spam score. In the meantime, you can work on improving your site's overall quality and content. This can involve ensuring that your website has high-quality and relevant content optimized for your target keywords, making sure that your site is well-structured and easy to navigate, and avoiding any black hat SEO practices. You can also keep an eye on your spam score and other important metrics using tools like Moz or Google Search Console. By doing this, you can track your progress over time and make any necessary adjustments to your SEO strategy. Reducing your site's spam score is usually a gradual process, but by taking a comprehensive approach to your site's overall quality and SEO practices, you can increase your chances of long-term success. To reduce your site's spam score, it is important to monitor your site's backlink profile and identify any low-quality or suspicious links that could be harming your SEO. You can use tools like Moz or Ahrefs to analyze your backlinks and pinpoint any links that may be impacting your spam score.
In addition to monitoring your backlink profile, it is crucial to focus on building high-quality backlinks from reputable sources such as industry influencers, relevant blogs, and online communities related to your niche. This can help improve your site's overall SEO and reduce its spam score.
To further enhance your SEO, ensure that your website's content is optimized for your target keywords and provides valuable information to your audience. This includes creating high-quality content such as blog posts, videos, and infographics that are optimized for search engines. Finally, improving your website's technical SEO can also help reduce your spam score. This involves implementing best practices like optimizing your website's meta tags, ensuring that your website's pages load quickly, and making sure that your website is mobile-friendly. By following these tips, you can improve your site's overall SEO and reduce its spam score over time.Best,

@webnewsobserver Hi, Moz Spam Score at 11% may be a matter of concern for your website.
But there is only one way to reduce this. For that, you have to maintain good-quality backlinks for your website.
One way to do that is to remove spammy backlinks and the other way is to keep making good-quality backlinks so that percentage of bad backlinks becomes less.
The second method is tried and tested and good in the long run as you keep adding good quality backlinks. I reduced spam score of my own website https://bloggingidol.com and yes don't forget to check article recommended by Moz Staff @jocameron

I am using Moz to assess the quality of my site in terms of SEO. Recently, I discovered that my spam score is comparatively high, and following suggestions from others in the forum, I have disavowed the bad links using Google Search Console. However, I don't see any change in the spam score rating even after 2 months.
Please suggest what I should do now to reduce the spam score of my site.

It's helpful, and the most working method is removing the backlink from the unauthorized or spammy web. After removing some backlinks from there google automatically reduce the spam score.

Hi there,
Jo from the Help Team here.
Moz's Spam Score is the percentage of sites with similar features we've found to be penalized or banned by Google. To improve this score I would recommend reading our guide which explains the 27 factors used to make up this score. You can then look at your site and investigate areas you would like to improve on your site:

How Does Moz Spam Score Increase and Decrease?
Hello Moz Community, I'm facing spam score issue on my site General Queen according to MOZ my website spam score is 30% but anybody can explain how can i decrease it? Firstly I disavowed all low-quality and high spam score links (6 months ago) but my spam score was not decreased after that I created some high-quality and 0 spam score backlinks but still, my spam score is same 😞 According to Moz link explorer, my domain backlinks spam score ratio was below; Stats of 14 July 2019 .. Screen shot is attached 1-30% .. 45.3%

31-60% .. 32.1%
61-100% .. 22.6% Stats of 13 June 2020 .. Screen shot is attached 1-30% .. 65.1%
31-60% .. 30.7%
61-100% .. 4.2% You can see a huge difference in the backlinks spam score in it. But why my spam score is still 30%? Looking forward to your reply. Thanks & Regards, abu1NiB XGLkr5z1 -
Can you do custom date comparisons in Moz?
The only options I see in the tab is weekly and monthly. What if, for example, I wanted to compare stats over a 3 month period? Or compare stats from the same month last year? Is that possible? Or even the stats from the beginning of a campaign? Do you have to manually track them?

Can't make sense of OSE and MOZ.
I checked this site on my OSE and it shows only 7 inbound links a DA of 14 and no social activity whatsoever yet when I check it on Majestic it shows ExternalBacklinks 71 ReferringDomains 20 Referring IPs 19 Referring Subnets 19 . And.. the page is #1 on google search for hypnotherapy michigan. How can it rate so poorly on MOZ, show so much more on majestic and rank so high on google? I thought MOZ data was supposed to be among the best and that top rated pages on google should also rate high on MOZ. here is the site http://hypnotherapy-detroit.com Additionally, when i look at the site, i notice that most of the backlinks are exchanged links and this site's link exchange page isn't even linked from the home page. Now I thought that kind of link exchange game was now discounted by Google. I don't get it. No social pages at all... low page rank... no new content.. so by MOZ standards there is no justification for this page to be anywhere near page one let alone at position #1. Can someone help me make sense of all this?

Spam score question on shortened URLs
Hello, Our agency owns a URL, thejoint.co, specifically for url shortening. There is no content on this url. When we post client's content to social media channels, we use the shortener which 301s to the normal URL. Now, when I use Moz Open Site Explorer to view a client's webpage (http://chiropractorphoenix-thejoint.com/scottsdale/shea/ or chiropractorglendaleca-thejoint.com), I see thejoint.co with a spam score of 9. I'm looking for clarification if this is a real problem in regards to my clients website health? If so, is there any way to keep the shortner without the negative effects? Thank you, P.S. Does this mean Moz's Spam tool also recognizes Bit.ly and other similar services as spam?

How long will it take for the changes we've made to reflect in Moz OSE spam score data?
I signed up for Moz to see the spam flags our site had triggered. As soon as I found out, we worked on it and have been trying to correct our mistakes but it's been more than a month and we've managed to neutralise zero flags. I would appreciate if someone can clarify how long the OSE data takes to refresh. Also, how do you combat the following three specific flags: Ratio of Followed to Nofollowed Subdomains Ratio of Followed to Nofollowed Domains Low Number of Pages Found Crawl only gets a valid response to a small number of pages. Thanks.
