Chrome 79 Update and PDFs
-
I've been taking precautions for the Chrome 79 and 80 updates that will be more strict about serving mixed content.
Quick question: will this impact http:// PDFs on https:// pages?
-
It probably will. Linked or embedded resources (files, PDFs, images) should be accessed via HTTPS rather than HTTP. This remains true, even if your HTTP links then redirect to HTTPS

DO outbound links to manufacture specs, pdfs help or hurt SEO?
I am creating an e-commerce site. All the products have product certification documents/images, PDF docs for instructions, manufacture specs, etc. Should I host all this content or simply link to the original documents and content? What is the best for SEO? Thank you,

Curious what risk we are for Panda 4.2 update
We are curious to know what the MOZ community thinks about our level of unique content on the following profile and if the community thinks we are currently at risk / susceptible for a Panda 4.2 Penalty. We have profiles on over 4,000 colleges (https://www.noodle.com/colleges/coUD/williams-college) some are more populated with content than others. We've already taken action to noindex several hundred thousand profile URLs (https://www.noodle.com/tutoring/tc2d9be/eye-level-center-of-tribeca) which currently publish less original content. Curious how other major vertical search websites approach this problem (a la Glassdoor, Yelp, TripAdvisor, etc) As always - the feedback from this community is priceless!!

With the New Panda update supposedly only weeks away, is it wise to No Index my products I have not had time to rewrite the product descriptions for ?
Hi Mozzers, I read on SEJ yesterday than apparently the Panda update was due in the 2 - 4 weeks. I still have a large of my products which I have not got around to rewriting unique product descriptions for. I know these product descriptions are duplicated on other affiliate sites so do it think it in light of the panda update coming , would it wise to put a NO INDEX Meta tag on these product pages until I get around to rewriting the descriptions. That way, I may not hit my Panda and it will buy me a bit more time. Just an idea , but thought I'd run it by. thanks Pete

Webmaster Tools says that Structured Data is missing (author and updated)
Hi, Google Webmaster Tools tells me, that every blog category and blog post is missing: 'updated' 'author' I find this data under 'Structured Data' => The datatype is 'hentry'. Markup is microformats.org. Is this a problem for SEO? How can I fix this? Best, Robin

Exact Syntax for Canonical to PDFs for Windows Server
Hi There, I have got in my web several PDFs with the same content of the HTML version. Thus I need to set up a canonical for each of them in order to avoid duplicate content. In particular, I need to know how to write the exact syntax for the windows server (web.config) in order to implement the canonical to PDF. I surfed the web but it seems I cannot find this piece of info anywhere Thanks a lot!!

New server update + wrong robots.txt = lost SERP rankings
Over the weekend, we updated our store to a new server. Before the switch, we had a robots.txt file on the new server that disallowed its contents from being indexed (we didn't want duplicate pages from both old and new servers). When we finally made the switch, we somehow forgot to remove that robots.txt file, so the new pages weren't indexed. We quickly put our good robots.txt in place, and we submitted a request for a re-crawl of the site. The problem is that many of our search rankings have changed. We were ranking #2 for some keywords, and now we're not showing up at all. Is there anything we can do? Google Webmaster Tools says that the next crawl could take up to weeks! Any suggestions will be much appreciated.
