Targeting multiple geo locations with single site
-
I am working on a project for three countries , i have geotargeted the the root directory to one location , and 2 sub directories to the other 2 locations, its been more than a month but i dont see google acknowledging the same for the 2 sub directories while its has updated for root domain. Additional can you please share some tips for ranking a domain in gulf countries like UAE , saudi etc . because the regular stuff like directory submission doesnt seem to be working.
Would really appreciate ya suggestions & ideas

Using hreflang is ideal for your situation with all your sites are in English. You may wish have have one site as a the default english language site and the other two targeted to specific countries (in this example UK and US).
Here's example of hreflang implementation to place in the head of your pages.
I would tread very carefully if using canonical with hreflang as Google no longer recommends it, although it doesn't rule it out comepletely either! Take a look at [this link](http://www.ingenuitydigital.co.uk/News/google-no-longer-recommends-relcanonical-hreflang-tags-1820.aspx) to find out more.

Subdirectories for all locations are in the same language i.e English so , in this hreflang tag applicable for this .Will this also eliminate the content duplicacy issue as I tried rel= canonical tag , But I believe doing so stop indexing of the canonicalized pages , which I do not want .Thanks.....

Have you created a site map for each of your sub-directories and set a geographic target for each in GWT? In addition, depending on your content, and if you are duplicating it across the three countries, this may be an opportunity to make use of hreflang in order that you can tell Google which pages are alternatives of one another in order that the correct ones in served in SERPs.

Www and non www site
We have 2 sites one with and one without www - http://forrestwilliamssolicitors.com/ The www site has no content and just re directs to the non www site. I have added some links to the site but stupidly have split them between the 2 sites so I am assuming that the links to the www site are a waste? There aren't many to be fair so I may be able to just simply go back to the link and change it but do I need to? Also could someone explain in simple terms what the difference between the 2 sites is and why we need both! Many thanks

Is it safe to submit the same article to multiple sites?
Hello, I am just getting into SEO and I need some guidance with article submissions. I have read in many different places that submitting articles to other sites (EzineArticles, Digg, Etc.) is a great way to build links back to your site. My question is, can I submit articles already posted on our site to these sites or is it best to write new articles?

Challenge: How to SEO a site with almost no content
Wondering what you all would recommend for SEO on this site: www.gudville.com Most of their content is behind a login. Basically there are 5 pages open to Google and to anyone without that login, and they are not open to doing it differently at this time. Once in, there will be a lot of sharing with Facebook friends that will include invitations to join them in their causes. Love to hear all your recommendations. Kathy

Links for edu and gov sites
So it is general knowledge that links from .edu and .gov sites are valued higher by Google. So, I hired some guys on freelance sites to help me buildlinks and get some love from SERPS. But one thing I notice quite often is that some of these links are actually like *.edu.tw (with a international TLD after .edu) What is your thoughts on links like that, do they have ANY edu value?

Lack of keyword targetting
Consider a scenario where a website has a considerably higher no. of back links than its competitors along with a greater Domain Authority, Mozrank etc. The only thing missing is keyword targeting. In such a case, rather than trying to build new links with keyword rich anchor text, wouldn't it be better to first focusing on changing the anchor text of the links that are already pointing to the website? How much impact would this have on its rankings? If the gap in back links, and the "value" of the back links is far greater than its competitors wouldn't this in itself help to change things around drastically?

Quality Article written, but on many sites.. Duplicate issue?
As part of a re-design of our site including the integration of our previously separate blog, we are using some of our quality articles regarding our industry to get backlinks to our site. Fortunately in our niche industry it is possible to find many out-dated articles, broken links, and just low-quality article content. So my question is.. if we have one article that would potentially allow us to get not just backlinks, but that actual article copied in full onto the other site, are there concerns about duplicate content and the link being useless? --Should I be changing the article a bit every time? --Should I ask them to only copy the first few sentences and link back to us to read more? - Other options? Cheers all

How often is Linkscape and Open Site Explorer updated?
I ran a report on a URL that needed external links updated several weeks ago. I contacted the webmasters at each site with the outdated external link notifying them of the updated URL. I want to check how many have been updated, so I reran the report. Unfortunately, there are some that I know were updated still showing up on the report with the outdated URL. Any suggestions to get a gauge on how many have been updated?
