Used Machines Site - Should I delete sold machines pages?
-
I´ll start posting in a wordpress blog used machines (excavators and wheel loaders) from a local company. They buy used machines every day and sell machines every day also.
When They sold a machine should I:
A) Edit the page with a sold machine text and show similar machines?
B) Change the category of the post ( to something like sold machines)?
C) Make a 301 redirection to one similar machine?
D) Keep the page and Make a 301 redirection to one similar machine?
E) Delete the page and Make a 301 redirection to one similar machine?
F) Keep the page and Make a 301 redirection to top10 machines?
G) Delete the page and Make a 301 redirection to top10 machines?
F) Any Suggestions are welcome

I´ve just tought to delete the pages and redirect because It could "transfer" some PR to a new page, (a new machine to sell) and keep the server clean (with less pages and pictures). Thanks for your toughts

Basically, you want to keep your pages and their permalink structure.
So, C, D, E, F, G - are excluded.
As for B, could be a viable solution, but it depends on your WP permalinks:
1. If your URLs are like: domain.com/category/post.-name.html - you can assign a new category to your post (like "Sold Machines") but your URL will change:
domain.com/unsold/post.-name.html -> domain.com/sold/post.-name.html
2. If your permalinks are like: domain.com/post.-name.html - B is a good option.
A is ok for your users. When someone searches for some king of machine, it is disappointing to find one that has been sold, so it's nice to offer them alternatives.
So, mixing A with B (if possible) is the way to go.
Moreover, B permits you make use of some nice category based widgets like "Just sold" or "New arrivals" etc.

Create a page that says the machine is sold and here is the list of similar machines... when a machine is sold you can delete the page and redirect 301 to the new page that you have created!
The reason why you should do this is because this will help you make lesser pages and do more work and you will stay away from duplicate content as well.

Moving site from html to Wordpress site: Should I port all old pages and redirect?
Any help would be appreciated. I am porting an old legacy .html site, which has about 500,000 visitors/month and over 10,000 pages to a new custom Wordpress site with a responsive design (long overdue, of course) that has been written and only needs a few finishing touches, and which includes many database features to generate new pages that did not previously exist. My questions are: Should I bother to port over older pages that are "thin" and have no incoming links, such that reworking them would take time away from the need to port quickly? I will be restructuring the legacy URLs to be lean and clean, so 301 redirects will be necessary. I know that there will be link juice loss, but how long does it usually take for the redirects to "take hold?" I will be moving to https at the same time to avoid yet another porting issue. Many thanks for any advice and opinions as I embark on this massive data entry project.

Best way to handle URLs of the to-be-translated pages on a multilingual site
Dear Moz community, I have a multilingual site and there are pages with content that is supposed to be translated but for now is English only. The structure of the site is such that different languages have their virtual subdirs: domain.com/en/page1.html for English, domain.com/fr/page1.html for French and so on. Obviously, if the page1.html is not translated, the URLs point to the same content and I get warnings about duplicate content. I see two ways to handle this situation: Break the naming scheme and link to original English pages, i.e. instead of domain.com/fr/index.html linking to domain.com/fr/page1.html link to domain.com/en/page.html Leave the naming scheme intact and set up a 301 redirect so that /fr/page1.html redirects to /en/page1.html Is there any difference for the two methods from the SEO standpoint? Thanks.

Will unused/dead pages within my site that is non-linked hurt my seo?
For example my website has mysite.com/randomunusedpage.html No links go into that page from the website but it is published (came with the WP theme). Will that hurt my SEO and should I delete the page or is it harmless? Thanks

Canconical tag on site with multiple URL links but only one set of pages
We have a site www.mezfloor.com which has a number of Url's pointing at one site. As the url's have been in use for many years there are links from many sources include good old fashioned hard copy advertising. We have now decided that it would be better to try to start porting all sources to the .co.uk version and get that listing as the prime/master site. A couple of days ago I went through and used canonical tags on all the pages thinking that would set the priority and that would also strengthen the page in terms of trust due to the reduced duplication. However when I went to scan the site in MOZ the warning that the page redirects came up and I am beginning to think that I need to remove all these canonical tags so that search engines do not get into a confused spiral where we loose the little page rank we have. Is there a way that I can redirect everything except the target URL without setting up a separate master site just for all the other pages to point at.

Are building a page using HTML 5 better for seo?
Very general question really, but does anyone know whether Google sees html5 pages as being superior in any way to xhtml or html 4.x pages?

Deleted Old Site - Relaunched on Same Domain
Now I have a bunch of links that are dead. (45 to be exact) What should I do? Rebuild the links, 301 redirect them to the homepage, 410 them? I didn't get a lot of external traffic from the links (maybe ~500 uniques/mo). Of that traffic, most of the users would bounce, my SEO wasn't very good so the content they received wasn't as relevant as it could have been. I'm not really worried about losing the traffic, but rather minimizing any penalty from google.
