Value Of You Tube Videos Embedded on Site
-
I have seen this response
http://www.seomoz.org/qa/view/36353/video-sitemaps-for-youtube-embedded-videos
That basically answers this question by saying that Google will give value to the site embedding the video.
However I have seen much talk about this whether this really ads any value to the actual site. So By searching videos on Google my site will NOT come up in the results for any embedded video. What would the actual value be?

Embedding your Youtube video on your site will help promote your Youtube video on organic results in Youtube and Google. The number of embeds is definitely one of the factors that is looked at in the Google algorithm.

Hi Zach.
You are basically asking how embedding a YouTube video on a webpage can ad value to your site. As you pointed out, it may not offer any value at all. But like most things in life, an embedded video can also be added as a tool to add tremendous value to a web page.
Some examples:
How do white board friday videos add value to SEOmoz? This site offers discussions centering around a specific topic, SEO. WBF videos offer an appearance of professionalism and credibility to the site. They answer many questions, and by allowing us to see Rand and other industry experts it helps us viewers feel more connected. Let's not forget the main reason for the videos...they provide fantastic information and generate discussion.
Videos often turn lookers into buyers. You can demonstrate how safe or easy a product is to use. Maybe your site sells vacuum cleaners. You can add a video showing an elderly person pushing your vacuum to demonstrate how easy it is to use, or the vacuum hanging from a scale to demonstrate it's light weight. Just like we add images to a site to help a user better visualize things, a video can take that experience to the next level.
There are many other examples. In short, the value is keeping your visitors on your site for a longer period and establishing stronger connections with your visitors. These and other factors can help you realize your site's goals such as making a sale or whatever those goals may be.

huh? They must not be thinkin' very hard.

Sometimes SEOs should think about doing things to please the visitors to their website.
A great article supplemented by some great videos can be kickass linkbait... earn tweets, likes, recommends, get emailed. Videos are rocket fuel content.
The word "video" on your page can pull traffic from search.
If you take the site visitor perspective you can probably think of a lot more ways that a video can benefit your site.

Moving site from html to Wordpress site: Should I port all old pages and redirect?
Any help would be appreciated. I am porting an old legacy .html site, which has about 500,000 visitors/month and over 10,000 pages to a new custom Wordpress site with a responsive design (long overdue, of course) that has been written and only needs a few finishing touches, and which includes many database features to generate new pages that did not previously exist. My questions are: Should I bother to port over older pages that are "thin" and have no incoming links, such that reworking them would take time away from the need to port quickly? I will be restructuring the legacy URLs to be lean and clean, so 301 redirects will be necessary. I know that there will be link juice loss, but how long does it usually take for the redirects to "take hold?" I will be moving to https at the same time to avoid yet another porting issue. Many thanks for any advice and opinions as I embark on this massive data entry project.

Site-wide Links
Hey y'all, I know this question has been asked many times before but I wanted to see what your stance was on this particular case. The organisation I work for is a group of 12 companies - each with its own website. On some of the sites we have a link to the other sites within the group on every single page of that site. Our organic search traffic has dropped a bit but not significantly and we haven't received any manual penalties from Google. It's also worth mentioning that the referral traffic for these sites from the other sites I control is quite good and the bounce rate is extremely low. If you were in my shoes would you remove the links, put a nofollow tag on the links or leave the links as they are? Thanks guys 🙂

Site Map Problems or Are They?
According to webmaster tools my Sitemap contains urls which are blocked by robots.txt Our site map is generically generated and encompasses all web pages, whether I have excluded them using the robots.txt file As far as I am aware this has never been an issue until recently. Is this hurting my rankings and how do I fix it? Secondly, webmaster tools says there is over 5,000 error/warnings on my site map. But site map is only 1,400 or so pages submitted. How do I see what is going on?

How to move a site slowly
I've got a site that I started back in 2001 (www.jaaroncaststone.com) to sell what I was making, concrete countertops and sinks. Well we're going to be discontinuing the concrete products in a month or so and want to start pointing all the links from the old site to a new one dedicated to a single product (www.jaaron-wood-countertops.com). I don't want to do a full 301 on the old site just yet but can I put a canonical tag on the index and about us pages pointing to the new site now so the search engines start looking that way or should I wait and do a full 301 when the day comes to pull the old site?

Does 301 redirecting a site multiple times keep the value of the original site?
Hi, All! If I 301 redirect site www.abc.com to www.def.com, it should pass (almost) all linkjuice, rank, trust, etc. What happens if I then redirect site www.def.com to www.ghi.com? Does the value of the original site pass indefinitely as long as you do the redirects correctly? Or does it start to be devalued at some point? If anyone's had experience redirecting a site more than once and they've seen reportable good/bad/neutral results, that would be very helpful. Thanks in advance! -Aviva B
