Help w/ Google Event tracking w/ new Universal analytics.js
-
I want to implement Google event tracking after my visitors complete an estimate form. The form provides them an approximate range of costs based on their widget and widget amount.
I have the php coding done, but I don't know JS and I need to send an event upon completion of the estimate form. However, all of Google's examples are button click events. How do I send the event upon completing a form if there is no separate landing page?
If I have my Google analytics code on the page as well, would simply adding the following the completed estimate code work?

I have my new site and tracking live online. However, I can't find in analytics where this would report to! Perhaps it's not reporting properly...

That was a snap! Thanks for the great instruction.

Go Into Analytics
Your Account -> Admin -> Property -> AdWords Linking
It is very important that you have access to the Analytics as a main user and Adwords in the same account
should be easy from there click the button and authorize
Just to be sure
Adwords -> Account -> The Cog Icon -> Account Settings -> Linked Accounts
You should see your Analytics account if not give it 24 hours and retry

I created successfully created a new conversion goal in Adwords and created my dynamic value per https://support.google.com/adwords/answer/1722054?hl=en
I can't find any official documentation on linking the conversions in Analytics and Adwords. All I found was this 2009 article that is possibly no longer relevant. http://www.seroundtable.com/archives/019997.html
Any guidance on linking the two is very appreciated

If Analytics is set up with AdWords it will show up. But they have to be linked. Once they are linked in the Conversions section of AdWords there will be Import from Analytics which you would have to do but then it would count conversions from PPC

These events won't show up in Adwords for your PPC manager. But the technique you're using is not really weird, it's essentially the best solution to send this kind of data still to Google Analytics.
-
Hah! Yep...I just figured I shouldn't post it publicly.
Is it ok that I am reporting dynamic values for the events? These aren't completed sales (or I'd use eCommerce tracking), but have the potential to turn into one.
Will these show up in adwords as well for our PPC manager?
Thanks again all

If you replace UA-XXXXXX-1 with your own tracking ID then yes it is!

Wow! A lot of quick responses. Thank you everyone This is the last item before we launch our new design, so I'm excited to get it done.
Ok, so I modified the everything to be a bit more appropriate for my site for further clarity and listed it within the new analytics.js code. If the estimate is completed I would display the code below. Is this correct?
-
I agree, allow me to rectify with an edit. I too noticed that after the fact and died a little inside
-
You're right! I was more frustrated by the fact that your snippet was wrong as it was missing a comma + the PHP statement is not the most clear way.

Martijn,
I see what you are trying to do but by giving the Label a changing value you then make tracking it more difficult. You would then have to specify in GA when creating the event that the label contains 'nav buttons' not the default equals to.
Also you do have 4 values to work with
ga('send',{ 'hitType':'event', // Required. 'eventCategory':'button', // Required. 'eventAction':'click', // Required. 'eventLabel':'nav buttons', 'eventValue':4 });
-
Sean did a good first try on how you could include this on your page, however the code is not correct and will break it. What you're trying to do is send an event, but you only have 3 values you could provide. Not 4 as in both Seans and your example. The correct code would be: ga('send', 'event','button','click','nav buttons '); in this case the value will be added to the label of an event.
Hope this helps!

This is the Event Tracking for onclick related events
onclick="ga('send', 'event','button','click','nav buttons',);"
you don't need to specify the javascript you just put the code in the coding for the button

Referral issue in Google analytics
We have an eCommerce website that counts paypal as a referral source in Analytics. The site takes people to Paypal to make a payment and then back to the website to a Thank You page once that payment has been made. Due to this, Analytics sees this as a conversion that has come from Paypal, and also records it as a referral source, when we know this is not really the case. This also distorts the data in analytics and prohibits us from clearly seeing which channels sales have come from. Is there anyway in Analytics to include Paypal as a part of the website so that it does not record Paypal as a separate referral website?

Google Analytics goals only show unique event triggers
I have some goals in GA which is linked to different event triggers. However I've found out that the goal is only showing the unique event triggers and not the total. I need it to show the total in order to be accurate. Is there any way to switch that option? I can't find any options like that in GA or guides to do so.

Alternative to Google Analytics
Hey Everyone, My company has just changed the order processing software we are using and it's causing some issues with Google Analytics conversion funnel tracking. Specifically, there is one point in the funnel where making certain selections (which about half the people do) causes the page to reload. Also, on the login/register page, if they miss a field, the software tells them missed the field, but loads a new page which has a different URL which is not a part of the funnel when a mistake like that isn't made. All of this is causing Google Analytics to report people as leaving the conversion funnel when they really haven't. About a third of the traffic is being shown as exiting the funnel with the exit URL being the exact same URL as the step they are supposedly exiting from (example: the visitor enters on page1, moves to page2, Google is showing that they exit on page2 and go to...page2. Does anyone have any suggestions of how to deal with this in Google Analytics? If not, do you have a recommendation of an alternative analytics program which can deal with the situations mentioned above? PS - Changing the way the checkout software works does not appear to be a viable option. Kurt Steinbrueck

How to not track mobile redirects in Google Analytics
If a user is on a mobile device and comes to our home page, http://www.darden.virginia.edu/web/Home/ they are redirected to http://m.darden.virginia.edu/web/Home/. We want a way to remove all the redirects from our Google analytics reports. More specifically we do not want to include the the page view of http://www.darden.virginia.edu/web/Home/ in our page view count when the user is on a mobile device. How do we do that?

Google Analytics Tracking Code Queries
Hello, I have taken on a new client who has Google Analytics installed. The tracking code is set to 'single domain'. Recently they added a mobile site using a sub-domain (m.website.com) which means that Google Analytics is not picking up this traffic. I want to revise the account so that I have a master account (raw data) and then profiles for the mobile site, main domain (www.website.com) and one other for a sub-domain that they are using. I am aware that there is mobile specific tracking code however I thought it would be easier (re conversions/goals/eCommerce tracking) to not use this and by changing the account to 'multiple domains' we could also get data for another sub-domain that they are using . My questions are: Am I right to want to use individual profiles over web properties. If not please explain why. When installing the tracking code (where the profile number is changing) I believe that I need to add that code with the changing profile number to the sub-domain sections. So my question is a) is that correct, and b) if I use a profile number on a sub-domain section will the master account still gather the data for the main URL as well as all sub-domains. If I change the master account from using 'single domain' tracking code to 'multiple domain' tracking code will this affect historical data? Will I lose the data? When changing from 'single domain' tracking to 'multiple domain' tracking does this affect eCommerce tracking? Or do we only need to be adding the additional lines of tracking code that allow sub-domains to be tracked? The web developers are using asynchronous code however half is in the and the other half is at the bottom of the source code. Given that traffic is being reported in the Google Analytics account should I have any concerns that the code is split? I have done a lot of reading but seem to be going around in circles, so your help is much appreciated! Thanks,

Why does Google Analytics think PPC traffic is organic?
I have a bastard of a problem... Google Analytics is incorrectly tracking PPC traffic as SEO which is screwing up all my reporting . I don't care for rankings, I care for actual SEO traffic and I can't be sure that what i am seeing is correct which is driving me nuts. Any ideas?
