I should keep looking at the IP address location on my backlink prospects?
-
Hello Everyone,
I'm doing a backlink research and we are considering how to define a strategy. My website is located in Spain and I am focusing on ranking my website on Google.es for public coming from Spain. The thing is that until now I used to look carefully at the IP address of my backlink prospects, to check if the website was really hosted in Spain.
I know Matt Cutts used to say very long ago that hosting location of a website was important. But taking into account that nowadays with cloud servers, CDNs, AnyCast and such technologies it's no longer possible to accurately identify the location of a website, specially if the CDN of the websites uses AnyCast, so that an IP address can be used by different machines in different locations.
Do you guys think I should keep looking at the IP address location on my backlink prospects?

I wouldn't worry about the location of the IP too much. What's most important is that you're getting quality, value-added links to your website for your niche.
This is conjecture on my part, but I say it would be more important to receive a link from a .es domain than from a website with an IP in Spain (for specifically ranking in the .es SERPs). However, unless the terms you're trying to rank for are very competitive, I would concentrate on just receiving quality links, regardless of location. I'm not sure that there would be that much incremental benefit from the IP address location.

Should I use the Change of Address in Search Console when moving subdomains to subfolders?
We have several subdomains for various markets for our business. We are in the process of moving those subdomains to subfolders on the main site. Example: boston.example.com will become example.com/boston And seattle.example.com will become example.com/seattle and so on. It's not truly a change of address, but should I use the change of address tool in GSC for all of these subdomains moving?

Huge amount of backlinks detected - what to do ?
The websites that use Yotpo review solution can display product galleries like this //imgur.com/4dHUh7O - orginal source page: http://skibox.fr/fr/veste-de-pluie-dynastar-long-shell.html Every product in the gallery generates a link to https://yotpo.com such as https://yotpo.com/go/eAaQNjJh This generate a huge amount of links detected in Google Search Console (GWMT) of yotpo.com And every of those links redirects 301 to a page of the website using Yotpo review solution. Example: https://yotpo.com/go/eAaQNjJh redirects to http://skibox.fr/fr/batons-de-ski-leki-worldcup-lite-slalom-4683.html?#.VymNdr5_TwY It seems to be similar to shorten URL links (that are legitimate), but I am not about the influence of this, what do you think ? Is this really influencing (in bad) the (potential) rankings of https://www.yotpo.com subdomain pages? What would you recommend to do?

Website keeps dropping in ranking with no visible penalty.
Hi everyone! I would really appreciate your help on this! The website URL is: www.gipsydharma.com It has now been over a year, but we're finding it very difficult to start ranking for any useful keywords. Some keywords like: leather boots / boots for women / handmade clothing at some point went up to page 20, but have now dropped again below page 50. Now, most of our traffic comes from social media so the business is going OK. But the question still remains, what does Google have against the above URL? Its not a super amazing website, but it provides unique and engaging content and has zero spam. I also don't think its over optimized, but I may be wrong on this. Recently, I've also noticed that the Domain Authority has also been going down, it was 46 at some point and now its 40. There's no visible penalty and all the pre-Penguin links (of which there weren't that many, I think) were cleaned up months ago, without Google suggesting that. There are very few keyword rich backlinks and a lot of them come naturally anyways. So again, any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance for your help!

Using IP to deliver different sidebar content on homepage
We have a site with a generic top level domain and we'd like to use a small portion of the homepage to cater content based on the IP of a visiting user. The content is for product dealerships around different regions/states of the US, not internationally. The idea being that someone from Seattle would see dealerships for this product near their location in Seattle. The section on the homepage is relatively small and would churn out 5 links and images according to location. The rest of the homepage would be the same for everyone, which includes links to news and reviews and fuller content. We have landing pages for regional/state content deeper in the site that don't use an IP to deliver content and also have unique URLs for the different regions/states. An example being a "Washington State Dealerships" landing page with links to all the dealerships there. We're wondering what kind of SEO impact there would be to having a section of the homepage delivering different content based on IP, and if there's anything we should do about it (or if we should be doing it all!). Thank you.

Is there a way to keep sitemap.xml files from getting indexed?
Wow, I should know the answer to this question. Sitemap.xml files have to be accessible to the bots for indexing they can't be disallowed in robots.txt and can't block the folder at the server level. So how can you allow the bots to crawl these xml pages but have them not show up in google's index when doing a site: command search, or is that even possible? Hmmm

Sharing same IP address as competitor - Pros & Cons?
Hey there! I was wondering is there were any particular 'Pros or Cons' to sharing the same server IP address as a competitors website which links back? Site 'A' = http://goo.gl/N1JUO // Stockists of Site 'B' brand products Site 'B' = http://goo.gl/fU9hc // Links to all Stockists of it products with a follow link including site 'A' It is desirable for site 'A' to rank above site 'B' to reduce the volume of visitors finding other stockists linked to from the stockists page of site 'B' when searching for site 'A' primary broadest keyword. However, site 'B' is one of site 'A' best in-bound links. So does it matter that site 'A' is sharing the same server IP address as site 'B'. Also should site 'A' have only 'no-follow' links to site 'B'? Look forward to your input fellow SEOMozers 🙂 Cheers! Ben
