What is the correct code to write the rel=canonical in the HTML HEAD of the page?
-
is it like:
html>
<head>
<link rel="canonical" href="http://example.com/" />
head>
<body>
...<ref>sdfdfref>
or like:

Yes, it's correct!

Hi there,
In the first example, there is a mistake: the ending sign finish like this ' /> ' and it should finish like any other tag in HTML: like this ' > ' (in both, without the ' ' )
And what Chris says is right, the first points to the homepage and the second one to a specific page.
Best Luck.

The first example would be the correct way to apply the code to your homepage. The second example you would want to apply to a specific page that the /wordpress/seo-plugin directs to. Just keep in mind that most of your pages are going to have a unique canonical tag, which can become overwhelming to apply manually. I see you referenced WordPress above, if your site is being hosted on WordPress, I would recommend installing the Yoast plug-in. Yoast will take care of all canonicals for you.
Hope this helps!

Wrong page ranking on SERP, above more relevant page
Often I will see the wrong page, something less relevant to a particular search, appear higher on the SERP than a more relevant page. Why does this happen and how can it be remedied? I found this Moz article, has anything been written on this topic more recently. Thanks! https://mza.bundledseo.com/blog/wrong-page-ranking-in-the-results-6-common-causes-5-solutions

Too many page links warning... but each link has canonical back to main page? Is my page OK?
The Moz crawl warns me many of my pages have too many links, like this page http://www.webjobz.com/jobs/industry/Accounting ...... has 269 links but many of the links are like this /jobs/jobtitles/Accounting?k=&w=3&hiddenLocationID=463170&depth=2 and are used to refine search criteria.... when you click on those links they all have a canonical link back to http://www.webjobz.com/jobs/industry/Accounting Is my page being punished for this? Do I have to put "no follow" tags on every link I do not want the bots to follow and if I do so is Roger (moz bot) not going to count this as a link?

Deleted pages still registering as 404 pages.
I have a an all html site that I can only work on through the ftp. The previous marketing company ran a script that built thousands of location landing pages, but all they did was change the tags and headers and the keywords in the pages, other than that they are all duplicate pages. I removed them, but Google is reading them as 404 pages. How do I tell Google those pages don't exist? or do I just need to let the bots crawl it a few times and it will see that eventually?

Do pages with fewer headings rank higher?
I've found several good quality, high ranking pages with excellent content, 500 to 1000 words. These pages are made by people who obviously know what they're doing. These pages only have one headline the h1 at the top of the page. Some of the sites use CSS div boxes and other things to make text look like a heading but do not have h2 or h3 tags or bigger font size. Could it be that a single headline tells Google that this page is about a single topic and that several sub headings muddy the water and so reduce page rank. Do multiple headings or subheadings affect page rank or is it just a personal style choice?

Almost all pages showing under Notices Rel Canonical - why???
Hi, I'm just going through my latest crawl since my new site launch and havce noticed almost all of my websites pages are listed under the notices rel canonical section, Why is this? All pages have the unique pages titles followed by the site name in the title, for example: Product | Site name All pages have unique meta descriptions and content (although we only offer lots of differt varients of the same product). Is this something I should be worried about?
