SEO newbie here - I cannot seem to find the direct answers to a few queries that I have
-
Hi,
Apologies if these are very simple queries, but I cannot seem to find the answers anywhere.
-
I understand meta keywords are pretty much pointless nowadays, however when I run a report on another 'keyword website' - my website only ranks for around 2k keywords where my competitors rank for much more (around 20k). I was just wondering where these keywords are found, as I can only assume that these are meta keywords?
-
The company that I'm working on the SEO for is a holiday agency that specialises in holidays abroad for disabled people, so that means that we have a niche product/service and whilst we rank fairly high for some keywords, we would like to rank higher. How is it possible to work towards ranking higher for particular keywords? When doing keyword research 'disabled holidays' has a lot more search traffic than 'accessible holidays'. We are called Enable Holidays and our main competitors have the words 'disabled' and 'accessible' in their domain's, so I would imagine that it's going to be hard to potentially rank higher than our competitors for these keywords?
-
Could someone put me in the right direction of how you improve rankings in the SERP for certain keyword searches? For example, do we have to write more content on a certain page about a keyword? Do we have to include more long-tail keywords in the content?
Any help is appreciated. Thanks

Your competition probably has more KW rich content as to their higher KW's
Create KW rich content on your pages and your blog (embed one if you don't have one already) and use Mos Pro page optimization to help you improve.
Good Luck

Hello Enable Holidays,
I recommend you really take some time to read through a lot of the beginner keyword resources on this website, as it would take a lot of writing to really answer a lot of your questions. See below for my responses to a few.

_SEO is all about ranking for keywords. What you're I think referring to is the meta keyword box on the back end where you used to be able to signal to Google that you wanted to rank for XYZ keywords. Ignore that box. What you rank for is based on a variety of factors, but obviously if you don't have relevant content that uses that keyword phrase and variations thereof, you're definitely not going to rank. _

It is nice to have a keyword in your name, but given time and a focus on really working toward writing content relevant to disabled and accessible holidays that your clientele actually finds useful and gets linked to, you can potentially outrank them. Of course, if they're doing the same thing, it might be out of reach. But learning the tools here on Moz will allow you to see how much ground you need to gain to have a website as popular as theirs related to that term. A good place to start is using the competitor tools on Moz. My guess is they have many more links to their websites from other places, than links to your website (backlinks).

Again, the resources on this website are a good place to start. Over time this stuff won't seem so complex. I recommend:
Read one or more of the major resources here related to how to do keyword research.
Then learn the competitor tools, so you can see what they are doing that you aren't.
Then just set out to slowly set out to catch up with them.
Normally this involves choosing a handful of keywords you see have a lot of search traffic, that you are for example on Page 2 for, but seeing the tools, could move to Page 1 on if you created some good pages/blog posts, that provided really good content for your clientele, and then you worked hard to promote that content to for example tour agencies you work with, who could link to it from their websites for their customers.
_They key is to start small and create content that's genuinely valuable to your clients. (Stuff like answering questions they always ask your staff), and promoting that content. _
Best of luck. SEO is a fun journey once you get rolling!

I can see competitors ranking for certain long-tail keywords but cannot find them on web pages. What am I missing?
Hi there. I'm pretty new to SEO and I've been doing a fair bit of training but there is one aspect I have yet to grasp. When I carry out keyword research, I get all these results and I understand the metrics. What I'm not getting is, when a competitor is ranking highly for say "where can I buy fresh turkeys", I assume that that phrase must appear somewhere on the page, but it doesn't. I realise I'm just not thinking about this in the right way. Can anyone offer clarification, please? Kind regards, Bruce

Reaching out to all SEO experts for exciting new brand and project
Hi everyone! We're a beauty and travel ecomm brand looking to hire an SEO consultant (independent contractors only - no agencies please) on a contract basis to join our team. We're fast-growing and need help to optimize our on-site and off-site SEO efforts (www.shopsphynx.com). Please message me directly if you're interested in working with us. Below is a little more about us. Thanks! About Us: We recently launched with our first line of products - a new and innovative 3-in-1 travel razor for women that includes a water spray bottle, moisturizing shave bar and two razors all in one compact case. We've received tons of press for the product's unique design and innovation within the shaving industry (and are also in over 900 retail stores nationwide), and only recently launched our new site on shopify (two weeks ago) to drive our B2C sales. There's a lot of room for SEO improvement in terms of on-site efforts, as well as some guidance we'd like to receive for off-site SEO strategies, so we can build up our traffic, audience and customer base. We're targeting a big market & demographic of young women (ages 19-35), mainly competing with Gillette and Schick for a product segment that has largely gone untouched for decades. We'd like to change that 🙂 Let me know if you're interested! Thanks.

SEO ranking question
Hey, If a site for had a series of articles, and had the privilege of guest posting on several sites, such as mashable, entrepreuner.com, inc.com, and a few other not as big sites. and let us also say that this site is new and currently has pagerank of 0. How would the above benefit the site and the visibility of the articles on google? Also, with guest-posting, is it problematic to have the exact article also on your site? thanks in advance!

Do unindexed pages affect SEO?
Been looking at a couple of sites recently. I've seen that they contain a couple of 'default' pages from the build process. These pages aren't of any significance to the main site and as such aren't actually linked in anywhere.

I did a site:www.example.com search on google and as expected the pages aren't indexed. Could these page be have a negative affect on SEO in the future?
Even though they aren't indexed or linked in anywhere. I look forward to you responses...0 -
Choosing an SEO agency
Is this the place to find an SEO agency?

We are a car leasing company based in the UK and need an SEO agency to help us rank in a very competitive market. We have a relatively small budget of £2500 - £4000 per month. I appreciate this not a massive budget but that is where we are at. Any input would be much appreciated. Regards

I must be tripping. How is this site ranking for the term "SEO Company"??????
When I go to Google non-custom search results and search the term: seo company The website "greencowseo.com" is ranked 3rd. OpenSiteSearch shows nothing. And get this... the domain was registered 14 days ago by somebody in Egypt. Do I need to quit my SEO Moz membership and hire this guy? 🙂

Raise your hand if you're doing SEO for manufacturers please.
When you're working for a manufacturer it's not exactly the same as working for a company that is flat-out informing people with content and links and revealing a lot of information (relatively speaking). Please tell me what you do when you're working with a client that is not willing to reveal too much because competition = fear of the unknown (like if you take a chance and post something online that your competition may use against you). I would appreciate less speculative and more informed answers from people who have actually done this kind of work - as opposed to those who think theoretically they may know the best way to go because they work for other types of businesses that are not as proprietary as manufacturing is. Thank you.

How do I find my client's real competition?
A recently acquired client keeps insisting that his major competitors are online fashion magazines, fashion news sites and insider bloggers but the site he owns is basically a fashion encyclopedia. It contains facts and catalogues and even a dictionary of fashion concepts. According to me, these latter are his benchmarks and not his competition His major competitors, according to me. are people competing on the first SERP pages for terms like "fashion history", "fashion icons", "fashion biographies", etc. Am I right? How do I convince him that these are his real competition. This is really going to determine the direction of my keyword research.
