Whats the best way to rank high for several different keywords?
-
I Have a print website www.print.dor2dor.com and we print 100's of products. I was wandering what is the best way to rank high for severall keywords as we dont want to just rank high for printing because when people are searching they normally type in the product they are looking for with printing at the end of it.

hey johnsantillan, I like your response. can you do me some justice? what do you think of my home page www.bestfitbybrazil.com? I get good pull on my keywords, but many pages I've optimized for specific keyword don't have much pull and searches send them to home page. and the grade for my home page for several keywords are F. How can i possibly optimize homepage for several keywords to the level of A? I have done this with other pages on site, but home page keeps winning the search. ??

Right having a quick look, put this page - http://www.print.dor2dor.com/leaflets.html - into this - http://www.yellowpipe.com/yis/tools/lynx/lynxview.cgi - and you'll see what your page looks like to search engines.
Not pretty, right Basically because all your content is in an iFrame the search engines don't include that content as being on page.
Assuming there's no way to just replicate the content on your site instead of just having it in an iFrame you're going to have to put some more content on the page. Maybe make a div at the bottom for content with a reasonably lengthy explanation of what the page is about.
Also, if you're trying to rank for 'cheap flyers' then change your title tag for that page to 'Cheap leaflets and cheap flyers - D2D Print' or similar. Get your keywords in the <title>tag anyway.</p> <p>But yeah, your main problem is no content on the page :|</p></title>

Oh, that helps : )
Well an iFrame can be the entire page, or a section of the page. My suggestion would be to surround the iFrame with page copy that you generate that will include keywords you wan to rank for.

Hi Richard thanks for your reply. I think we do have a slightly larger problem which is that because each of our pages for our products include an iframe with all the information in there we cant edit it to display on our page without the iframe. The reason we are using the iframe is because its supplied to us by the printing company we have a share in and its not possible for us to have the actual code in our website. Any ideas will be greatly recieved.

You have everything you need. Each page focuses on one product and that one products keyword. You can either link build into those product pages, or set up category pages and link build to them.
The formula is to place the keyword within the page so it is the most relevant, then link to it using that keyword within the anchor text.
I am feeling as though you might have a larger problem?

Hi Jeff,
I don't think having too much content on the homepage will stop you ranking in the search engine. Unless the content that you are putting looks spam on the eye of the search engine.
I looked on the website that you mentioned and I noticed that you have a lot of terms at the bottom of the homepage such as list of Delivery Information as well as list of available products which I don't think its needed because there are only number of keywords that you can optimize per page. Why not create a specific page for each keyword and write a content that is focus on this keyword rather than putting it all in your homepage.
There's a lot that of things that I also noticed on your website that doesn't comply on SEO best practices such as iframe, inline css/javascript, keyword stuffing etc. You might want to review your website again and check if everything is according to best practices. To get you started you can check this link http://guides.seomoz.org/beginners-guide-to-search-engine-optimization and this http://www.seomoz.org/blog/the-beginners-checklist-for-small-business-seo and follow the instruction.
hope it helps

Hi Jeff,
I would recommend link building to a separate page that's optimised for Cheap Leaflets, making sure the anchor text says cheap leaflets. You've obviously done your on site work but how do your incoming links compare to your competition. I would have thought cheap leaflets is a very competitive term, could you look at variants on this? Pehaps cheap gloss leaflets or cheap flyers. Easy wins for you would be print related, print cheap leaflets, cheap print company etc.
I assume you're running an adwords campaign along side this, check which keywords people are actualy finding you for (Keywords and then "see search terms" and then all) and then build on them.
Hope that helps
John

Thanks for the quick responce. We have added alot of content to our home page for the different types of products we sell but we dont seem to be getting very far in google and bing one keyword cheap printing services ranks very highly but the others dont seem to. we would mainly like to rank well for cheap leaflets as this is what our main competitor ranks well for but it dosent seem to work. We have optimised the page using the seo moz dashboard tools to get an a grade for most of the keywords but they stil dont seem to rank very well. Does google/bing rank you down for having too much content on your home page? and help will be greatly recived.

My suggestion is you need to create a content that focus on the keywords that you want to rank for. If you u think that your targetted customer is using the product name + product type then create a specific page for that.

URL keyword separator best practice
Hello. Wanted to reach out see what the consensus is re-keyword separators So just taken on a new client and all their urls are structured like /buybbqpacks rather than buy-bbq-packs - my understanding is that it comes down to readability, which influences click through, rather than search impact on the keyword. So we usually advise on a hyphen, but the guy's going to have to change ALLOT of pages & setup redirects to change it all wasn't sure if it was worth it? Thanks! Stu

Sudden drop in ranking for important keyword? No penalty / other issues detected
Hi For our site we previously ranked well for the term "botswana safari holidays" on the page: http://www.naturalworldsafaris.com/destinations/africa-and-the-indian-ocean/botswana.aspx We've suddenly seen a dramatic drop for this term, currently ranked #43 on Google UK. There are no penalty notices in Webmaster tools and the only edits to the page recently have been to include the term "Botswana safari holidays" in the page title and the on-page h2 (previously Botswana safaris and holidays). Any suggestions why we have seen a large decrease for this term? We expect to see some fluctuation but this one seems a bit dramatic. We've not lost any backlinks to the page that we know of. Thanks for the help.

Home Page Keywords not Ranking and Assigned to Inside Pages
Hi, thank you for taking the time to read this. We have a few websites with the same problem. I will use http://www.prepared-meals.com as an example: The home page was ranking on page one for keyword "Prepared Meals". The site is about 6 months old. We use the Moz page optimizer on all pages of our websites to score an A rating. Recently we found the home page is no longer showing up in search results and the keyword "prepared meals" now points to an inside page that is not relevant: http://www.prepared-meals.com/Senior-Meals/Moms-Meals-Reviews.html this page shows up for Prepared Meals around page 15 in Google results. We have read keywords in the URL might be the issue, even though the page optimizer in MOZ says to do that. We are wondering if this is the issue or there is some other problem we are not aware of. Again, thank you for you for your time. -Craig

Best practices when targeting a different country and language completely.
Hi, I have just recently built a shopping site which is targeting users from the UK, built in opencart. Now I want to expand the site and also target customers in Thailand, for Thailand users they will need the site in Thai & English language. I was wondering what would be the best option to do this, taking into account best possible practice V's time involved. As I can see it have only a couple of options really. 1. Add a new language to the existing .com site. This seems to be the easiest and fastest option. 2. Clone the site and launch on a .co.th domain with Thai/Eng text option. Would their be any major benefit ranking wise as to having a co.th separate site. Or any duplicate content potential issues. Bit of a noob so don't be afraid to point out the obvious. I did have search and could only find topics relating to eu languages and GB v US. Is their anything extra that has to be taken into account considering the massive differences between UK and Thai. Thanks you for any guidance, Ian

Using a subdomain to improve rankings
I have a pretty simple landing page that at present targets several keywords. Is a good strategy to add a blog to the site on a subdomain with pages targeting individual keywords? Will this help the main domain rank? Also is the best strategy to focus on building links to the home page or individual pages on the subdomain? As long as each page on the subdomain links back to the home page it should pass link juice back to the home page shouldn't it? Thanks in advance!

Using a keyword on homepage of a blog
I have a blog and the homepage has the 5 most recent posts. I ran a report card on my homepage for my main keyword. One of the problems is that the keyword only appears 1 time. I don't want to put it in the signature of every post because I found that causing problems with self-cannibalizing. I checked my competitor and they got a check mark for this but I looked at their homepage and I found the keyword NOWHERE! So where is my competitor hiding the keywords and how can I get the keywords on the homepage when the content is constantly changing? Thanks in advance!

Strategy for dealing with keyword variants
I'd like your opinion on the strategy of dealing with key phrase variants: I've got a page that is ranking in the top 10 and top 3 for about 10 different variations of the same phrase. Seomoz gives it terrible grades for all but one of the keyphrases. Which course of action do you recommend : ----------- create new pages ------------ Create new pages for each variant and get them to grade A. If I go this route what sort of cross linking scheme should I use between this pages? ---------- improve existing page ----------- Try to make my single page rank better for all the phrases by doing extra on-page work so the page has a better grade for all of the variants? Many thanks for your ideas and opinions.

301 redirect and then keywords in URL
Hi, Matt Cutts says that 301 redirects, including the ones on internal pages, causes the loss of a little bit of link juice. But also, I know that keywords in the URL are very important. On our site, we've got unoptimized URLs (few keywords) in the internal pages. Is it worth doing a 301 redirect in order to optimize the URLs for each main page. 301 redirects are the only way we can do it on our premade cart For example (just an example) say our main (1 of the 4) keywords for the page is "brown shoes". I'm wondering if I should redirect something like shoes.com/shoecolors.html to shoes.com/brown-shoes.html In other words, with the loss of juice would we come out ahead? In what instances would we come out ahead?
