Duplicate Page Title
-
The crawl of my website http://www.aboutaburningfire.com revealed an error showing a duplicate page title.
Can someone please explain to me how to fix this? I'm not sure what it means or how to fix it.

Russell, you'll want to take a second look at the .htaccess file. http://www.aboutaburningfire.com/index.html gives me a 404 error instead of going to the home page.
-
does this apply to blogsites as well?
-
Yes, definitely.
Otherwise you could have a duplicate content problem on all your sites and really it keeps things a lot neater.
Don't forget to change the URL in the .htaccess file though to the site it's going on, lol.
If we helped marking a post as answering your question or a thumbs up is always appreciated
-
thanks guys. I think this answered my question. Is this something I should do on all my websites?
-
The php header redirect above would have worked, but much better sorting it in .htaccess as you're doing
Leave the addhandlers in, even if your site isn't using them it may be there for a reason.
The layout you have above should be fine, but test the site as soon as you make the changes to see if anything has broken!
-
This is what I have in the .htaccess file. Do I need to take the "addhandler" code out?
RewriteEngine On
Options +FollowSymLinksRewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^aboutaburningfire.com
RewriteRule (.*) http://www.aboutaburningfire.com/$1 [R=301,L]RewriteCond %{THE_REQUEST} ^./index.html
RewriteRule ^(.)index.html$ http://www.aboutaburningfire.com/$1 [R=301,L]addhandler x-httpd-php-cgi .php4
addhandler x-httpd-php5-cgi .php5
addhandler x-httpd-php5-cgi .php -
Its already there on any linux server. You just need to download that flie and open it on notepad and upload it back to the server with the updated code as Barry pointed.
-
is .htaccess something my hosting company provides in the control panel? Or can I create a php file with the following code:
Header( "HTTP/1.1 301 Moved Permanently" );
Header( "Location: http://www.new-url.com" );
?>and where do I place this file?
-
sorry for my ignorance, but can you explain how to set up a 301 redirect?
-
As Eric and Saibose have said, this is a duplicate page issue which needs to be resolved using a redirect. You also need to redirect non-www to www.
However it would depend what kind of server you have as to how to fix it
If you have a Linux server use .htaccess and put this in
RewriteEngine On
Options +FollowSymLinksRewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^aboutaburningfire.com
RewriteRule (.*) http://www.aboutaburningfire.com/$1 [R=301,L]RewriteCond %{THE_REQUEST} ^./index.html
RewriteRule ^(.)index.html$ http://www.aboutaburningfire.com/$1 [R=301,L]If you have a Windows server then I dunno how to change it in IIS, your host should be able to help (NB: You're probably on a Linux server :D)
-
IIS? Controversial you first think it's on a windows server rather than linux
-
You would need to put a 301 redirect using your htaccess. This is a duplicate page issue and just not a duplicate title issue.
-
You need to redirect your index.html page to /. You can do this in IIS.

Blog archive pages are meta noindexed but still flagged as duplicate
Hi all. I know there several threads related to noindexing blog archives and category pages, so if this has already been answered, please direct me to that post. My blog archive pages have preview text from the posts. Each time I post a blog, the last post on any given archive page shifts to the first spot on the next archive page. Moz seems to report these as new duplicate content issues each week. I have my archive pages set to meta noindex, so can I feel good about continuing to ignore these duplicate content issues, or is there something else I should be doing to prevent penalties? TIA!

Moving Some Content From Page A to Page B
Page A has written content, pictures, videos. The written content from Page A is being moved to Page B. When Google crawls the pages next time around will Page B receive the content credit? Will there not be any issues that this content originally belonged to Page A? Page A is not a page I want to rank for (just have great pictures and videos for users). Can I 301 redirect from Page A to B since the written content from A has been deleted or no need? Again, I intent to keep Page A live because good value for users to see pictures and videos.

Would Google Call These Pages Duplicate Content?
Our Web store, http://www.audiobooksonline.com/index.html, has struggled with duplicate content issues for some time. One aspect of duplicate content is a page like this: http://www.audiobooksonline.com/out-of-publication-audio-books-book-audiobook-audiobooks.html. When an audio book title goes out-of-publication we keep the page at our store and display a http://www.audiobooksonline.com/out-of-publication-audio-books-book-audiobook-audiobooks.html whenever a visitor attempts to visit a specific title that is OOP. There are several thousand OOP pages. Would Google consider these OOP pages duplicate content?

Do Collections in Shopify create Duplicate Pages according to Google/Bing/Yahoo?
I'm using the e-commerce platform Shopify to host an e-store. We've put our products into different collections. Shopify automatically creates different URL paths to a product in multiple collections. I'm worried that the same product listed in different collections is soon as different pages, and therefore duplicate content by Google/Bing/Yahoo. Would love to get your opinion on this concern! Thanks! Matthew

Duplicate Title Tag issue due to Shopify CMS
Hi guys, I'm a novice really when it comes to SEO, yet have taken it in house for the next year or so, firstly because I have had my fingers burnt twice...and secondly, to allow me to recoup some of the loss from my prior campaigns. One thing I have noticed on my site (which uses a Shopify E-commerce CMS), is that Shopify duplicates a url for each my products. An example of this is http://www.vidahomes.co.uk/collections/designer-radiators-heating/products/reina-aliano
Technical SEO | | philscott2006
http://www.vidahomes.co.uk/products/reina-aliano Both products provide exactly the same information, yet appear in different ways subject to how the customer finds them. I contacted Shopify to find a fix to this issue when I noticed a high amount of Duplicate Title Tags in my SEO crawl. Their response was as follows. Using a rel canonical link will help prevent duplicate content issues with search engines. All you need to do is add this line of code: **<link rel="canonical" href="{{ canonical_url }}" />** ** before the tag in the theme.liquid file. It’s that simple :)** The theme liquid file basically generates the outer template for the whole site, and is only compromised when over-ruled. This all seems a little too easy for me, so I am hoping whether someone can elaborate as to whether this will work or not, as I'm not entirely sold on their response. I was always under the impression with canonical tags, that they should be added to the header section of the duplicate page in question, which refers back to the original page. The code I have been told to add above implies that the canonical tag would be added to every page in my site so the Google robot would have a hard time in finding anything at all of relevance Thanks in advance for any assistance with this. Kind Regards Phil Scott Vida Homes0 -
Duplicate Page Titles and %3E, how can I avoid this?
In my crawl report I keep seeing duplicate page title warning with URL's being referenced twice: e.g. /company/ceo-message/ /company/ceo-message/%3E I'm using canonical link tags but after the new crawl report, I'm still seeing this duplicate page title crawl error. How can I avoid this? I've been looking for answers for a few days but don't seem to see this exact problem discussed. Any insight is appreciated!

Duplicate Page Content and Title for product pages. Is there a way to fix it?
We we're doing pretty good with our SEO, until we added product listing pages. The errors are mostly Duplicate Page Content/Title. e.g. Title: Masterpet | New Zealand Products MasterPet Product page1 MasterPet Product page2 Because the list of products are displayed on several pages, the crawler detects that these two URLs have the same title. From 0 Errors two weeks ago, to 14k+ errors. Is this something we could fix or bother fixing? Will our SERP ranking suffer because of this? Hoping someone could shed some light on this issue. Thanks.
