What drives the position of the local pack in a google SERP?
-
I have noticed that sometimes search results appear above the local pack, and sometimes the local pack is right at the top. What causes this? is there a way to induce it?
-
HI Mike...
I'd love to discuss with you a couple of my findings, any chance you're on Skype?
-
In general we have found that if a local site has a significantly higher PA or DA and no Local places account it will rank above the Maps.
-
I believe distance from the city center has also become extremely important. It seems this took a back seat for a while, but may have made a comeback.

Local ranking factors has a lot in common to regular search ranking factors including quality and quantity of links, content LDA score, and several other metrics.
However, there are lot of other metrics that Google generally looks at to rank a site locally.
-
local place page with correct information ( address, correct category, phone # , map icon)
-
Profiles on local directories ( superpages, citysearch.com, angielists ..)
-
Local citations (links from local directories and sites like chamber of commerce, BBB, local small business groups)
-
reviews (Google and other local websites like Yelp, citysearch, judysbook)

Hmm I'm curious about this too..
One of things I've noticed is that Google more often shows the local pack first when it's a singular search term, like "hair salon miami" and search results first when it's a plural search like "hair salons miami" I've seen this pattern a lot, so I think that might be one of the factors.

Google Places UK address has randomly changed to a US address in Texas!
Hello, one of my clients has 2 Google Places listings, both UK addresses. However one of them has randomly changed to a US address in Texas, and it won't let me update the country unless I create a new listing.... https://www.google.co.uk/maps/preview#!q=the+43+club&data=!4m16!1m15!4m8!1m3!1d22152595!2d12.5088275!3d47.73855!3m2!1i1440!2i774!4f13.1!7i10!9m1!6e0!10b1!17b1!25b1!6m1!1e1&fid=1 As you can see the second listing is Texas, but it should be: Tall Trees Cottage, Winkfield Road, Ascot, Berkshire, SL5 7EX. 0208 144 0166 Any help would be great. Multiple Vacation Rentals Local Listings
A client of ours is a vacation rental company with over 50 properties (each property is only marketed through this company). They recently asked if they could add each rental property as a listing in Google Places, Bing, Yahoo, etc. I've been doing research on whether this is advisable or can hurt them in some way. If anyone has had a similar situation, any advice would be highly appreciated. Thanks.

Carousel bumped us out of our local ranking
Nearly every post I've seen on Carousel states that "the rankings basically stay the same" but that hasn't been the case for one of my hospitality sites. The site went from being in the top 3 of local listings but when Carousel hit the site got bumped. We have high quality images, reviews, citations...we even added some newer, better photos but aside from that I'm a bit stumped as to what steps to take next. Anyone else get bumped by Carousel or have thoughts on any other factors which I might be missing out on?

Rel Author Photo when does it show in SERPS
Hi,
Image & Video Optimization | | Ant71
Ive been using Rel author recently to get my Google+ photo showing up on Google serps. Can someone enlighten me to when people would and wouldnt see it. It appears on peoples results who live near me, however when someone 60 miles away does the same search he does not see the photo just the serps result. It is not a Google+ places entry, just your normal organic result. Any thoughts welcome 🙂0 -

Google Places Listing
Hi, I have the following issue. I'm doing marketing for a restaurant. There used to be 2 restaurants under the same owner, but they ended up splitting. Now these two locations are completely different owners. The issue is that the google places listing is currently pointing to the same website. How can I change the website address of this listing without having access to the email that was used to create it? Thanks

Google Places 3rd Party Reviews...
I have a client in the wedding industry who has quite a few awesome reviews on WeddingWire and a few other wedding resources. I've looked at the competition on Google Places, and Google counts their WeddingWire reviews. However, Google is not showing or counting my client's WeddingWire reviews, when in fact my client has better ratings and more reviews. Any ideas on why this might be or how I can get Google to include these reviews for my client? Thanks so much!!
