Does poor quality on a subdomain affect a domain (with regards to Panda)?
-
We are considering moving some thin content from our site to a subdomain as a potential "panda" fix. But, we are unsure if Google will treat the subdomain as a completely separate domain or not. Does anyone have any data / Google info that might answer this question? Thanks in advance for your help!
-
the only way to inoculate the main domain if you go with a subdomain is if the topical focus of each is very different. If they're very similar, it's much more difficult to pull off. Of course if they're different enough, that's valid reason to not interlink.
If they're totally related, and there's no interlinking, it could be perceived as attempting to stuff search results with multiple entries.
-
Also, does it depend on how the subdomain is treated? I know in some cases Google will treat the subdomain as a separate domain, depending on interlinking.
-
Good suggestion, but unfortunately the content cannot be consolidated or changed (it is a directory of information). So, you do have personal experience with clients that shows that poor quality on a subdomain will affect the primary domain? Thank you!
-
I only have my own experience with clients and unfortunately can not point to case studies.
One alternative would be to consider keeping it on the main site and finding a way to consolidate some or all of it so you end up with more content per page.
-
Thank you. Can you elaborate on "entirely separately"? Exactly how separate are subdomains? Would no-indexing the content be a solution?
-
Thank you for your quick response. The "thin" content constitutes about 35% of the current traffic, and has potential for improvement in the future, so we prefer not to permanently eliminate it. We are searching for an immediate solution to show Google that content on the primary domain has improved. Do you have any external sources (google quotes) to show that poor content on a subdomain affects the primary domain as well? Thank you.

"Panda is a filter that Google has designed to spot what it believes are low-quality pages. Have too many low-quality pages, and Panda effectively flags your entire site. Being Pandified, Pandification — whatever clever name you want to call it — doesn’t mean that your entire site is out of Google. But it does mean that pages within your site carry a penalty designed to help ensure only the better ones make it into Google’s top results."From http://searchengineland.com/why-google-panda-is-more-a-ranking-factor-than-algorithm-update-82564Sub domains are not treated entirely separately. Moving content will not help, you need to improve it or lose it.

simply moving thin content, isn't advised under any circumstance, unless you don't care about organic search for the site it's on. If that is the case, then the site its on should be a stand-alone domain, not just a subdomain.
While the impact of it being on a subdomain will be less significant than the main domain, it's all part of the root domain package. Everything on a subdomain ultimately impacts the root domain and all others in that group.

1. Should we add organization schema on all pages of the website OR just homepage? 2. What is the best practice for catalog page schema as every website is following a different pattern?

Poor internal linking?
Hi guys, Have a large e-commerce site 10,000 pages as a client and they are currently not getting much organic traffic to their level 3 sub-category pages, the URLs are like: https://www.domain.com.au/category/s...-category-type These pages have been on-page optimised, category content added, yet hardly any traffic. However the site level 1, level 2 pages do quite well. So this suggests this might be an internal linking issue? The site is definitely not penalized and as enough authority for these level 3 pages to rank. Any ideas would be very much appreciated! Cheers.

Should we move a strong category page, or the whole domain to new domain?
We are debating moving a strong category page (and subcategory, product pages) from our current older domain to a new domain vs just moving the whole domain. The older domain has DA 40+, and the category page has PA 40+. Anyone with experience on how much PR etc will get passed to a virgin domain if we just redirect olddomain/strongcategorypage/ to newdomain.com? If the answer is little to none, we might consider just moving the whole site since the other categories are not that strong anyway. We will use 301 approach either way. Thanks!

Odd Results Moving Subdomain Content onto Main Domain
Hi forum! On Thursday night (12/6/12) we moved a page (and all the linking product pages) from our subdomain, mailing-list.consumerbase.com, to our main domain, www.consumerbase.com/mailing-lists.html Shockingly, today I search for "mailing lists" (our #1 target keyword) and we're on the first page! This page never has not ranked well for this keyword in the past. The problem is, the link displaying on Google is our old mailing-list.consumerbase.com subdomain URL. Did moving this content from the new subdomain to our old, well-established domain cause it to appear better in search? Or, since the URL is on the subdomain, did Google just finally get around to indexing that page? Thanks!

Noindex, Nofollow to previous domain
Hi, My programmer recently did a horrible mistkae by adding noindex, nofollow to our website without me noticing for two days. At the same time he did it we bought a new domain and redirected the old domain to the new domain: The Old domain is: http://www.websitebuildersworld.com and the new one is: http://www.websiteplanet.com Now unfortunatly I didn't notice the noindex, nofollow when it was on the old domain and I redirected it to websiteplanet.com before I fixed the noindex, nofollow. I fixed the problem around 10 hours ago on the new domain (www.websiteplanet.com) but the old domain didn't get indexed back (yet), so for example if you search for WebsiteBuildersWorld in google you will not reach the homepage as google deleted it because of the noindex, nofollow. My question is:
Intermediate & Advanced SEO | | Ouzan
Do you think that it will be fixed and google will retrieve websitebuildersworld homepage to his search results and then redirect it to websiteplanet? Or because I redirected websitebuildersworld.com to websiteplanet.com before letting google crawling websitebuildersworld.com without the noindex,no follow it wouldn't get indexed again? I hope I explained the problem good enough. Looking forward for your valuable replies. Thanks.0 -
Renaming primary domain advice
Hi, We have a site www.anteater.com.au. It's a pest control company here in Sydney Australia. Now I've just renamed it to www.anteaterpestcontrolsydney.com.au yesterday for SEO purposes. I'm doing 301 redirects. My question is, is it worth it to do this? Will we have any advantage in the long run with just this URL change? Or would it be better to just leave it as is as www.anteater.com.au Any comments would be appreciated. Cheers.
