Problems with my bounce rate for my site
-
Hi on my site Weight Loss Hypnotherapy site i have a bonce rate off 55.1 where up to now 60 people have stayed on the site for less than one sec and i would like to know how to combat this and how to keep people on the site for longer.
I have tried playing around with the content but i am thinking about adding images to make the page look better but would like the advice from others.
many thanks for your help.

First thing first, where do you get that number from? is it from alexa ? or google analytics ? or any other sources?
In my opinion if you had a bounce rate that high showed up on google analytics, than you really need to made a further research where this bouncing visitors are coming from
Other than that, i would suggest you to improve your overall site design , some of the reason is explained here ( http://www.seomoz.org/blog/replicate-googles-panda-questionnaire-whiteboard-friday ), a site that looked good potentially attract customer and encourage them to stay a while and surf deeper .. (unless of course if your website is nike.com , where the brand trust can easily overshadow the lack of good site design)

Hi Diane
You might want to try some segmenting in analytics to see where the bounce rate is coming from. Is it 60% across the board? Or can you find places where it is higher/lower than the average by more than 10%?
Some places to start looking for differences would be:
Organic vs direct vs reffering?
New vs return visits?
All keywords or just particular ones?
Then that way, you can determine if your getting poor quality traffic (ie people coming to your site looking for something other than what your site offers).
If the wrong people are finding your site, with the wrong intent, this could skew results.
Also, very important - remember a "bounce" doesn't tell you how long they were on the page. They could land on the page, stay for 5 minutes and even call the phone number, and then leave the page, and this is all still a bounce. And this particular page seems to give all the information about the topic without necessarily having to navigate around much.
Are you measuring conversions some how on the other end?

Hi Diane,
This page/site has a high level of links to content ratio (especially footer). Images themselves I don't think will do a lot for your bounce rate. Also it doesn't appear to have a very clear value proposition for users on what you are offering. For lack of a better term it looks like spam. When I looked at results for weight loss hypnotherapy they all seem to look this way too.
If it were me, and I did have a real service, I would probably look at some other industry category type services like massage therapy, or acupuncture, the quality of the presentation looks a lot better and a lot less spammy.
So maybe by cleaning up all the excess linkage, and cleaning up the presentation layer you might get a lot of bounce rate improvement?
Hope that helps.

Deceptive site warning from Google: Java script and meta descriptions deployed.
Hi all, We received a deceptive site warning from Google recently. Seems like there is a deceptive content on some pages of the website. Some pages are removed from Google index. Meta descriptions have been deployed on the site few days ago. There is also java script on the website which we use for tracking visitors like GA. I wonder what's the reason for this alert? We believe its due to the Java script. Do you think meta descriptions will harm this bad? Any ideas? Thanks

Direct 100+ URLs to our sister site?
Hi, We have two websites www.eurekasolutions.co.uk and www.eurekaaddons.co.uk - currently the eurekasolutions site has eureka addon products on it - we are thinking of re-directing these to www.eurekaaddons.co.uk instead (there are 100+ pages which are being ranked and picked up by google) Would it be foolish to re-direct these from eurekasolutions straight to eurekaaddons after them being on eurekasolutions for many many years? if so what is the best way to go about it and would this have a direct negative effect on our SEO? Both sites are serving for similar terms. Thanks,

Displaying different site content to users who have already visited your site
I've seen and heard about the concept of treating repeat site visitors differently, displaying different content based on behavior etc. Not sure what it's called buy Hubspot seems to offer something like this with their platform. Anyone know of a third party app (Wordpress perhaps) or tool that does this? How does this even work? Thanks for the help!!

Time Spend on Site from Smartphone vs Desktop
On a website with a well optimized website for smartphones, how long time should one expect the average user spends on the website - from their smartphone - as a % of the time users spends from a desktop.

Example: if average user spends 10min on the site from a desktop, is 5min (50% of..) a decent number to expect? If anyone has any done any studies or have data on this, would be appreciated. thank you0 -

Click through rate crashing...
I have been on a pretty big content upgrade on my websites. More content 5 pages to 14 pages 100 words to 500+ words per page More images More alt tags This has increased my traffic & my click through rates due to a massive increase in impressions. But because the impressions have gone up so much further my CTR had crashed. I have gone from : 500--> 50 to 4500 -->70 In one month. (Taken from Google webmaster tools) Will having a much lower CTR hurt my ranking in the long run? In the end I want more phone calls about my service so far I'm not yet seeing that conversion happening.

Google Analytics Benchmarking Newsletter: How does your site perform?
With Google recently releasing benchmarking data I am curious as to what you all see across the various types of website niches that you work with (eCommerce, news, blog, services, small business, etc). And how SEO'd websites compare with this "raw" data provided by google. We have one medium size (12,000 products) strictly eCommerce website that has a bounce rate of 37% and an avg time on site of 5:20 While two other medium size eCommerce/blog sites have a bounce rate of 57% and 59% with average time on site of 2:37 and 2:30 respectively. Finally, I manage a website for a local small business that provides business and home cleaning services. This site has a bounce rate of 45% and 1:40 average time on site. How do your sites perform in these areas? Is it typical to see this great of a disparity between strict eCommerce websites and those sites that are both informational and transactional in nature? What about other kinds of websites? Cheers!
