Question about Google News Sitemap
-
I'm submitting my site to Google News, have a few questions for creating my sitemap.
The majority of my articles (800) are in a category called 'Disability News' (which is one of my main keywords). Around half of these posts are we're automated RSS feed posts (first 200 words of an article directly copied with a link thru to the original).
The past few weeks I've been posting tons of unique content so I was thinking about moving all duplicate content into a category called 'Syndicated News' and excluding that from my Google News sitemap.
Is this advisable? or should I just leave it as is?

I'm pretty sure you won't get in with just aggregated news, but can have some (though I'm thinking far less than half).
This - http://www.google.com/support/forum/p/news/thread?tid=73066884b4c853e1&hl=en - suggests to only submit original content.
Alternatively - http://googlenewsblog.blogspot.com/2010/11/credit-where-credit-is-due.html - says you can add the source or canonical tag to give credit back to the originating site (and likely look far more trustworthy when someone checks.
I had a dig around for when I last got a site into Google News but couldn't find actual content guidelines.
Here's the guidelines I could find about when making a submission:
Provide a good historical background of the site
Show awards the site received
Give stats on the site
Tell them about your editors and authors (I think you need 3 editors :s)
Tell them about who links to your site
Make sure you are news related or mostly news related.
Make sure your site complies with the technical requirements, and show them that is does.Having author bio pages I believe is also a plus.
You can always submit it and see what feedback you are given.

'rehashing' ? So even if I write a intro to an article and link through google will reject me?
Here is my website;
Should I maybe only submit a sitemap of my Feature Stories (100% original and written by us?)
http://ablemagazine.co.uk/articles/feature-story/
There's only 16 articles in here at the moment (last issue) but we have another 17 years of issues (6 issues per year/ 10-20 articles per issue) I have access too.

News sitemaps only look at the last 3 days worth of stuff, however you will probably get a real person have a look to see if you qualify so could be worth moving them if it just looks like you're simply rehashing material.
You'll also probably get rejected the first time you submit, so always double check you conform to the guidelines and submit again (it's really a way to weed out people that know they shouldn't be in there).

My Question About SEO
I'm working on a new website and attempting to make it as efficient as possible. I've put it through a few scanners and have a few concerns. Is it true that having long titles is beneficial? My contact page, for example, is just titled contact, while my FAQ page is simply titled commonly asked questions. What about meta descriptions for each page? Do they still serve a purpose nowadays? Because my site title is a graphic header, having a big text title doesn't really suit with the style, the H1 tag is missing on a few pages. Is there any way to get around this?

Does Google Dislike Slideshows?
I've noticed a recent drop in organic traffic and a slight dip in rankings. When I looked at who replaced us in the top spots, I noticed text heavy, in depth articles. We produce many articles in the slideshow format. Do you think this is the reason our rankings dropped?

Online Publisher networks (Splash Press) Question
Hi, If you can get into a network as a writer it's great because you can expose your brand on high auth websites without the hassle of having to build a relationship with each site - once your in, your into all the websites on the network. So question is, isn't this going to be bad for SEO, I assume all the websites are on the same server and I have seen some where they interlink in the network. Apart from that though they look really great, good fresh content, high DA/PA, lots of social activity etc. A couple I have come across are: Splash Press & Alloy Digital (If you know of any more please post them up).

How Google judge about duplicate content?
With recent Search engines updates one thing is clear we cannot ignore content. Content marketing definitely going to be most important part of our SEO strategy. I have few doubts about content marketing (circulation of content over web) where I want suggestions of community members. There would be different thoughts so I would like to have as many as responses to know what majority thinks: When we are writing guest posts, does article needs to be unique with each and every blog we are writing or we can safely circulate one good piece of content to 10-15 blogs who are interested in our creative. We have written a good blog post for our own domain. Apart from social sharing should it be posted to other related blogs too or it should be unique to our domain only. Social sharing, mentions, like of blog matters in rankings?Seems yes they do but need to know what majority thinks. Finally what is the safe number to circulate your content over web.

Yahoo News Feed
As part of my site I'd like to repost relevant Yahoo News stories related to my keyword. I have a plugin that will automatically retrieve them each day and put them into draft status so I can make sure they're relevant before publishing them. I plan to make this a separate section and give the appropriate credit to Yahoo News. I'm not necessarily doing this to GAIN SEO rankings but if that came of it, that would be a bonus. Question - would I be HURTING myself by doing this?

My WebSite has two sections with overlapping, or redundant articles on the same topics. Google is only listing one or the other article in Search Results. What should I do to have both pages (similiar but unique content ) to be listed?

Your Site and Google News Question
My site has been in Google News for about 3 years. Over the weekend, I received this message from Google Hi John, We periodically review news sources, to ensure Google News offers a high quality experience for our users. When we reviewed your site, mainstreetmonroe.com, we found that we can no longer include it in Google News at this time. We reviewed your site and are unable to include it in Google News at this time. We can't include sites that don't have a formal editorial-review process for submitted content. If this exists on your site, please let us know where and we'll be happy to review your site again. Mainstreetmonroe is scheduled to be removed from Google News for a period of at least 30 days. After this 30-day period has elapsed, you can re-apply for inclusion in Google News provided your site meets our guidelines. We appreciate your assistance in this matter. Please note that you'll still be able to find your site in Google Web Search and other Google services. Thanks for your interest in Google News. Regards, The Google News Team What exactly do they mean? I submitted my website news section, but they have been displaying our forum area in the news too. I think the forum is what GN is talking about. What is the best way to fix this problem? Move the forum to a subdomain?
