Local Flower Shop Needing Better Rankings Fast??
-
We run a family-owned flower shop that used to be #1-5 in several areas in Google a couple years ago.
Now it seemed with all of the Panda, Penguin and other updates in Google that we have become almost Non-existent online. We used old Link-building tactics that are no longer good like before.
We have a regular Wordpress Site/Landing Page and an Ecommerce website. The Landing Page used to rank first page all the time (now it's not ranked) and now the Ecommerce site shows up more often. But still nowhere where we need to be.
We just need to get ranked on Google Places and/or first page in Google again.
Please assist with strategies, systems or ideas??
Thank you,
Luke

Hi Luke,
There's certainly not a quick answer, especially if you've been penalized.
#1 thing I would do is claim as many local directory listings as possible and make sure your site is properly localized from a keyword stand-point.
I've worked with lots of local florists, and still do, including my own wife's shop. I'd be happy to have a look for you.

If you can nail down a date that you saw a specific rankings drop, it would help to diagnose the issue - 24th is when Penguin rolled out. I believe the most recent Panda version happened on the 19th. Anything before that may have been Panda, too.
Would you be comfortable sharing the URL?

Bede,
They had been up and down but relatively #1-3 for a year or so. Then I think it was close to around the same time Google did all the Panda updates. Now since the Penguin update none of them consistently show on Google. It seems like every other day there is a differant website that is #1-5.
-
Out of interest, when did your rankings drop?
-
Thanks Mark. I have done all of those SEO efforts in the past and was #1-3 on Google Places, but now I'm no longer there. I have contacted you though about the referral.

I will check to see if I have any messages from Google. Thanks.

You need google places citations and reviews.
You need to make sure that your google places listing is SEO optimized; pictures; seo keywords; description; etc.
You need to do some offpage seo to counteract the old link building issues. Focus on geotargeted keywords in your specific area.
If you have multiple locations, make sure every location is listed correctly in google places.
Make sure your wordpress site is seo optimized.....are you using an seo plugin?
If you don't have the time and need some quick results I can refer you to a small firm we use that has fixed pricing and doesn't get paid until they get you ranked in google places....no brainer....
Hope this helps.

Start by visiting your Google Webmaster Tools account and read (and deal with) any messages from Google!
If you start from zero, make sure to deal with all "three legs" (1.Text, 2.Technical stuff and 3.Links) of SEO and find a good IRTA guide or hire professionals.

Parked Domains and Local SEO
Hi, I wanted to know what your thoughts were on **Parked Domains **and Local SEO. I came across a company that has a lot of parked domains that were created for different countries. i.e. xxxxx.co.uk, xxxxx.ch, xxxxx.com etc. The content they load are from the main domain xxxxx.com I went to a country specific Google search, for instance google.co.uk and google.ch Searched for the company name and xxxxx.com showed up, not the parked domains that existed for each "country" No analytics exist as the tracking code is on xxxxx.com so I can't see if any specific traffic goes to xxxxx.ch, or other domains. From my understand, parked domains lead to unnecessary duplicate content. So why have them? Simply setup a redirect to xxxxx.com from the parked domain. But are there benefits for Local SEO? Search engines like google will still see the domain as a separate entity if no redirect is in place. If so, I realise content has to be unique..but it raises a question... Why have parked domains at all apart from stopping your competitors or users typing other variance of your URL? What do you guys think?

Competitor Ranks Highly Despite LOTS of Duplication
One of my Moz campaigns tracks my main competitor. I can't get over the fact that this competitor continues to rank well despite having thousands of duplication issues while I currently have less than 10. Our websites are similar both structurally and product-wise. The two images attached include OSE comparisons for the keyword "kraft envelopes". My competitor ranks #2 for the term, while I rank #9. I don't get why! And again, looking from a top-level perspective, MOZ shows that my competitor's website is full of duplication issues and other problems while my site is healthy as a horse. All responses are greatly appreciated. QmSlfET.jpg 9CDny60.jpg

Rankings Report - figures clarifiction
I've noticed a possible discrepancy with my data and the figures in the Ranking Report >> Rankings which leads to this question: In top 3 : 10 On first page: 19 Is this meant to mean 10 of the 19 are in the top 3, or after the 10 top 3 there are 19 more keywords on first page?

Geo / Location-Based Local or City Level Rank Tracking in SEOmoz
Is location-based rank tracking going to be a feature in SEOmoz any time soon? I've seen in a few other company's tools that I can select a city in which to center the search around, for example... if I track the keyword "pizza" and set it to check rankings for "Seattle", it would give me different results than I've I selected "Milwaukee". The reason for the variation in results is due to maps listings in the results sometimes. So, my question is, will location-based rank tracking be coming to SEOmoz soon? Scott

Rankings in Google.be - 3 languages
As the site of my customers is in 3 languages, I also want to monitor the rankings in 3 languages. I do have the possibility to monitor them in seomoz: google.be english google.be dutch google.be french However, in the report (http://pro.seomoz.org/campaigns/227154/rankings) I do see the 3 columns, but the title is only google.be, WITHOUT the language selection. Not really helpfull... Any advice? oNDu9

Ability to have .csv files automatically emailed on a weekly basis (after rankings are updated)?
Hi I am not sure if this is the proper place to post this. I was wondering if there are any plans to add automated emails to SEOMOZ Pro. Each week I find myself logging into SEOMOZ Pro to pull csv files across several profiles (I use PRO Elite), does SEOMOZ have any plans to add this functionality sometime in the future? All I need is an email to be sent to a specific email address after the ranking report has been updated. SEOMOZ staff - Great job on the tool, definitely the best ranking tool I have ever used. Thanks, Chris Phillips
