Where is my 404?
-
Hi all,
I just signed as a PRO in Seomoz(yes, I am noob) and in the crawl diagnostics it says I have got a couple of 404.
first one is a typo but I just can't find where it is on my website; any idea?
second, it is a page I deleted
third, it is a page with double subdomain
ie it works with sitename/country/services
404: sitename/country/country/services

Doug is spot on - its just that easy. Those csv exports literally tell you everything you need to know.
Sameer is also recommending a good tool, Xenu, if you don't want to use your crawl report. However, Xenu can cause issues (rare) with sites with dynamic content, or it can just keep crawling forever with newer dynamic sites.

You can get this from your SEOMoz crawl report! No need to run your site through another tool (although your might wish to out of preference)
From the Crawl Diagnostics, you can download your crawl report by exporting it as a CSV file. There's a little drop down and an "Export" button on the top right corner of the page.
Once you've downloaded and opened the CSV file you can filter on the 4XX (Client Error) column and then look all the way over to the right hand side to the "referrer" column which will show you the page that had the bad link.
If you've got a whole bunch of 404s to work through you can use the CSV file to mark them off as you go!
Hope this helps!

Please follow these steps
1. Download Xenu Link Sleuth
2. Install & Run Xenu Link sleuth
3. Run Report & Copy all 404 pages on your site
4. Now fix broken links with technical resource.
5. If you dont want to put page which you have removed i.e. 404: sitename/country/country/services
redirect it to ideal candidate. i,e, to main category or similar page.
If you need further help for redirection, let me know
first one is typo - Please take help from programmer/designer to fix this error.
second error - It is about page, so please fix this with adding same page or using 301
Third one error - sitename/country/country/services fix it with 301 to appropriare page, or main category.
-
You also see them in webmaster tools from Google
second, it is a page I deleted this needs a 301
-
run your site on brokenlinkcheck.com
this will show you the exact URL where the 404 was found and the actual line of code in the source code where the broken link is.

Moz-Specific 404 Errors Jumped with URLs that don't exist
Hello, I'm going to try and be as specific as possible concerning this weird issue, but I'd rather not say specific info about the site unless you think it's pertinent. So to summarize, we have a website that's owned by a company that is a division of another company. For reference, we'll say that: OURSITE.com is owned by COMPANY1 which is owned by AGENCY1 This morning, we got about 7,000 new errors in MOZ only (these errors are not in Search Console) for URLs with the company name or the agency name at the end of the url. So, let's say one post is: OURSITE.com/the-article/ This morning we have an error in MOZ for URLs OURSITE.com/the-article/COMPANY1 OURSITE.com/the-article/AGENCY1 x 7000+ articles we have created. Every single post ever created is now an error in MOZ because of these two URL additions that seem to come out of nowhere. These URLs are not in our Sitemaps, they are not in Google... They simply don't exist and yet MOZ created an an error with them. Unless they exist and I don't see them. Obviously there's a link to each company and agency site on the site in the about us section, but that's it.

404 errors High Priority Issues in Moz Pro: change to 301 or not ?
Hi there, Moz Pro is showing us 404 errors on our site as High Priority Issues. These 404 errors regard deleted product pages, which we did not 301. Should we 301 them all backwards ? We have an ecommerce site. After reading How Should You Handle Expired Content? on Moz and a few other Q&A discussions I now know we should 301 each expired url and now we do so. My concern is with what was done in the past, and what we should do about it: for the past few years we have been leaving the pages on the site, creating a big amount of outdated url's without either content nor traffic in march our IT decided to delete these url's, and ask for a webpage removal in Google Search Console: we 301 only a 40 url's and 404 the other 3500 now 6 monthts after, we still have 2500 crawl errors in the Search Console, and Moz Pro finding each week new 404 errors Our SEO consultant says we should not bother about the errors shown in the Search Console. But I am concerned about these errors not reducing, and about Moz Pro High Priority Issues: should we 301 the url's to similar categories or products?

The crawl report shows a lot of 404 errors
They are inactive products, and I can't find any active links to these product pages. How can I tell where the crawler found the links?

SEOMoz reports and 404 errors
My SEOMoz report shows a 404 error, found today for this url: http://globalheavyhaul.com/google.com i do not have this anchor text anywhere on my website. How did Roger figure out that somebody looked for that page? Do I need to worry about 404 errors that are the result of user mistakes, instead of actual bad links?

High level of 404 client errors
My clients website is an e-commerce based website, where customers can go on and buy products etc from the website. I placed the website onto seomoz and it cam eback with something like 18,000 errors, mostly 404 client errors, when I checked to see what the URL was from, it was a summary of an order to a client who just purchased something from the website, this was the case for alot of the errors. So i am wondering, will this harm the site's optimisation or any other part of it? and how can I get rid of these errors? Many Thanks Charlene

404 errors in SEOMoz crawl tool
I currently have several 404 errors in the latest crawls from SEOMoz. Here is an example of the error. http://dealerplatform.com/blog/2011/10/23/videos-for-auto-dealers/www.dealerplatform.com/ In all cases the error is a result of www.dealerplatform.com being added to the real url. Anyone seen this before? The site is a wordpress mutlisite. I don't see where this incorrect link is showing up anywhere on the website. Any advice would be helpful. Thanks

HTTP 404 for 404-page?
Hi Mozzers! SEOmoz just finished crawling one of my websites and this crawl found 3 errors. One of these errors was the (custom) 404-page, because of the http-status 404. What's you suggestion about this? Should a 404-page have a status 404? Thanks in advance for your suggestions!
