and wondering what is wrong in terms of on page SEO (basically just want some feedback on tips/changes to make) http://www.stevenholmesstudio.com/ I'm assuming that the title shouldn't be just the img file name..any suggestions for what it should be?

Hi Erik,
Yes, you were correct. I was in IE. Ah, yes, in Firefox, much better, but George's comments below are very good. I would definitely follow his advice. Good luck!

Hey Erik!
Basically the way the page is created causes major issues.
On http://www.stevenholmesstudio.com - you have the About (and other) page texts. "Steven Holmes is a commercial photographer, videographer and musician, specializing in studio and environmental portraiture, short-form documentary video and music for picture."
The "About page" has the exact same text. The site is very limited on text but it's all repeated on the individual pages.
I agree with George about the .js file as well.

You are correct. You shouldn't be using just the IMG filename for the page title.
One suggestion would be to add alt attributes to your images and use the alt text to populate your titles. The alt text would describe the image it is attached to.
Another suggestion would be to come up with a title for each picture, but still provide an alt attribute with descriptive text and then use the alt text to populate the meta description tag instead. I prefer this one, but it requires more work.
I see you are using HTML5 to produce the same effects provided by the Flash site. I'm not as familiar with HTML5 as I should be, but a lot of your markup doesn't lend to helping crawlers so maybe updating your markup would help. What I mean is: your JavaScript spills out into the bottom of your HTML document and could be included in an external ".js" file. This would help clean up the HTML some. The same is true for your CSS.
One final note: you don't need to use the meta keywords tag any longer if you don't want to. Also, all of your page descriptions are the same for all of your HTML5 pages. You are using a canonical link to your home page, but if you could use different descriptions once you get your title tag issue figured out I believe it will help your pages when indexed individually.

Hi Dana -
are you looking at it on IE? A flash version is shown to IE Versions since those aren't super great on HTML 5 features.
any chance you could look at it on firefox and look at the title while in a gallery on an image.
thanks for your feedback.

My first suggestion would to take the site, which appears to be 100% flash-based, and put the flash in an HTML wrapper. Search engines cannot crawl 100% flash sites very well at all. It's going to be hard to get the saite to rank wellI would do that before starting to do anything else. Once that's done, go to work on optimizing page titles. Refrain from using all caps. A good title for the homepage of this site (once it's in an HTML wrapper) might be:
Steven Holmes Studio Photography
If you look at the site in google by typing site:http://www.stevenholmesstudio.com in the search box, you'll see that Google is indexing the individual images (but not very well), but not really any of the content. An HTML wrapper should fix that. All of the images also need "alt" text describing the photos for accessibility reasons (people who are using screen readers, etc).
Hope that's helpful!

Integrate a blog within an existing site
Hello everyone! I work on a website of a very small company and so far no one has ever implemented (not even thought about) a proper content strategy. The only content on the site are products description. Through Analytics I discovered lots of opportunities and topics to be covered which would massively increase the traffic, increase the engagement and (hopefully) sales. Problem is that I don't really know how to integrate a blog into the existing site; my first thought was wordpress What is the best way to do it?

Dropping Old Site After Too Many Penalties. What Do You Think About the New One?
I finally decided to drop my website after it kept losing traffic even though I spent hundreds of hours and lots of $$$ trying to recover from both Panda and Penguin. I should've started a new website a lot earlier. So here's my new website, let me know if it's worthy of Big G: http://www.webhostinghero.com/ Thank you in advance for your constructive comments!

Site structure suggestions/feedback
I asked this on Reddit and got some some decent answers. I'm curious to see what the pro's of SEOmoz think. I've got a lead generation site for forklift parts--liftxparts.com. You can think of it similar to car parts, where we have sections for specific brands (e.x. Toyota forklift parts) and sections for specific categories (e.x. forklift filters). Right now, the site is structured in two main levels: the top level is a dozen or so brands (separate pages for Toyota forklift parts, Clark forklift parts, etc), and then the second level is the categories (separate pages for a dozen or so different categories like forklift filters, forklift engine parts, etc.).If you check out one of the pages, like Clark forklift parts for example (our top landing page)--liftxparts.com/clark-forklift-parts.html, you'll see that on the brand pages (they're all structured the same), we list all the different categories (with links to the same second level category pages) and "search" buttons. All pages point to the same lead capture form. This has been working pretty well--about 90% of visitors end up on our lead capture form, and a high percentage of those convert. We're working on increasing organic traffic now and I'm thinking our structure could use some improvement.Looking at the analytics, there are a lot more impressions for keywords like "clark forklift" than "clark forklift parts". One gap I've uncovered is while our average position, and by extension CTR and traffic, for phrases like "clark forklift parts" is quite good, it's not so good for broader and higher searched terms like "clark forklift". Should we add another level of hierarchy targeted to just general brands? So now we have content for clark forklift parts, but should we add a page for terms like "clark forklift"? Or should we just add some broader content to the existing brand pages? The pages are quite long already, I'm afraid adding more content to the bottom of the page isn't very functional. Our thinking is that we can increase average position for higher searched terms by adding content targeted to those terms. The question is how exactly to go about it and how to work it into our current site structure? Any feedback related to our site structure or even just related ideas about other ways to approach our goal of increasing organic traffic would be very much appreciated! Thanks!

Best practice for introducing new landing page to my site?
I have a client, and want to know the best way to add new, keyword specific landing pages to their site and link to it in a logical way that isn't spammy. Example: My homepage targets “Adelaide Cars” I also want to target “Melbourne Cars” which I would do via a targeted landing page. How then would I logically link to this landing page? As Google gets better at spotting un-natural content, I’d like to know how to introduce this new page to get the best traction. If I was to just create the page, it would not make sense to have it in the main navigation. Same goes from various industry type terms. Eg. pest control and exterminator. How do you target both and still have a logical sitemap and page structure that Google will like and make sense to users.

Why does Google no longer like our site?
Hey guys, I'm trying to figure out why the traffic and rankings have been plummeting on www.readprint.com. It's a collection of both public domain books and books on Amazon's store. If anyone can offer any pointers as to if it's duplicate content or ??? It used to get 300K visits/mo but has slowly been dropping over the last year. I appreciate anyone's expertise!

Monitor site loading speeds
We all know that site loading speed is important for google ( and getting more important), and currently we are considering moving to a dedicated server. But I would like to measure pur current loading times and compare them to our competitors. I know that webmaster tools shows you your loading times, but its seems a bit random with its results, and I know analytics also now records speed, but the sample sizes seems to be too low. When I googled website load times, I got a load of different free tools but they seem to give conflicting results e.g one said that our avg kb load time was 0.02sec and our competitor was 0.01, but a different site says our sites loads in 1.7 secs and our competitor loads in 11sec (our home pages have similar total file size for our homepage. ) Also what would be useful would be a way to monitor of website loading speed to see when it slows down, so we can figure out why. Does anyone know of any good reliable programs or sites that does this?
