Can someone clarify the importance of Scribe SEO?
-
Hi guys,
I was reading The Beginner's Guide to SEO and was confused about the importance of keyword density.
As I see it, the main purpose of tools like Scribe SEO revolve around analyzing keyword density, however, Chapter 9 of "The Beginner's Guide to SEO" seems to downplay its importance and says
"Despite being proven untrue time and again, this myth has legs. Many SEO tools still feed on the concept that keyword density is an important metric. It's not."
If this is true, what is the real value of tools like Scribe SEO? Currently, I follow keyword analysis tools very closely, and try to get the recommended density in my articles to help build back links. Should I be focusing heavily on the density and prominence of keywords like I am in the picture below, or is there another way you suggest I go about using these tools?

As the co-creator of Scribe I am more than happy to address your question.
First, Scribe is not a keyword density checking tool. It is designed to help writers in creating and structuring their content so search engines can better "understand" and index the content.
Second, Scribe contains a number of other features including keyword research/analysis, internal link organization and intelligent ways to connect your content with other sites through online relationship building tools. For a complete overview please go to http://scribecontent.com/demo/ for a video overview.
As to your specific point.
While density does not matter, frequency does. In information retrieval, term frequency is a very important part of most publish search algorithms used at conferences like TReC, etc. To see its importance, there are several excellent mathematical examples at http://www.miislita.com/ . Please note that Dr Garcia, who publishes at this site and was a consultant to us on Scribe v4, is the one that penned the epic "Keyword Density of Non sense" post that disputed the role of density as a ranking factor.
A key component of "understanding" content is both in the analysis of term frequency and term placement. While density calculations, when done properly, do provide some insight as to relative usage; the reality is that most all search systems review term frequency and weight it with other factors in order to determine the probability that a specific document is related to the query.
I think that Moosa H makes a good point in that you do want to write for humans first. Scribe helps you improve your writing to make it easier for search engines to understand what you are writing about.
Samer, thank you for your question and I hope my response provides some clarification to your question.

Have a watch of this video by Matt Cutts, where he explains that the one thing people should NOT focus on is keyword density.

Keyword density is a real shit and i guess i have talked about this a million times and i have some strong logic behind this...
1. Write for Humans not Machines
Besides search engine, there are humans who must be more important than any other machine on earth (even more important than Google) because they pay you the real money. If you are going to care too much about keywords and not caring about how that will impact user experience you might win the rankings but might not win customers and all you will gain out of it will be the increase in bounce rate (may be some un-loyal customers).
2. Google is changing
Google is changing like anything... so getting top rankings for your desired key phrases just by keeping a good percentage of keyword density in it, might not work...
Why not play natural?
It’s good to be natural. It’s good to write for humans and not machines...so don’t really care about the density of keyword in the document but care more about how people will react to it.
Scribe SEO?
This software seems promising to me in a one go as it allows you to extract what’s hot from difference resources and get you the topics that will be most attracted to your audience in the current times.
Calculating keyword density can be a part of it but i don’t think they are based on this... so go creative and use this tool to get suggestions but relying on any tool (even SEOmoz) will be dangerous as this industry love quick changes...

The pricing is insane too. It's not worth putting the money and effort into using the software. It's just the hype copyblogger team is doing.

About 5 years ago, I would rank pages for just about any moderately competitive phrase under the sun, pretty much by boosting as close to 5.5% keyword density as possible on a domain with a good bit of trust. That mentality that you see in Scribe SEO could still gain some ground, but it's a little antiquated.
The issue that over time, Google's gotten smarter (and continues to do so). Including keywords still matters, and not over-doing it does as well. What's changed, is that Google has gotten better at understanding language. Sure, you could stuff "cheap london flights" 15 times into a copy and probably still make it make sense if you really try, but should you?
Everything that you see Microsoft Word doing, analyzing grammar and reading levels, you can bet Google is capable of doing too. And it's pretty well-established now that things like root word stemming (+s, +ed, +ing) and synonyms play too. That sort of thing is more enjoyable for a reader too, so it stands to reason that Google would prefer it. And, from what I've seen in recent years, it seems to look more and more like they do.
So, I'd include keywords/phrases. I'd include them especially in first 1/3 of a sentence, paragraph, and page; lead in noun-first. But I wouldn't let it dictate your writing too much from there.

Can Segment capture organic traffic? If so is it more reliable than Google Analytics?
Hi mozzers, We just learned that our standard GA hasn't been as reliable as we hoped so and we are trying to find other ways to track organic sessions. Which solution would you consider? Is Segment one of them? If so, is it more reliable than Google Analytics? Thanks

Can the end of a competition cause a drop in organic visitors?
Hi everyone, Over the last six months I've been running a few competitions on my largest site, but noticed a very large decrease in organic sessions just after the third one ended. For reference, the site is ~10 years old and gets a couple of million sessions per month.Organic sessions throughout last year and before the holiday periods were around 800k/month, which then increased by 50% during the holiday period alongside a competition I ran. These competitions double the pages per session and add another 1.5 minutes onto session duration. At the end of one of the competitions this year, daily organic sessions halved overnight and are now below the baseline of last year - and not improving. Some possible causes include; Google update - unlikely, because the date of the drop doesn't coincide with any increase in SERP volatility that I can find The extremely quick overnight drop in engagement (pages/session and session duration falling back to pre-comp baseline) caused Google to believe our site to be less popular and thus less deserving of rankings Visitors who've been bombarded with month-long competitions are sick of seeing them and are not searching for my site so often Email tagging - in the week before, UTM tracking parameters were added to all emails (of which there are a lot of subscribers) - as the number of Email visitors in Analytics increased, Organic did slightly decrease at the same time. I think this is unlikely, but I wonder if somehow some of our email visitors were previously being classed as Organic as well as some being Direct Incorrectly tagged as Direct - at the same time as the organic drop, Direct traffic doubled - it has since decreased back to just above the Direct baseline, however Organic has not improved I'd just be interested to know if anyone has any experience with something similar happening and, if so, what do you think the cause was and how did you rectify it? Thank you very much for your input in advance!

How can I remove parameters from the GSC URL blocking tool?
Hello Mozzers My client's previous SEO company went ahead and blindly blocked a number of parameters using the GSC URL blocking tool. This has now caused Google to stop crawling many pages on my client's website and I am not sure how to remove these blocked parameters so that they can be crawled and reindexed by Google. The crawl setting is set to "Let Google bot decide" but still there has been a drop in the number of pages being crawled. Can someone please share their experience and help me delete these blocked parameters from GSC's URL blocking tool. Thank you Mozzers!

How to transfer 5 domains under one Brand domain without using 301 redirect with minimum SEO loss
My situation is rather complicated , I have 5 domains with different but identical services. Some with good traffic some without, but 2 main domains have manual penalty from Google (I have tried a lot to get rid of the penalty but no success) so finally I have decided to move all our websites under one anchor website 'a brand' and pass all the seo juice + blog articles under the same. Now the problem with the procedure is that we cannot redirect the penalized domain urls to new one as penalization will also be transferred and the whole motive of creating a new brand will be lost. So if somebody could guide me as of how I should proceed transferring SEO value with minimum traffic loss but without using 301) **One way I could figure out is using canonical (Am not confident over it) but say I create 5 identical pages on new domain and declare them as canonical of old domain pages (So is it safe? will it transfer the penalty of old domain to canonical new urls? ) ** Rest i am bifurcating all the traffic sources like direct / organic / referral / Social etc and chalking out what we can control manually and in what ratio, gradually I will work on each section to transfer the traffic. Main Problem is of Organic and Not available. Some suggestions or blog urls would be appreciated.

Question for SEO experts!
I am checking my competition with all the metrics available and I have no clue why we are not coming up higher in ranking on Google. It's been 3 months and we've been bouncing between 9 and 7 position. One competitor just came out of nowhere with almost 600 internal links and few external links and occupied 3rd spot. I've built pretty good portfolio of links with links even coming from Google for crying out loud. My on page optimization is very good, we've even passed W3C with no errors. At least 3 of our competitors above us have less Domain Authority, Page Authority, Back links for external domains, number of external domains, etc... Not sure what is going on. We are not really trying to be the top dog in Google all the time, but it is the principle of a thing. Keyword is Laser Marking. Our domain starts with cms. Don't want to type the whole URL because Google might crawl (maybe a bit of paranoid at this point LOL) Any suggestions?

How can I capture search terms and forward it along with my contact form?
I would like to be able to capture the keywords when someone comes to my site with a PPC click or a keyword search. I can't imagine that this is an uncommon request, but I can't find the tools that would let me do that, or heck something that will help me build it myself. What is everyone using to capture search information from people who contact you?
