Handling a Huge Amount of Crawl Errors
-
HI all,
I am faced with a crawl errors issue of a huge site (>1MiO pages) for which I am doing On-page Audit.
-
404 Erorrs: >80'000
-
Soft 404 Errors: 300
-
500 Errors: 1600
All of the above reported in GWT.
Many of the error links are simply not present on the pages "linked from". I investigated a sample of pages (and their source) looking for the error links footprints and yet nothing.
What would be the right way to address this issue from SEO perspective, anyway? Clearly. I am not able to investigate the reasons since I am seeing what is generated as HTML and NOT seeing what's behind.
So my question is: Generally, what is the appropriate way of handling this?
-
Telling the client that he has to investigate that (I gave my best to at least report the errors)
-
Engaging my firm further and get a developer from my side to investigate?
Thanks in advance!!

Usually an on page audit lists all of the problems and possible reasons why they are happening, not in depth info on how to fix all the issues. That is usually the next phase, "do you want me to work on the site or do you want your dev team to track down the cause of the issues and fix them"
It also depends what type of contract you have with him of course.

What to do with removed pages and 404 error
I recently removed about 600 'thin' pages from my site which are now showing as 404 errors in WMT as expected. As I understand it I should just let these pages 404 and eventually they'll be dropped from the index. There are no inbound links pointing at them so I don't need to 301 them. They keep appearing in WMT as 404's though so should I just 'mark as fixed' until they stop appearing? Is there any other action I need to take?

Massive increase in Moz crawl.
I have a subdomain which has just started to be crawled by Moz, Previously this wasn't the case. The sub-domain had 16,000+ issues. Why has Moz started to count sub-domains as part of the main domain, has Google started to do this aswell?

How to Handle Multiple Locations
We are working with a client who will have multiple locations––same company, same services [for the most part], different location. They want each location to get picked up locally in the search engines. What is the best way to handle the website and URLs? One overarching website with a page for each location?

What's the best practice for handling duplicate content of product descriptions with a drop-shipper?
We write our own product descriptions for merchandise we sell on our website. However, we also work with drop-shippers, and some of them simply take our content and post it on their site (same photos, exact ad copy, etc...). I'm concerned that we'll loose the value of our content because Google will consider it duplicated. We don't want the value of our content undermined... What's the best practice for avoiding any problems with Google? Thanks, Adam
