How do I Syndicating Content for SEO Benefit?
-
Right now, I am working on one E-Commerce website. I have found same content on that E-Commerce website from manufacturer website. You can visit following pages to know more about it.
http://www.vistastores.com/casablanca-sectional-sofa-with-ottoman-ci-1236-moc.html
http://www.abbyson.com/room/contemporary/casablanca-detail
http://www.furnitech.com/ft55cfa.html
I don't want to go with Robots.txt, Meta Robots NOINDEX & Canonical tag. Because, There are 5000+ products available on website with duplicate content.
So, I am thinking to add Source URL on each product page with Do follow attribute. Do you think? That will help me to save my website from duplicate content penalty?

Hi Matt,
Thank you very much for two valuable suggestions. I am agree with you. We have added product specification in form of paragraph.
Now, We are planning to compile set of content for each and every product page for good user experience. It may create some romance on product pages.
I will consider your URL length related input in next product import.
If you have any additional inputs or suggestions for me? If yes so It will fabulous for me. Because, I have visited your website and You have done great work over there.
This is biggest reason to love SEOmoz... Right platform to communicate more with E-Commerce marketing guys... just like you!!

That's not the site I was talking about specifically but it is a site that my team are working on.
Looking at that product on your page, the content is essentially is a list of features. My advice? Try and make it unique and interesting. It can be hard to do this without simply thickening the content with fill words though. Maybe try to be funny?
By the way, I'd try and make your URL a little shorter

Hi Matt,
I hope, You're talking about following website.
http://www.theworkplacedepot.co.uk/
I have checked categories and We are working on similar products.
http://www.theworkplacedepot.co.uk/lincoln-office-chair
We are selling same product on our store.
We have done lot of work on Office Chairs category & product page.
But, We are getting issue to capture maximum impressions and clicks on product page due to using content from manufacturer website.

Great. I'm pleased you are wanting to do it the right way. Many people come here for advice and simply reject the advice given because it costs too much money or takes too much effort.
Generally, creating decent unique descriptions for 5000 products will take lots of time and effort. If you do have a budget for this sort of thing then it might be worth trying oDesk or Elance or something similar. Just remember that if you follow this advice, you should also have someone editing and checking the descriptions that you are provided with.
If it makes you feel any better, I'm working on a site at the moment which needs unique descriptions for 30,000 products.

Hi Matt,
Honestly, You don't need to say sorry for it. I am really happy to read very straight answer.
If unique description is only solution so, I will happy to go with it. But, I want to double make sure before jump on it.
Because, It's big investment of time & money for us. I am quite excited to read few more answers on this question.
By the way.. Thanks for your answer...

If you want the honest answer then there is only one real way of making this work... Rewrite the descriptions. Make them unique.
If you really want the pages to do well then this is the solution.
Sorry to be the bearer of bad news!
Matt

There are SEO benefits to external links, but should they be nofollow?
I just read a great article on the SEO benefits of external links to relevant authoritative sites. But it didn't state if the benefits still existed if the external links were nofollows.
Intermediate & Advanced SEO | | Caro-O
The article concluded: “Outgoing relevant links to authoritative sites are considered in the algorithms and do have a positive impact on rankings.” I found this old article on the subject, but opinions on the nofollow issue were mixed:

Duplicate content with URLs
Hi all, Do you think that is possible to have duplicate content issues because we provide a unique image with 5 different URLs ? In the HTML code pages, just one URL is provide. It's enough for that Google don't see the other URLs or not ? Example, in this article : http://www.parismatch.com/People/Kim-Kardashian-sa-securite-n-a-pas-de-prix-1092112 The same image is available on: http://cdn-parismatch.ladmedia.fr/var/news/storage/images/paris-match/people/kim-kardashian-sa-securite-n-a-pas-de-prix-1092112/15629236-1-fre-FR/Kim-Kardashian-sa-securite-n-a-pas-de-prix.jpg http://resize-parismatch.ladmedia.fr/img/var/news/storage/images/paris-match/people/kim-kardashian-sa-securite-n-a-pas-de-prix-1092112/15629236-1-fre-FR/Kim-Kardashian-sa-securite-n-a-pas-de-prix.jpg http://resize1-parismatch.ladmedia.fr/img/var/news/storage/images/paris-match/people/kim-kardashian-sa-securite-n-a-pas-de-prix-1092112/15629236-1-fre-FR/Kim-Kardashian-sa-securite-n-a-pas-de-prix.jpg http://resize2-parismatch.ladmedia.fr/img/var/news/storage/images/paris-match/people/kim-kardashian-sa-securite-n-a-pas-de-prix-1092112/15629236-1-fre-FR/Kim-Kardashian-sa-securite-n-a-pas-de-prix.jpg http://resize3-parismatch.ladmedia.fr/img/var/news/storage/images/paris-match/people/kim-kardashian-sa-securite-n-a-pas-de-prix-1092112/15629236-1-fre-FR/Kim-Kardashian-sa-securite-n-a-pas-de-prix.jpg Thank you very much for your help. SEO Behind a paywall.
Good Morning! Does anybody have any experience with SEO behind a paywall. If we have a portion of a website that is going to be locked, will google still be able to access all of that regardless of paying? If not is there any way to circumvent that? Any thoughts are greatly appreciated! MOZel Tov!

Duplicate content for hotel websites - the usual nightmare? is there any solution other than producing unique content?
Hiya Mozzers I often work for hotels. A common scenario is the hotel / resort has worked with their Property Management System to distribute their booking availability around the web... to third party booking sites - with the inventory goes duplicate page descriptions sent to these "partner" websites. I was just checking duplication on a room description - 20 loads of duplicate descriptions for that page alone - there are 200 rooms - so I'm probably looking at 4,000 loads of duplicate content that need rewriting to prevent duplicate content penalties, which will cost a huge amount of money. Is there any other solution? Perhaps ask booking sites to block relevant pages from search engines?

SEO Strategy for Microsite
I am working on a project to build a microsite of sorts that will represent a joint program between two large organizations with established web presences and strong domains. Each of the organizations has dedicated sections on their sites speaking to the program, but the leadership has decided the joint program deserves it's own site with dedicated content. The two larger sites perform very well for SEO, and I don't necessarily want to jeopordize thir rankings by delivering content that competes directly with them. So I am doing some keyword research to find some opportunities that will alllow me to use the new site to target keywords not yet being captialized by the larger sites. My grand scheme is to have the three sites targeting the broadest array of keywords possible, thus maximizing exposure and avoiding competition. Here is the rub: the content between the three sites will be different but very similar, and there will be plenty of cross linking, especially from the existing sites to the new site, as we grow the brand of the joint program. I'm curious to here some expert opinions on what the puitfalls of the strategy are and what are some of the things I can do to avoid falling in the black hat category - I recognize that proliferating sites around a single topic and cross linking them is black hat. The organizations simply want to build a brand around a joint program and we are striggling to do that without a dedicated website.

Do interstitials hurt SEO?
If you go to www.homeportfolio.com and click on one of the links in the footer. you'll notice you are presented with an interstitial. Can you tell me if that hurts our SEO and if we lose any link juice or suffer in any other way as a result of this linking method? my main concern is whether having anchor text that says "bathroom ideas" that goes to an interstitial that doesn't mention bathroom ideas is non-relevant... even if it refreshes 12 seconds to a page that is.
