Wildcards in Backlinks
-
I had a quick question. Whenever I look at a report on Open Site Explorer for "golffacility.com" I am only receiving 15 results. I need to use wildcards such as ".golffacility.com/". Is there a way to do so? The end result would ideally be a list of domains linking to golffacility.com.
If you look at this report you'll see that the backlinks are up to nearly 300k, https://ahrefs.com/site-explorer/backlinks/subdomains/golffacility.com.
Thank you.

Are you looking for domains that link to the root domain golffacility.com? If so, be sure to filter for "pages on this root domain" in the linking domains report. Here's the link:
...which shows over 600 linking domains.
Or individual links here:
Now, OSE will only show you up to 25 links from each domain. We've found that beyond this number, the value of each new link you find doesn't add much value. (often these are caused by sitewide links)
By comparison, if you search ahrefs for links to just the homepage, they list 14 links, consistent with OSE:

Are you saying that OSE does not show detailed backlink information?
** Yes, OSE has a totally diffrent approach as far as it's index. As far as I know OSE is only covering the core of the net - and it dosen't really go "far into space" - borders of the web.
Is the capability to do wildcard searches developed?
** No - but this can be a good addon indeed.
-
Thank you for the response, but that really doesn't answer my question.
As this isn't my domain, I cannot use Google Webmaster tools. Are you saying that OSE does not show detailed backlink information? Is the capability to do wildcard searches developed?
-
ahref and Open Site Explorer have 2 very different type of indexes.
Open site Explorer has the "core" of the web in its index and you can get more insights and mor ein depth info. On the other hand ahref has a larger database but not that accurate and up to date as OSE.
I personally use Web master tools and OSE as a first option and only use ahref and majestic to drill into the profile of a website more deeply - if and when needed.
Cheers.

Spam and Irrelavent Backlinks
Hey! We have a site that is fairly well ranking in a niche of the medical profession. It has a good link profile with great .gov links etc. OSE doesn't show most of the links, however all the ones it does show are all good. We noticed an across the board drop in rankings recently, and checked on AHREFS. What we found, was hundreds of backlinks to a variety of pages on the site from a wide range of spam/porn/Russian/irrelevant sites. Even stranger is that some of the links have anchor text like "continue shopping" but they link to a page on our site about a type of limb fracture. Has anyone come across this before? How is this possible? Thanks

Open Site Explorer backlink results different that MajesticSEO... why?
When checking the number of external links linking to a site, Open Site Explorer and MajesticSEO give completely different results. In one case Open Site Explorer is saying the website has: "49 Total Links" and MajesticSEO is saying the website has: "6,143 External Backlinks (in the last 5 years)" and "497 External Backlinks (in the last 90 days)" Does anyone know why this is?

Number of backlinks throughout time
From what I understand one important aspect in link building is how those backlinks have been acquired throughout time. So if a website gets a large number of backlinks in a short amount of time, the value of those links are reduced in the eyes of search engines. Is there a tool in SEOMoz (that i can't find) that would show the change of backlinks for my campaigns in the last one year?

Ways to Find Potential Backlink Providers
We are doing a backlink campaign for a personal development training company that is a pretty good authority with lots of good long articles. So far I found competitors ranking for our keywords - about 10 of them - and analyzed their backlinks We found about 40 possible backlink providers. What's the next step to find more? I know 2 possibilities so far: do inurl commands in google to find related sites with resource sections - how do I do this? Analyze the backlinks of the sites that make up competitor's backlinks.] - how do I organize this huge task? What else is there?

Our recently searched Open Site backlink reports are identical to last months across multiple clients. Why is this happening?
When processing the backlink data of our clients for this month (searches done on 28th December), we're finding that the information gathered from Open Site explorer is identical to the data that was found on searches done at the end of November. It appears to have happened for the reports we use for every single client so it must be more than a coincidence. From our perspective, it's almost as if no data has been tracked since the last time we gathered backlink reports. Could you help us get to the bottom of this?
