Using Webmaster Tools to Redirect Domain to Specific Page on Another Domain

Hey Everyone, we redirected an entire domain to a specific URL on another domain (not the homepage). We used a 301 Redirect, but I'm also wondering if I should use the Google Webmaster Tools "Change of Address" section to redirect. There is no option to redirect the old domain to the specific URL on the new domain within the "Change of Address" section. Thoughts?

No Need to do it at all,

utilizing the 301 is the best option. having mix signals will take more time for google to adjust to the new destination and might have mix signals in the future.

Highly ranked pages to new domain?

Hi everyone! We are ranked #1 for about 30 product pages at www.oldsite.com/product1 and we are wanting to move about 30 of those pages to a new site www.newsite.com/product1 (new domain and hosting - which we own). What is the best way to do this? Client would like to 301 redirect the homepage to a category page

Hello MOZ Community!!! I would like your expert opinions on a scenario, please! My client is an ecommerce company, and currently has one of its category pages outranking its homepage for a few key phrases. The homepage, however, has a better conversion rate. So, the client is asking that we make the homepage the category URL, so http://www.theirsite.com/blue-clothes. The existing homepage URL - http://www.theirsite.com - would 301 REDIRECT to the category page - which would render the current version of the homepage. Therefore, there would be nothing, ZERO content, on the MAIN URL: http://www.theirsite.com Has anyone ever done this before? What are the pros and the cons of this practice? Removing Blogs and 301 redirect to blog home page?

Hi, I was at the MozCon conference in Seattle this Summer and heard great concepts about deleting a lot of pages on your site that are deemed excess. It got me thinking to remove all of our old blogs that were: Sales(ee) less than 400 words Flat out bad blogs When i begin removing these links, i know i will get a lot of 404 errors because of previous social links. So in your opinion, what would you do? Do i just 301 those blogs to my main /blog page? Thanks

Any downsides of (permanent)redirecting 404 pages to more generic pages(category page)

Hi, We have a site which is somewhat like e-bay, they have several categories and advertisements posted by customers/ client. These advertisements disappear over time and turn into 404 pages. We have the option to redirect the user to the corresponding category page, but we're afraid of any negative impact of this change. Are there any downsides, and is this really the best option we have? Thanks in advance!

Redirect one store to another...

Here's the situation: 2 online stores. Store A is doing really well, traffic, sales, and keyword ranking wise. Store B, not so much. Owner wants to redirect all links from store B to store A and then possibly re-brand store A and give it a different URL. This is a slow time, sales pick up in spring. I would like opinions on this from anyone who has done this or knows about it. Risks, benefits, best practices on going about it, etc... Thank you, Lisa

Aged domain and 301 redirect? (11 year old domain)

Hey everyone, I'm about to launch a new website for an accounting firm. They currently have a website, which has an 11 year old domain. They are doing very well locally for SEO, and i'm guessing it's because of the aged domain, as their website is very badly built, and contains almost no content. They would like to launch the new site with a simpler, easier to remember domain. If i launch the new site, point the aged domain using a 301 redirect, and do redirects for all of the old pages to the newer versions of them, is there a chance the company will lose their current SEO rankings? Adding another domain to my VPS, would it effect SEO?

I set up my business site on a VPS and its working great. The site is doing well ranking for my keywords. I have another domain name that I was going to host on the VPS also. The site will be in a completely new business and there will be no overlapping keywords at all. A separate business altogether. Can someone tell me if adding another site to the VPS I have cause any SEO issues as the last thing I want to do is negatively effect my main business site Thanks in advance
