Traffic Down - May Need Outside Help
-
Hi Moz Community -
Our website (www.motivators.com) experienced a small traffic drop in mid-March. This was followed by a steady decline in traffic through May, June and July. Please note that a site redesign went live on April 4th.
Starting in mid-July, we began implementing aggressive site improvements (mostly based upon site speed), but our traffic is still down.
Can anyone recommend a service or company that can look at our site and determine the root cause / more strategies for improvement?
Thanks for your suggestions!

If you look at the Moz On Page Report that I linked to above, it'll give you specific instructions on other fixes you can do to optimize your page. Follow those guidelines on all of your pages, and you should do well.

Thanks, Lisa. Your alt tag comments make sense. We're going to make these changes site-wide.

Thanks, Jesse. We're looking into getting this non-www 301 issue addressed.

Thanks! We've looked into these companies and will be contacting a few.

I noticed several things at a glance, primarily using moz's Google Chrome tool on this page: http://www.motivators.com/Promotional-BacktoSchool-Products-98.html
If your keyword phrase on this page is "back to school promotional products", You're on your way to being well-optimized for that phrase, but you'd want to add the phrase in your body copy, emphasizing it somewhere, and include the phrase in one or more of your image alt tags. However, that term is not searched very often using Google's AdWords Keyword Planner Tool. Continuing on... you could remove the "quick view" alt tags, as they are not doing anyone any good... Quick view of what? If a blind person (or a person with displaying images turned off) were trying to view (hear) the webpage, every link would say the same thing, therefore they won't know which to click on. The image alt tag is there for this purpose.
It also looks like you didn't put an alt tag on your product display images. Definitely a missed opportunity there. You used the product ID as the title, but no alt tag.
I'd be happy to help you optimize your site, but hopefully this will get you going.

start with redirecting your non-www to the www version. get a 301 in place asap. i looked at this, saw it, and stopped checking. this is the first thing to do but i'm sure there are plenty more...
edit: although you do have a canonical tag so that's good. still it will help to do as i suggest as canonical does not guide incoming links only keeps you from getting panda penalties and guides Google to index the proper version of the duplicated content.

Do I need Yoast SEO video for YouTube videos?
I have been following advice for improving the SEO of my YouTube videos, for instance by having the keyword early in the title and description. Do I then need a plugin like Yoast Video SEO for my website where the videos are embedded to increase the chance of showing the videos for that keyword?

Help recover lost traffic (70%) from robots.txt error.
Our site is a company information site with 15 million indexed pages (mostly company profiles). Recently we had an issue with a server that we replaced, and in the processes mistakenly copied the robots.txt block from the staging server to a live server. By the time we realized the error, we lost 2/3 of our indexed pages and a comparable amount of traffic. Apparently this error took place on 4/7/19, and was corrected two weeks later. We have submitted new sitemaps to Google and asked them to validate the fix approximately a week ago. Given the close to 10 million pages that need to be validated, so far we have not seen any meaningful change. Will we ever get this traffic back? How long will it take? Any assistance will be greatly appreciated. On another note, these indexed pages were never migrated to SSL for fear of losing traffic. If we have already lost the traffic and/or if it is going to take a long time to recover, should we migrate these pages to SSL? Thanks,

Are Pages that have High Traffic and High Bounce Rates helpful?
I work as a marketing director for a small law firm. I had some basic SEO experience prior to joining the firm but I'm still building my knowledge base. I'm working to take over where the previous web developer left off and improve the site. The previous firm had developed pages for the law firm featuring yearly car crash statistics, statistics for bike crashes, etc. These pages get a good amount of hits but people quickly jump off the pages, and most are not even located in a region where they could potentially become a client. I feel like they added the pages to show the client that there was an increase in search traffic. However, 100% of the traffic bounces quickly after viewing the statistics pages. Does a page that has a decent amount of hits, but doesn't lead to conversions and has a nearly 100% bounce rate worth keeping around? My thought is, I would like to remove these pages that do not actually attract potential clients and reduce the overall bounce rate of the site. I don't want to take actions to remove the page without throwing this question out to more experienced people.

Avoid Keyword Self-Cannibalization | Help needed
I just ran a grade report for one of my niche websites and I can't seem to fix the following issue: Avoid Keyword Self-Cannibalization
On-Page Optimization | | severtservice
Easy fix Cannibalizing link "Buikspieroefeningen voor thuis en een lager gewicht" and "Buikspieroefeningen voor thuis" Explanation It's a best practice in SEO to target each keyword with a single page on your site (sometimes two if you've already achieved high rankings and are seeking a second, indented listing). To prevent engines from potentially seeing a signal that this page is not the intended ranking target and creating additional competition for your page, we suggest staying away from linking internally to another page with the target keyword(s) as the exact anchor text. Note that using modified versions is sometimes fine (for example, if this page targeted the word 'elephants', using 'baby elephants' in anchor text would be just fine). Recommendation Unless there is intent to rank multiple pages for the target keyword, it may be wise to modify the anchor text of this link so it is not an exact match. -- Well, I've tried really everything (I believe) but this issue is not going away.
Could anyone help me out with this? My site = www.debuikspieroefeningenvoorthuis.nl Thanks!

I need quality backlinks. Do they need to be similar to company website?
Our website seems to be well optimized. However I need to find more quality backlinks. I am having a hard time with this. Do backlinks have to related to the company? The reason I ask is because I can receive some links, but they do not relate to our company. BUT sometimes we have customers come to our facility and we book them a local hotel room and send them to near by restaurants. Is it ok to have local restaurants and local hotels links on our website and have them link to ours, on a page for customer visits. OR any other tips on receiving quality backlinks?

Do we need to use the canonical tag on non-indexed pages?
Hi there I have been working in / learning SEO for just over a year, coming from a non dev background, so there are still plenty of the finer points on-page points I am working on. Slowly building up confidence and knowledge with the great SEOMoz as a reference! We are working on this site http://www.preciseuk.co.uk (we are still tweaking the tags and content by the way- not finished yet!) Because a lot of the information is within accordians, a page is generated for each tab of the accordian expanded, for example: http://www.preciseuk.co.uk/facilities-management.php is the main page but then you also have: http://www.preciseuk.co.uk/facilities-management.php?tab=0 http://www.preciseuk.co.uk/facilities-management.php?tab=1 http://www.preciseuk.co.uk/facilities-management.php?tab=2 http://www.preciseuk.co.uk/facilities-management.php?tab=3 http://www.preciseuk.co.uk/facilities-management.php?tab=4 http://www.preciseuk.co.uk/facilities-management.php?tab=5 All of which are in the same file. According to the crawl test, these pages are not indexed. Because it is all in one file, should we add the canonical tag to it, so that this is replicated in all the tab pages that are generated? eg. Thanks in advance for your help! Liz OneResult
