Content Marketing and Twitter
-
Hello,
I'd like to improve how I use twitter for pushing a piece of content. Here's what I am planning to do currently:
First, we created a useful piece of content for a niche where we'll be appealing to the humanitarian side of thing. Nothing like this piece of content is on the web. The subject is not mouthwateringly attractive to other websites, but it is good, very useful, authoritative and uses the information we have in our niche. For Twitter, we plan to pick a website carefully that could use our content and
1. of course follow that site on twitter
2. Retweet 2 or 3 relevant good tweets the site has put out. If the person I want to contact has a twitter account, retweet some of his too.
3. Tweet a general tweet about a good article or blog post the site has with a link to the site and the article.
4. Tweet at a specific person in the site's company (or to the general twitter account if there isn't anyone specific) asking if they need help with content if it is well written and useful, then later tweeting introducing our article. Email will also be used.
I'm really new to using twitter for content marketing, any help is appreciated. Facebook liking/sharing as well as blog comment posting along with adding to g plus circles will also be used.
Thanks.

Theres a few other things you should take into consideration with Twitter.
A retweet from someone from little to no followers is kinda useless. It also makes me wonder if they are a spam bot. It won't nessecarly generate any good will.
I have a couple of Twitter accounts. 1 business. I use the business account to provide product updates, downtime notifications etc
2. personal. My personal account is based around music and a personal blog/brand I have built over many years in a very small niche. Through this I have achieved a decent amount of followers that I interact with reguarly. I have also been able to convert a good portion of followers. My followers have also recommend my services to their followers knowing that I offer the service their contact is looking for. Even when they don't use my services. It makes them look like an authority/knowledgable person with contacts.
I saw a tweet that made sense. It was something like "facebook is for friends that you hate, twitter is for people you don't know but love". This is true. My twitter feed is not disimilar to an active forum.
My best advice is:
Create a personal account, build followers in your niche by interacting with them (even if at first they don't respond)
Be real. Sounds cliche but, twitter is about interaction, communicating and sharing thoughts with similar minded people... And you better believe they will all be similar minded. During recent elections here in Australia, it seemed everyone was giving their 2 cents about how Labour should win. If the election was based off my feed, they would have won. They didn't and we now have a new Prime Minister.
Be careful with the links you provide. Especially early on while people are getting to know you. If you over do it, an unfollow is only a click away.
In all honesty, if you are new to Twitter and want to promote your company, I would use their paid ads. Why ? Because you can define the audience you are trying to attract. At first I detested twitter ads, but since they';ve fine tuned it, I do often click a link or at least favourite it so I can come back and look at it later. In saying that, make sure your site is responsive. Damn, I hate clicking a twitter link to find it's not working on my browser.
Smartcompany.com.au were guilty of this and it annoyed the shit out of me as they have really interesting headers. i.e. I'd click through and would get page not found.
Don't tweet people/companies with a link to your site. If it's a new account and you do this reguarly you're looking at a ban. Users hate this. Trying to get followers by favouriting their tweets in the hope of a followback, is also a no no.
I think AJ Ghergich @seo has found a really good balance for Twitter. He posts a lot of great links to other people sites, many sites I haven't seen before and he interacts with his followers. @randfish is also Ok. Though he doesn't interact unless you're a seo celebrity or similar.
I guess the same rings true for twitter as it does for SEO. Look for authorities who are active and interesting.
Hope that helps

Social Media Causing Duplicate Content
Recently, I spent some time in the SEO MOZ Crawl Diagnostics, and found that I have 40 pages that are being listed as “duplicate content.” These are original blog posts, but I made the mistake of sharing on social media immediately after publishing each post. I recently found out that if you post on a blog and on social on the same day, Google indexes the social first, and then up to 2 weeks later indexes the actual blog post. When it does, it stamps the blog post as duplicate and the social media posting as the original. Any ideas on how I can rectify this? Any code I can put in each blog post to let Google know they’re the original? I’ve begun publicizing my blogs on social 14 days after I actually publish them to alleviate the issue going forward, but I’d like my 40 other blog posts to get the authority they deserve.

Twitter interactions
We would love for some feedback as we're facing an internal dilemma on how to utilize twitter for our business. We are launcing a new travel site that will connect travellers based on their activities and also serve as a booking platform. One part of our marketing team suggests we make two seperate twitter accounts; one 'formal' that follows a structured guideline in posting relevant material and one for the Social Media manager to reply to people as site official. The other part suggests we reply and interact using the 'formal' account; no second twitter account needed for interacting. What would you suggest?

Value in content from website being shared across social media?
If I write content (small career advice quotes) on my website and I distribute across Twitter and FB I assume my site will get the full credit (from an SEO perspective) since that is where the content was originally uploaded. However, will I still get SEO credit for being active on social media, or will Google view it as duplicate content and evaluate that I am not active on social media? thank you

Social media profiles with same description - Duplicate content or reinforcing business details?
Hi, I am currently doing a Social media review and find myself wondering whether having exactly the same copy - or part thereof, on a businesses' Facebook, LinkedIn, G+, Twitter, profile(s) is likely to be viewed by SE's as a good or bad thing? Is it duplicate content and to be avoided? Or would it be viewed as a case of the business trying to ensure a consistent profile and therefore reinforcing your business details?

Twitter retweets - best practices
So, a fairly prominent organization used our company in a case study on their website. They mentioned us in a tweet and linked to the case study on their site. I'd like to promote this to my own followers as well. Is it more appropriate to write a unique tweet mentioning the organization and linking to the case study, or should I just retweet their original tweet.

I'd like some thoughts on content I'm considering producing for my discount drug card business...
I'm fairly new to SEO, but I'm trying to learn. I have a discount prescription drug card business and while it's quite new (the website was created in January) I'm not very satisfied with the traffic I'm receiving...that's putting it mildly. I'm contemplating different methods I might be able to exercise in order for my website to show value....to my potential visitors and search engines. First, while I do have a blog I find it extremely difficult to offer well-written material on prescription drugs and what not....while it is my intention to offer a good product and service it's a subject that I don't have enough experience on to write intelligent posts. I'm just not in a position to hire a writer. Essentially I have two thoughts....one, trying to find a doctor, a pharmacist or a pharmacy school whereby I could professionally videotape a presenter talking about various prescription drugs, kind of like a glossary. Which prescriptions are used to treat various ailments, etc... The 2nd idea is a little disconnected to the business of prescription drugs, but along the lines of saving money and being financially sound. In this example I would tape 30 second pieces where a financial consultant might give different lessons about ways to save money or be financially prudent. For someone looking to save money on prescription drugs...this could be very useful information. My reasoning with both of these is providing original material that could make my site more authoritative and provide rich content. Videotaping these would be a good option for me because that's my primary business. I appreciate your patience and feedback. Any other ideas or input would be most welcome! Thank you.
