Part of Page with Highest Viewership
-
Just got my newlsetter from LinkedIn with a link to an interesting article about the part of a webpage that gets the most viewership.
Are there any page tools out there that will tell me the pixel measurements on a page as shown in the article?

another method that can hint at this stuff is using the visual view (IN PAGE ANALYTICS) of google analytics (granted link percentages will be calculated from all links to that destination from the page you are trying to analyze, but if you have only 1 link per destination, this will be rather accurate.)

I have not seen one that uses the pixel ruler seen in the article you are referencing. And to be honest, I don't know what having a ruler would help you with. For instance, one of the "markers" on the ruler in the article says, " Fold"; however, the fold is going to vary depending on the visitors monitor. I supposed you could use one of these tools in conjunction with GA to view your visitors "average" screen resolution and come up with a conclusion as to where the "fold" would be... or other things like that.
As far as turning a "skin" on or off, these are reporting tools, which allow you to change the opacity of the results you are looking at (at least with CrazyEgg). And you can get a variety of results, not just the scroll heatmap.
My advice would be to simply try out these tools since there are free trials/versions of them and see if they give you the results/data you are looking for.
Hope this helps.

I really like the pixel ruler displayed in the article.
Do any of these tools feature such a "skin" that you can turn on and off?

I've been using CrazyEgg for a couple of weeks now and have been getting some pretty valuable data about where people are scrolling to on page. Surprisingly, people tend to scroll down from the top slightly, which I wasn't expecting.
If you use them through Moz's perks, you get 90days free - pretty darn reasonable if you ask me!

Crazyegg measures how far people are scrolling down on your site (there website is down right now... which is odd). I have used them before and you get some really good data.
Clicktale is another one that can not only do scrolling heatmaps, but it can also do actually recording of how your visitors are interacting with your site. They have a free and paid version. I have not used them... yet... but am looking at implementing this over the next few months.
Hope this helps.

Very Old Pages Creeping Up - Advice
We are currently having very old pages dating back 5+ years ago appearing on moz all of a sudden, we don't necessarily get traffic from these links anymore and i doubt they still hold any weight. Currently they take you to a 404 page, would there be any worth in redirecting these links?

Product page as homepage
Hello, Is it ok that to use the homepage of website as a product page directly where you present all your products on your homepage or can it penalise you to do that ? and in that case, is it better to have a homepage that you don't rank and create a subpage for your product page. Thank you,

Exact match .org Ecommerce: Reason why internal page is ranking over home page
Hello, We have a new store where an internal category page (our biggest category) is moving up ahead of the home page. What could be the reason for this? It's an exact match .org. Over-optimization? Something else? It happened both when I didn't optimize the home page title tag and when I did for the main keyword, i.e. mainkeyword | mainkeyword.org, or just mainkeyword.org Home Page. Both didn't help with this. We have very few backlinks. Thanks

How does Googlebot evaluate performance/page speed on Isomorphic/Single Page Applications?
I'm curious how Google evaluates pagespeed for SPAs. Initial payloads are inherently large (resulting in 5+ second load times), but subsequent requests are lightning fast, as these requests are handled by JS fetching data from the backend. Does Google evaluate pages on a URL-by-URL basis, looking at the initial payload (and "slow"-ish load time) for each? Or do they load the initial JS+HTML and then continue to crawl from there? Another way of putting it: is Googlebot essentially "refreshing" for each page and therefore associating each URL with a higher load time? Or will pages that are crawled after the initial payload benefit from the speedier load time? Any insight (or speculation) would be much appreciated.

Page Authority
Hi We have a large number of pages, all sitting within various categories. I am struggling to rank a level 3 for example, or increase authority of this page. Apart from putting it in the main menu or trying to build quality links to it, are there any other methods I can try? We have so many pages I find it hard to workout what the best way to internal link these pages for authority. At the moment they're classified in their relevant categories, but these go from level 1 down to 4 - is this too many classification levels?

New pages not ranking
I published some new landing pages about a month a go which are much better quality than previous pages and on an optimised URL. The old pages never ranked and the new pages aren't ranking either although they are much better. The old pages 301 redirect to the new pages. Any quick ways I can at least get them ranking? Not expecting Page 1 overnight but to at least see the new pages on Page 5 would be great!

Rel canonical on every page, pointing to home page
I've just started working with a client and have been surprised to find that every page of their site (using Concrete5 CMS) has a rel=canonical pointing to their home page. I'm feeling really dumb, because this seems like a fatal flaw which would keep Google from ranking any page other than the home page... but when I look at Google Analytics, Content > Site Content > Landing Pages, using Secondary Dimension = Source, it seems that Google is delivering users to numerous pages on their site. Can anyone help me out?! Thanks very much!!

Removing a Page From Google index
We accidentally generated some pages on our site that ended up getting indexed by google. We have corrected the issue on the site and we 404 all of those pages. Should we manually delete the extra pages from Google's index or should we just let Google figure out that they are 404'd? What the best practice here?
