Need advice for new site's structure
-
Hi everyone,
I need to update the structure of my site www.chedonna.it
Basicly I've two main problems:
1. I've 61.000 index tag (more with no post)2. The category of my site are noindex
I thought to fix my problem making the category index and the tag noindex, but I'm not sure if this is the best solution because I've a great number of tag idexed by Google for a long time.
Mybe it is correct just to make the category index and linking it from the post and leave the tag index.
Could you please let me know what's your opinion?
Regards.

Hi,
In SEO sense, I don't think it matters whether it is tags or category as long as Google is able to crawl your content and you removed or noindex all your duplicate content/pages. By using SEO by Yoast, category and tags are not different. You can noindex/nofollow both and you can create custom SEO titles and descriptions for both.
However, for the purpose of restructuring your site and adding customized headers,
Hope this helps!

Hi Tommy, sorry for my english, I'll do my best to explain you why I would like to change the structure of my site.
I think that for SEO is better to have the category index and push it is better than tag. The main problem is that at the moment my site has 61.000 tag more of them with zero post in: don't you think that it means bad content for Google?
Also, don't you think that it means high bounce rate?
Thanks for your advice and have a nice day!

Hi,
What is the reason for fixing the structure? What is the problem you mentioned in the question? Is it because the tags are causing duplication or some other reason? If you are ranking well in SEO with the tags, you should just leave the structure as is.
However, if you really want to update the structure of your site, i would index category and noindex tags to avoid duplicate content issue.
Hope this helps

Hi Oleg, thanks for your answer.
So what's your final suggest?
Have a nice day.

If its ranking well, don't mess with it. If its not, I would flip the two (index categories, noindex tags). The main problem with indexing so many tag pages are the duplicate issues that arise. The same post blurbs are repeated on 5+ tag pages and the tag pages don't have any unique content.
If you index just the categories, you can write up a unique, keyword targeted description for each category. This would consolidate your pages and give more authority to each, as well as reduce the instances of duplicate content.

URL with query string being indexed over it's parent page?
I noticed earlier this week that this page - https://www.ihasco.co.uk/courses/detail/bomb-threats-and-suspicious-packages?channel=care was being indexed instead of this page - https://www.ihasco.co.uk/courses/detail/bomb-threats-and-suspicious-packages for its various keywords We have rel=canonical tags correctly set up and all internal links to these pages with query strings are nofollow, so why is this page being indexed? Any help would be appreciated 🙂

My old URL's are still indexing when I have redirected all of them, why is this happening?
I have built a new website and have redirected all my old URL's to their new ones but for some reason Google is still indexing the old URL's. Also, the page authority for all of my pages has dropped to 1 (apart from the homepage) but before they were between 12 to 15. Can anyone help me with this?

Do I need to do on-page SEO for my mobile site?
We have a desktop site, and we just built our first mobile site. Right now, the mobile site doesn't have any title tags, meta descriptions or anything like that, but do I need to even do that? If I have all of that on the desktop site, and the mobile site is just redirected from the desktop site, can't I just do it on the desktop site only? Is there anything to gain from doing it for both sites?

Google using descriptions from other websites instead of site's own meta description
In the last month or so, Google has started displaying a description under links to my home page in its search results that doesn't actually come from my site. I have a meta description tag in place and for a very limited set of keywords, that description is displayed, but for the majority of results, it's displaying a description that appears on Alexa.com and a handful of other sites that seem to have copied Alexa's listing, e.g. similarsites.com. The problem is, the description from these other sites isn't particularly descriptive and mentions a service that we no longer provide. So my questions are: Why is Google doing this? Surely that's broken behaviour. How do I fix it?

Should this site start again on a new domain
Hi We have not done SEO on this site they have used another company who looks like they outsourced and the links have been built by a third party all blog networks and this company have said they cannot get the links removed. Google flagged artificial links on this web site in February and in April it lost over 10000 visitors in a month and its just free falled ever since. The categories have been recreated and no redirects created due to the amount of backlinks from the blog sites to the original category pages but the site is not recovering its down to 1500 visitors a month and used to get 14000 a month. So should my customer ditch the domain and move this site to fresh domain? http://www.kids-beds-online.com Any answers would really be appreciated. thanks Tracy

Rel cannonical on all my URL's
Hi, sorry if this question has already been asked, but I can't seem to find the correct answer. In my crawling report for the domain: http://www.wellbo.de I get rel cannonical notices. I have redirected all pages of http://wellbo.de to http://www.wellbo.de with a 301 redirect. Where is my error? Why do I get these notices? I hope the image helps. Ep7Rw.jpg

What is the best way to change your sites folder structure?
Hi, Our site was originally created with a very flat folder structure - most of the pages are at the top level. Because we will adding more content I want to tidy up the structure first. I just wanted to check what the best way to go about this was. Is it best to: First configure all the new 301 redirects to point to the new pages, while leaving the actual links on our site pointing to the old pages. Then changing the links on the site after a few weeks. Configure the redirects and change the actual links on my website at the same time to point to the new locations. My thinking that if I go with option 1 route then I will give Google a chance to process all the redirects and change the locations in their index before I start pointing them to the new locations. But does it make any difference? What is the best wat to go about making this sort of change to minimize any loss in rankings, page rank etc? Thanks for the help.
