No Follow Link Advice for a Newbie

Hi Moz-ers! 2 part question I would love suggestions to:
I'm fairly new to the SEO world and working towards targets of 4 'follow' and 6 'no_follow' links a month, in house.
1. Apart from Wikipedia and bloggers that issue 'no_follow' links, what are good 'no_follow' slink generation ideas?
2. I've read lots about the benefit of no_follow and follow links and the ongoing debate, how does this target/KPI stack up against others out there? And is it a well structured target? I know its a big question, but I'd love some feedback.

Welcome to the SEO world
and as Devanur mentions in his response below, you need to change focus from looking for followed / nofollowed links to building great content which will automatically attract links coming through to you.Alternatively, though, you can still focus on the traditional linking methods by joining industry associations in your field and being listed on their websites as verified members which will get you links back to your site (follow / nofollow really depends on each site in this instance).

Honestly, I don't think you should be looking at links if they are 'follow' or 'nofollow'. Instead of building links desperately, you should be investing your quality time and effort in developing high quality content which would be a natural link magnet. The link profile should look natural and you should not be even thinking along those lines where you intend to build so many 'follow' links and so many 'nofollow' links.
Content based promotional methods like blog commenting and forum posting still work good provided, your comments or posts are worthy enough.

Value of Links? What is each link worth?
Morning Everyone, I just had this thought and wondered what everyone's opinions were in terms of link value in monetary terms. We'll assume for the purposes of this that the links come from contextually relevant sites and that the sites in question have got the Moz DA from being high quality and have a good quality incoming link profile. Its a bit of a theoretical question, but i guess imagine if the only way you could get links was to pay for them, what would they be worth to you. This is link value for SEO purposes, they will have in addition value from traffic from good sites, that no doubt varies wildly depending on topic. I assume everyone also agrees on: The first link from a domain is the most valuable High DA sites are worth more than low ones. So could anyone who has an opinion on the link value suggest a monetary value for links. Its really just using a monetary amount to see how best to target my time. Here is my example of what might be expected, but I am hoping people with more knowledge will perhaps correct it. Links to main landing category page or links directly to products
I have an ecommerce website and a manufacturer is providing links directly to my website from their products pages because they do not sell directly online. What is my best linking juice power for this situation:

Manufacturer A has a number of different brands: brand1, brand2, brand3 and a number of different products in each of it brands. They are currently linking their individual products to my individual products on my website. My website is setup like this:

Does the twitter link shortening service reduce link value (strength).
We have many SEO team members that use Twitters link shortening service, will this reduce the strength or value of the page to be indexed? I ask this cause the displayed URL isn't the actual page it is going to and would like to make appropriate changes to improve our company's SEO For example: http://t.co/zHu8vIcjPx is going to page http://4wheelonline.com/atv/QuadBoss.107503 Thank you for your assistance.

Old links
I am looking to remove some old directory links that now look spammy. Some years ago the site was redesigned. The links are all to the old pages url, which is 301 redirected to the new. If we remove the 301 and let the page 404, will that suffice in Googles eyes?

I publish a link roundup on my company blog on weekdays.

Too many external links vs linking root domains - good or bad?
Hi guys, After the latest Linkscape update, we noticed that our website have 424,671 external links with 4,395 linking root domains, so roughly 100 links/domain. Does Google consider this to be a negative thing or we do not need to worry about it. Many thanks. David
