What are the most common reasons for a website being slow to load
-
I've been advised that too many requests are being sent (presumably to the server?), how can I reduce these and were else should I look to increase speed?
-
Hi there,
There are many reasons a website may be slow, below are some of them:
- A huge spike in Additional Traffic.
- A Dynamic Site without caching.
- Extremely Large or non-optimized graphics.
- Extremely Large or non-optimized database.
- Large amount of calls to external websites (twitter, facebook, youtube, etc...)
- Connectivity issues
Hope it helps you

Your question is somewhat ambiguous. "Too many requests" could mean that your website's design is pulling in a lot of resources and this, particularly with Javascript, can cause load speed issues. If it is related to this you can look to merging some of your Javascript files, loading Javascript asynchronously where advisable, look at reducing CSS bloat (stripping unused rules, etc).
"Too many requests" could also mean that the server is suffering under load. If it is this latter meaning reducing any design-related resource loading issues may actually help somewhat but the site will still not reach reasonable speeds. To resolve this you'll need to look at reducing load on the server. This can be accomplished by making use of caches where appropriate.
Use the PageSpeed extension in Chrome or Firefox to diagnose some of the problems that might be affecting your site. If you suspect server load and if you have SSH access assuming it is a *nix machine try the "uptime" utility and have a look at the load averages.

Hi,
This is a fairly old article, but should have some good, relevant tips in nonetheless. http://moz.com/blog/15-tips-to-speed-up-your-website.
You can also see speed reports in analytics - It's under the 'behaviour' menu. I think it tells you how to fix specific elements that are taking a long time to load.
Hope this helps!

Seperating Different Parts Of The Website
Hi There, I have a client with two parts to his business both for different types of customer with different language and copy needed. At the moment they have one website and I am trying to figure out the most search engine friendly way to present these different types. So for example if a client came in looking for service A, he would see the home page for service A and if he came in looking for service B he would come across the home page for service B. I know I could have seperate service pages for each service he provides, but I think it would be off putting to come to a home page of a site and see completely unrelated services on one page. I hope I am explaining myself here. As far as I can see the options are:- subdomains for servicea.examplesite.com, serviceb.examplesite.com and a split page (see attachement) where you click which you are interested in (don't like this idea) seperate websites a home page which shows all the services (too confusing) Any advice would be most grateful. Best techniques for trying to rank a single page website?
I am new to SEO and am currently trying to market a single page website. Its proving to be hard. I have managed to get the site to page one for a few keywords and it is improving (upto page 2 for some desired keywords) but it seems to have stuck there for a few weeks now - with no movement. I am able to develop it if required. However I thought that I would just ask if there was anything that could give it a nudge without this? I have done on-site optimisation. As far as I'm aware that's about as good as it can be. So any advice?

What to Look for in a Magento Website Developer?
I am considering moving 1 of our sites to a Magento e-commerce platform. If I went down this route we would be keen to find someone who we can hire in-house. However I have never hired a web developer before. What should a developer with experience of launching and building Magento-based e-commerce websites have on their CV? What should I be looking for in terms of knowledge? Any help or advice welcome!

Website Drops Some Traffic after Redesign. What's Happening?
What it is NOT: No Link was broken. I have used Moz, Screaming Frog, Excel, etc - there are not broken links. We have not added spammy links. We kept the same amount of links and content on the homepage - with an exception of 1 or 2. All the pages remained canonical. Our blog uses rel=prev rel=next, and each page is canonicalized to itself. We do not index duplicated content. Our tags are content="noindex, follow" We are using the Genesis Framework (we were not before.) Load time is quicker - we now have a dedicated server. Webmaster tools has not reported any crawl report problems. What we did that should have improved our rankings and traffic: Implemented schema.org Responsive design Our bounce rate is down - Average visit length is up. Any ideas?

Temporary Redirect
Title Element Too Long (> 70 Characters)
Duplicate Page Title
etc... First of all I know these have negative effect on SEO. Now to fix towards those issues it involve lots of works and times. At the same time most of our important keywords/url rank position have not changed over the last 12 months. Does that mean the above has only limited negative effect? I just want to know is it worthy to invest the man/hour/money to clean those issues. As it involves decent development time. Is it common to have some of error/warning in most website that rank well? (e.g. I 've seem may big website have duplicate title/meta-desc on their currency variant page)0
