New Domain, Subdomain or Subfolder
-
Hi All,
I am working with a bank that would like to rank as many parts of the company site as possible for the company name. This includes the home page, a page on careers and a page on company reviews.
The question is, it is better to structure the careers and reviews content on a subfolder, subdomain or new domain.
Using subfolders to retain equity of the root domain site.americanbank.comamernicanbank.com/careersamericanbank.com/reviews
or (use subdomains - you lose some of the main domain equity and it is counter to the Moz research)
americanbank.comcareers.americanbank.comreviews.americanbank.com
or set up new domains to overcome Google bias not to rank the same root domain in the top 7 to 10 results multiple times when displaying results for a company name.

Thanks for your perspective.

Use a subfolder URL's like http://americanbank.com/
Only purchase new domains to protect company's name do not do it to rank and pressure during geo-targeting ( like you, for instance, you may in some cases THIS IS NOT ONE that I know of need a Russian IP and TLD to rank in Russia) So if you do not need to rank outside the United States just by the .net .org .com 's)
Using a subfolder will increase the domain and page authority as opposed to using the some domain that will be treated somewhat like a new domain by Google. There are advantages and disadvantages to each however if you want to rank you want to use subfolders primarily if you want to separate your site into different branches, and maybe some of them are for landing pages and some are private for content that is sensitive in nature want to use a subdomain.
An example of how much more power you can get out of the site by using a subfolder versus subdomain John Doherty an extraordinary SEO did this to hot pads here's a large photo below

I am sure you can find similar cases using this

should not redrect me to americanbank.com/business (unless for very good reason)
It appears you may be keyword stuffing your URLs. Maybe not intentionally I am not blaming you of anything but be careful Of the word business, it's not needed that many times.
You have a big redirect problem you should not use 302 redirects to the homepage (try it using this https://varvy.com/tools/redirects/ ) you have a very slow page load time as well unfortunately https://varvy.com/pagespeed/

Do the referring domains matter a lot in back-links? Google's stand?
Hi, It's a known fact about quality of back-links than quantity. Still domains are heavily different from links. Multiple domains are huge comparing to multiple links. Taking an average, how much does 'number of referring domains" boost website authority? I am not speaking about low quality domains, just number of domains including which are irrelevant to the topic or industry. Thanks

301 from one domain to another. Possible?
Hi all, I'm looking to re-direct one domain to another so that the content can be edited more easily under one CMS. Is this possible or will search engines penalise you for such a move? Not overly worried about losing link juice by implementing a 301 because the website we're hoping to re-direct from is a new page. Cheers

How much does domain age play a part today?
My specific reason for asking this is due to the need to consolidate two of my client's websites into one main umbrella. The two websites now are duplicating content between each other. They are essentially the same business with two locations. The goal is to have one website to build authority on, reduce management/maintenance time and eliminate the duplicate content issues. In doing so, we will need to use a completely different domain name for branding reasons. I'm concerned that this may hurt us due to it being a brand new domain name. With the current websites, one domain is 8 years old and the other 2 years old.

How much does a keyword focused domain matter today?
Is it still better to choose a keyword focused domain lets say over a branded domain in today's world? How much of a part does that have in the grand scheme of things?

Effect of new Google SSL policy on our Analytics - AACK!
So I went to look at our keyword reports in GA today and our most popular keyword was "(not provided)". It now accounts for 10% of our referred visits. Unfortunately, it also has a 125% avg order value compared to the rest of our site. This is a really annoying policy that Google has implemented and will clearly have an effect on our ability to effectively market our site.

Is a slash just as good as buying a country specific domain? .com/de vs .de
I guess this question comes in a few parts: 1. Would Google read a 2-letter country code that is after the domain name (after the slash) and recognize it as a location (targeting that country)? Or does is just read it as it would a word. eg. www.marketing.com/de for a microsite for the Germans www.marketing.com/fr for a microsite for the French Or would it read the de and fr as words (not locations) in the url. In which case, would it have worse SEO (as people would tend to search "marketing france" not "marketing fr")? 2. Which is better for SEO and rankings? Separate country specific domains: www.marketing.de and www.marketing.fr OR the use of subfolders in the url: www.marketing.com/de and www.marketing.com/fr

When did the New Google Algorithm Come into Force in the UK
On March 3rd, the hits on my UK site crashed to 40% of the previous number. I am guessing it may be down to the google algorithm change:- http://wisestartupblog.com/seo/google-algorithm-change-february-2011-losers-winners/5081 However, I am aware this happened on 25th Feb in the US. Do you know when it happened in the UK. Could it have suddenly started affecting me on March 3?
